2. The recorded species belong to three phyla: Mollusca (3 species), Arthropoda (3 species), and Chordata (9 species). Among mollusks, Martadoris mediterranea is reported for the first time in the Aegean Sea at two different locations, while Opisthoteuthis calypso and Octopoteuthis sicula are newly recorded in the western Mediterranean. Regarding arthropods, Ocypode cursor is reported from the Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily, Pachygrapsus transversus is recorded for the first time in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and Cancer pagurus in the Sea of Marmara. Among chordates, Lobotes surinamensis and Zu cristatus are newly recorded in the Alboran Sea, while Callionymus fasciatus and Sym-phodus doderleini are reported from Slovenian coastal waters. Tripterygion delaisi and Gymnothorax unicolor are documented for the first time in the waters of the Sea of Marmara and Crete, respectively. Additionally, new records of rarely reported fish species include Arctozenus risso, Chromogobius zebratus, and Epinephelus aeneus in Turkish, Spanish, and Italian waters, respectively. These new records were found in seven (7) different ecoregions as follows: Alboran Sea: new record of the rare football octopus Ocythoe tuberculata in the harbour of Algeciras (Spain); Western Mediterranean Sea: first record of the isopod Arcturinella deltensis in the Ligurian Sea, and the third in the whole Mediterranean Sea; third Mediterranean site for the Muricidae Coralliophila ahuiri along the Italian coasts (Alghero); first and westernmost record of the goby Corcyrogobius liechtensteini from the Iberian Peninsula; new record of the sea slug Glaucus atlanticus from the coast of the Iberian Peninsula; first and easternmost record of Holothuria (Vaneyothuria) lentiginosa lentiginosa along the Italian coasts; Tunisian Plateau/Gulf of Sidra: seventh record of the oceanic squid Thysanoteuthis rhombus in Tunisia, and first for the Gulf of Gabes. 6. Unpublished Mediterranean and Black Sea records of marine alien, cryptogenic, and neonative speciesMichail Ragkousis, Argyro Zenetos, Jamila Ben Souissi, Razy Hoffman, Raouia Ghanem, Ana Fortič, Domen Trkov, Lovrenc Lipej, Borut Mavrič, Martina Orlando-Bonaca, Leon Lojze Zamuda, 2023, drugi znanstveni članki Povzetek: To enrich spatio-temporal information on the distribution of alien, cryptogenic, and neonative species in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, a collective effort by 173 marine scientists was made to provide unpublished records and make them open access to the scientific community. Through this effort, we collected and harmonized a dataset of 12,649 records. It includes 247 taxa, of which 217 are Animalia, 25 Plantae and 5 Chromista, from 23 countries surrounding the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Chordata was the most abundant taxonomic group, followed by Arthropoda, Mollusca, and Annelida. In terms of species records, Siganus luridus, Siganus rivulatus, Saurida lessepsianus, Pterois miles, Upeneus moluccensis, Charybdis (Archias) longicollis, and Caulerpa cylindracea were the most numerous. The temporal distribution of the records ranges from 1973 to 2022, with 44% of the records in 2020–2021. Lethrinus borbonicus is reported for the first time in the Mediterranean Sea, while Pomatoschistus quagga, Caulerpa cylindracea, Grateloupia turuturu, and Misophria pallida are first records for the Black Sea; Kapraunia schneideri is recorded for the second time in the Mediterranean and for the first time in Israel; Prionospio depauperata and Pseudonereis anomala are reported for the first time from the Sea of Marmara. Many first country records are also included, namely: Amathia verticillata (Montenegro), Ampithoe valida (Italy), Antithamnion amphigeneum (Greece), Clavelina oblonga (Tunisia and Slovenia), Dendostrea cf. folium (Syria), Epinephelus fasciatus (Tunisia), Ganonema farinosum (Montenegro), Macrorhynchia philippina (Tunisia), Marenzelleria neglecta (Romania), Paratapes textilis (Tunisia), and Botrylloides diegensis (Tunisia). 7. Improvement of the ecological status of the Cymodocea nodosa meadow near the Port of KoperMartina Orlando-Bonaca, Erik Lipej, Romina Bonaca, Leon Lojze Zamuda, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Seagrass beds are more or less the marine counterpart of tropical rainforests, and their health is related to different anthropogenic stressors, including navigation routes and port activities. In the Mediterranean Sea, Cymodocea nodosa is considered an effective indicator of environmental change, due to its universal distribution, sensitivity to various natural and anthropogenic pressures, and the measurability of the species’ responses to impacts. The aim of this study is to present the changes in the assessment of the ecological status of the C. nodosa meadow near the port of Koper, which was evaluated as Bad in 2018. The results show a significant improvement in the ecological status of the meadow, which can be attributed to a reduction in anthropogenic stressors. Keep it simple : improving the ex situ culture of Cystoseira s.l. to restore macroalgal forestsAna Lokovšek, Valentina Pitacco, Domen Trkov, Leon Lojze Zamuda, Annalisa Falace, Martina Orlando-Bonaca, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Brown algae from genus Cystoseira s.l. form dense underwater forests that represent the most productive areas in the Mediterranean Sea. Due to the combined effects of global and local stressors such as climate change, urbanization, and herbivore outbreaks, there has been a severe decline in brown algal forests in the Mediterranean Sea. Natural recovery of depleted sites is unlikely due to the low dispersal capacity of these species, and efficient techniques to restore such habitats are needed. In this context, the aims of our study were (1) to improve and simplify the current ex situ laboratory protocol for the cultivation of Gongolaria barbata by testing the feasibility of some cost-effective and time-efficient techniques on two donor sites of G. barbata and (2) to evaluate the survival and growth of young thalli during the laboratory phase and during the most critical five months after out-planting. Specifically, the following ex situ cultivation methods were tested: (A) cultivation on clay tiles in mesocosms with culture water prepared by three different procedures (a) filtered seawater with a 0.22 μm filter membrane, (b) filtered seawater with a 0.7 μm filter membrane (GF), and (c) UV-sterilized water, and (B) cultivation on clay tiles in open laboratory systems. After two weeks, all thalli were fixed to plastic lantern net baskets suspended at a depth of 2 m in the coastal sea (hybrid method), and the algal success was monitored in relation to the different donor sites and cultivation protocol. The satisfactory results of this study indicate that UV-sterilized water is suitable for the cultivation of G. barbata in mesocosm, which significantly reduces the cost of the laboratory phase. This opens the possibility of numerous and frequent algal cultures during the reproductive period of the species. Additionally, if the young thalli remain in the lantern net baskets for an extended period of several months, they can grow significantly in the marine environment without being exposed to pressure from herbivorous fish.
