| Povzetek: | This article is an account of how elemental listening to the rhythms and silences of the specific processes of salt-working allows for the generation of forms and contents of knowing that were previously mainly assumed and transmitted as obvious. In this essay, situated within the field of posthumanities, the author attempts to connect a variety of research fields through a common grounded experience—elemental listening. First, the text presents its wider context, that is, the broad field of environmental (post)humanities, stressing the crucial role of affirmative ethics within its framework. The author then moves to the theoretical background of listening and its ethics, which is subsequently connected to conceptualizations of rhythms and silences beyond the usually assumed dichotomies. Only at this point is the research field introduced, namely the old heritage of salt-working, an intricate process employed in the saltworks of the North Adriatic, in this case the Sečovlje saltworks in Slovenia. As a final step, the author attempts to connect all these research fields and themes into an experiential insight into the possibilities that listening opens up for generating new ways of knowing as a posthuman path that encourages affirmative ethics and enables connections with the more-than-human. |
