Emergent epithelial elasticity governed by interfacial surface mechanics and substrate interaction
Urška Andrenšek, Matej Krajnc, 2026

Opis: During the life of animals, epithelial tissues undergo extensive deformations–first to form organs during embryogensis and later to preserve integrity and function in adulthood. To what extent these deformations resemble that of non-living elastic materials is not well understood. We derive an elasticity theory of epithelia, supported by a thin layer of extracellular material and the stroma, in which the mechanics of individual cells are dominated by differential interfacial tensions stemming from cell cortical tension and adhesion. Upon coarse-graining a discrete cell-level mechanics model, we obtain a harmonic deformation energy and derive the critical conditions for the elastic instability, where an initially flat tissue either buckles out of plane or forms wrinkles. Due to the distinct origin of elasticity, the scaling of the critical buckling load and the wrinkling wavelength with layer’s thickness is fundamentally different than in solid plates. The theory also naturally describes reversal of the groove-to-crest thickness-modulation phase–a recently observed epithelial shape feature which cannot be explained by the classical elasticity theory. Our work provides a guideline for understanding the relative role of cell surface tensions and the interaction of tissues with substrates during epithelial morphogenesis.

The Latent Implications of Husserl's The idea of Phenomenology
Irakli Batiashvili, 2025

Opis: The paper analyzes what new perspectives Edmund Husserl’s famous work The Idea of Phenomenology discloses for philosophical thought. I attempt to explain that the phenomenological epoché is not only a theoretical operation; epoché is, first of all, an existential act of a cardinal character; it denotes a crucial change, which concerns me, in particular, as the person who enters the unique space of phenomenological thinking. I accentuate Husserl’s reasoning regarding the so-called issue of obviousness (evidence) that is of key importance in phenomenology. Obviousness is not my subjective emotional attitude towards something; it is the self-givenness of the object, the direct grasp of the object in pure seeing. The interpretation shows that the method of phenomenological reduction excludes the main paradigm of our thinking: the subject–object split. Phenomenology deals neither with the consciousness of the subject nor with the factual objective reality, nor with their interrelationship, but with the field of pure self-givens. Within this field the self-constitution of the so-called external reality and of essential universals happens, as well as the self-manifestation of my subject or person. However, this field is within a certain totality, which limits it as a horizon: the happening (the event)—das Ereignis—of worldliness.

“Molt greignour senefiance"
Alenka Koželj, 2022

Opis: In the 13th-century French romance The Quest of the Holy Grail various interpreters appear, who—through Christian hermeneutics—explain to the knights of the quest their dreams, visions, prophecies, etc. The present article discusses the question of the source of authority of the interpreters, and analyzes in the text itself the foundations of such an authority. One of the most important starting points is the presupposition that the procedures of biblical exegesis influenced the romance and the image of the interpreter.

Narcis brez narcizma

Vidi tujca.

Stomach cancer elective surgery morbidity and mortality at 90-Day (Hold Study)
Claudia Neves-Marques, Mohamed Abulazayem, Geoffrey Yuet Mun Wong, Ricardo David Maldonado, Yirupaiahgari Viswanath, Jan Grosek, Jurij Aleš Košir, 2026

Opis: Background: Data on multinational 90-day mortality and morbidity rates after surgery for gastric cancer is limited in the literature. This study aimed to understand the 90-day mortality and morbidity outcomes among patients undergoing elective gastric cancer surgery, as in the GASTRODATA Registry, and to identify associated risk factors. Methods: We conducted an international prospective study on patients aged ≥ 18 years undergoing elective surgery for gastric cancer with curative intent from January 4 to September 30, 2022. Known metastatic disease, concurrent secondary cancers, gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) and Siewert type I/II oesophagogastric junction malignancies were excluded. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to identify variables associated with the 90-day outcome. Results: 380 collaborators from 47 countries submitted data on 1538 patients. Median age was 65 years (IQR: 19–94), and 58.5% were males. 90-day morbidity and mortality rates were 38.2% (n = 587) and 2.9% (n = 45), respectively. Pre-operative higher Charlson Comorbidity Index, higher ASA score, pre-operative weight loss > 10%, positive specimen margin, and post-operative pathological IV staging (p value < 0.05) were significantly associated with clinically relevant complications and mortality. Conclusion: Elective gastric cancer surgery has a 90-day morbidity of 38.2% and a 90-day mortality of 2.9% globally. This study provided the most comprehensive international 90-day prospective data to date regarding gastric cancer surgery. Several factors associated with higher morbidity were identified, highlighting the importance of a unified language on surgical morbidity, prehabilitation, and ongoing audits to enhance patient outcomes.
