Enostavno iskanje lahko zajema niz več besed iz naslova, povzetka, ključnih besed, celotnega besedila in avtorja, zaenkrat pa ne omogoča uporabe operatorjev iskanja. Napredno iskanje omogoča omejevanje števila rezultatov iskanja z vnosom iskalnih pojmov različnih kategorij v iskalna okna in uporabo logičnih operatorjev (IN, ALI ter IN NE). V rezultatih iskanja se izpišejo krajši zapisi podatkov o gradivu, ki vsebujejo različne povezave, ki omogočajo vpogled v podroben opis gradiva (povezava iz naslova) ali sprožijo novo iskanje (po avtorjih ali ključnih besedah).

Description, identification, and growth of Tuber borchii Vittad. mycorrhized Pinus sylvestris L. seedlings on different lime contents

Povzetek: Tuber borchii forms ectomycorrhiza with oaks, hazel, and pines, including Pinus sylvestris. However, its ectomycorrhiza morphotype with P. sylvestris was not comprehensively described so far, and molecular analyses are missing despite a high danger of misidentification of T. borchii ectomycorrhiza with other closely related and less valuable truffle species. We described for the first time the morphology and anatomy of T. borchii-P. sylvestris ectomycorrhiza using differential interference contrast technique and semi-thin sections in combination with molecular confirmation of identity. Color of ectomycorrhiza is reddish to dark brown, and morphotypes are unevenly but densely covered by warts-bearing pin-like cystidia. All layers of the hyphal mantle are pseudoparenchymatous with outer mantle layer formed of epidermoid cells. T. borchii ectomycorrhiza was identified by a molecular comparison with fruitbodies used for inoculation and its respective ectomycorrhizae. T. borchii has a wide ecological amplitude. To get a better insight in mycorrhization requirements, we investigated growth of P. sylvestris and its ectomycorrhiza infection rate with T. borchii in substrate with different lime content. The mycorrhization of P. sylvestris with T. borchii in the mycorrhization substrate and cultivation in greenhouse conditions was successful, with colonization of P. sylvestris varying between 36.5 and 48.1%. There was no significant correlation of mycorrhization to applied lime contents, and consequently to pH in substrate, while the increased levels of lime improved growth of the P. sylvestris seedlings.

Monitoring of species’ genetic diversity in Europe varies greatly and overlooks potential climate change impacts

Povzetek: Genetic monitoring of populations currently attracts interest in the context of the Convention on Biological Diversity but needs long-term planning and investments. However, genetic diversity has been largely neglected in biodiversity monitoring, and when addressed, it is treated separately, detached from other conservation issues, such as habitat alteration due to climate change. We report an accounting of efforts to monitor population genetic diversity in Europe (genetic monitoring effort, GME), the evaluation of which can help guide future capacity building and collaboration towards areas most in need of expanded monitoring. Overlaying GME with areas where the ranges of selected species of conservation interest approach current and future climate niche limits helps identify whether GME coincides with anticipated climate change effects on biodiversity. Our analysis suggests that country area, financial resources and conservation policy influence GME, high values of which only partially match species’ joint patterns of limits to suitable climatic conditions. Populations at trailing climatic niche margins probably hold genetic diversity that is important for adaptation to changing climate. Our results illuminate the need in Europe for expanded investment in genetic monitoring across climate gradients occupied by focal species, a need arguably greatest in southeastern European countries. This need could be met in part by expanding the European Union’s Birds and Habitats Directives to fully address the conservation and monitoring of genetic diversity.

Prognostic relevance of urokinase plasminogen activator and its inhibitors in patients with breast cancer

Povzetek: Urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) and its inhibitors, PAI-1 and PAI-2, play an important role in iritercellular tissue degradation, thus promoting tumor cell invasion into the adjoining structures and metastasizing. Our studywas aimed to assess a possible prognostic value of uPA, PAI-1 and PAI-2 in a retrospective series of 87 patients with breast cancer stage I-III, whosecytosols were stored in the archives of the, Institute of Oncology in Ljubljana. The median follow-up was 35 months. The prognostic value of the established prognostic factors and uPA, PAI-1 and PAI-2 were evaluated by means of univariate statistical analysis and partial multivariate models. The obtained uPA values were very low and did not correlate with the disease free survival, whereas PAI-1 and PAI-2 significantly influenced the time to the first recurrence. Patients with PAI-1 values above 5 ng/mg proteins had statistically significantly worse disease free survival than the patients withlower PAI-1 values (58% vs. 85%). In the case of PAI-2, the situation wasjust the opposite: the patients with PAI-2 values exceeding 6.4 ng/mg proteins had statistically significantly better 3-year disease free survival than the patients with lower values (90% vs. 60%). Both, PAI-1 and PAl-2 retained their independent prognostic value, irrespective of the addition of the established prognostic factors to partial multivariate models, and only with locally advanced disease the prognostic value of PAI-1 was greater than that of PAI-2.

A correlation of NK cytolitic test and BLT esterase test in determining activity of NK cells, stimulated by tumor target cells

Povzetek: We examined the granule exocytosis in natural killer (NK) cells by measuring N-benzyloxycarboxy-L-lysine esterase activity. As a source of NK cells we usedbuffy-coat isolated NK cells or peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL). The exocytosis was triggered by incubating cells with ionomycin/PMA or by NK cell susceptible tumour target cells K562. When we stimulated purified NK cells with tumour target cells, a close correlation (Corr=0.84) of cytolitic NK testresults and BLT test results was obtained. We may conclude that BLT test can provide a valuable tool to discriminate further NK cell deficiency in patients with low cytolitic NK test results.

Predictive assays of tumor response to chemo and radiotherapy

Pregled je osredotočen na tiste teste, pri katerih je treba celice gojiti v pogojih in vitro. Poleg tega članek obravnava tudi korelacijo med napovednimi testi in izidom zdravljenja različnih vrst raka ter poškodbami normalnih tkiv.

Use of steel slag for the synthesis of belite-sulfoaluminate clinker

Povzetek: Belite-sulfoaluminate (BCSA) cements are low-carbon mineral binders, which require low energy consumption and allow the incorporation of various secondary raw materials in the clinker raw meal. In this study two types of unprocessed steel slags, coming from stainless steel production, were incorporated in the BCSA clinkers. The clinker phase composition, clinker reactivity, and the compressive strength of the cement were studied to evaluate the possible use of the slag in BCSA clinkers. The cement clinkers were synthesized by using natural raw materials, white titanogypsum, mill scale, as well as two different steel slags: (i) EAF S slag, which is a by-product of melting the recycled steel scrap in an electric arc furnace, and (ii) la dle slag as a by-product of the processes of secondary metallurgy, in various quantities. Raw mixtures with two different targeted phase compositions varying in belite, calcium sulfoaluminate and ferrite phases were sintered at 1250 °C. Clinker phases were determined by Rietveld quantitative phase analysis, while their distribution, morphology and incorporation of foreign ions in the phases were studied by SEM/EDS analysis. The clinker reactivity was determined by isothermal calorimetry. BCSA cements were prepared by adding titanogypsum. The compressive strength of the cement pastes was determined after 7 days of hydration. The presence of a predicted major clinker phases was confirmed by Rietveld analysis, however periclase was also detected. Microscopy revealed subhedral grains of belite and euhedral grains of calcium sulfoaluminate phases, while ferrite occurred as an interstitial phase. The results showed differences in the microstructure and reactivity of the clinker and cement, which can be attributed to varying amounts of ettringite due to different slag types

Appropriate sound insulation of facades as a measure to ensure acceptable acoustic comfort in residential buildings

Povzetek: Wherever possible, the environment with residential buildings should be protected from the effects of noise sources by environmental noise reduction measures. If such measures cannot reduce the noise level in the environment to an acceptable level, acceptable acoustic comfort in the residential buildings shall be ensured by adequate sound insulation of the facades, which is the main topic of this paper. The paper outlines some of the criteria for providing good acoustic comfort in the residential buildings, on the basis of which the conditions and necessary measures for providing sufficient sound insulation of the facade elements are discussed. Since, in addition to the noise from the environment, the acoustic comfort in apartments is also affected by the noise from adjacent apartments in the building, the link between the sound insulation performance of facades and audibility of the speech noise form adjacent apartments is also discussed.

Extending BIM for air quality monitoring

Povzetek: As we spend more than 90% of our time inside buildings, indoor environmental quality is a major concern for healthy living. Recent studies show that almost 80% of people in European countries and the United States suffer from SBS (Sick Building Syndrome), which affects physical health, productivity and psychological well-being. In this context, environmental quality monitoring provides stakeholders with crucial information about indoor living conditions, thus facilitating building management along its lifecycle, from design, construction and commissioning to usage, maintenance and end-of-life. However, currently available modelling tools for building management remain limited to static models and lack integration capacities to efficiently exploit environmental quality monitoring data. In order to overcome these limitations, we designed and implemented a generic software architecture that relies on accessible Building Information Model (BIM) attributes to add a dynamic layer that integrates environmental quality data coming from deployed sensors. Merging sensor data with BIM allows creation of a digital twin for the monitored building where live information about environmental quality enables evaluation through numerical simulation. Our solution allows accessing and displaying live sensor data, thus providing advanced functionality to the end-user and other systems in the building. In order to preserve genericity and separation of concerns, our solution stores sensor data in a separate database available through an application programming interface (API), which decouples BIM models from sensor data. Our proof-of-concept experiments were conducted with a cultural heritage building located in Bled, Slovenia. We demonstrated that it is possible to display live information regarding environmental quality (temperature, relative humidity, CO2, particle matter, light) using Revit as an example, thus enabling end-users to follow the conditions of their living environment and take appropriate measures to improve its quality

Measurement of the chloride resistance of environmentally friendly and durable concrete

Povzetek: The increasing demand for concrete and thereby Portland cement, creates the need for novel low-clinker Portland composite cements. Concretes prepared with such novel composite cements need to show similar or even improved durability compared to concrete prepared with commonly used Portland composite cements. This study represents a part of the EnDurCrete project that focuses on the durability of concrete produced with novel low-clinker cements, containing high-value industrial by-products. More specifically, we investigated the chloride ingress resistance of such concrete. Concrete cylinders were submitted to chloride ingress by bulk diffusion. The chloride ingress resistance was investigated on concrete samples by %XRF scanning and chloride titration. In addition, the chloride binding capacity of these novel binders was investigated on paste samples by determining chloride binding isotherms for both binders. In the next step of the project, these experimental results will be matched with an advanced model, which is being developed within the project. By combining modelling with experimental verification, we aim to reach a better understanding of the fundamental chloride ingress mechanisms acting on novel types of concrete. The overall goal of the work is to produce a concrete with lower cost, lower environmental footprint and with verified similar or improved durability.

Molecular alterations induced in drug-resistant cells

Povzetek: The major obstacle to the ultimate success in cancer therapy is the ability oftumor cells to develop resistance to anticancer drugs. Several molecular mechanisms have been suggested to be involved in drugresistance: a) decrease in the intracellular drug accumulation (increased activity of membrane transporters such as P-glycoprotein or multidrug-resistance-associated protein), b) changes in intracellular detoxification system (increased concentrations of glutathione or metallothioneins, or increased activity of related enzymed), c) alteration in nuclear enzymes (enhanced DNA repair and/orbetter tolerance of DNA damage, decreased acitivty of topoisomerases), d) altered expression of oncogenes (inducing increased level of protective molecules in cells or the inhibition of apoptosis). Drug resistance is a multifactorial phenomenon. The complexity of molecular alterations in drug-resistant cells is and will stay the main problem for the successful treatment of cancer.
