Publishing in open access (gold OA route) is often associated with the payment of publication costs: APC (Article Processing Charge), BPC (Book Processing Charge), CPC (Chapter Processing Charge) and BCPC (Book Chapter Processing Charge).
In principle, the following applies:
- hybrid journal publications - always require APC payment,
- publications in gold open access journals - APC payment may or may not be required (diamond or platinum open access - publication costs are covered by the journal publisher in other ways, for example through sponsorship of fundraising through institutions, libraries, initiatives or associations and does not require payment directly from author),
- publication of a monograph or a chapter in a monograph - payment of BPC, CPC, BCPC may or may not be required (similar to the case of gold open access journals).
Actual data on the payment of publication costs must be obtained from the author (or his institution).
