Spathian (Lower Triassic) conodonts from the Tirolites cassianus beds in Paleotethys-issued North Dobrogea Orogen (Romania)
Tea Kolar-Jurkovšek, Yanlong Chen, Eugen Grǎdinaru, Bogdan Jurkovšek, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: The paper documents a conodont fauna from Lower Triassic deposits of Paleotethys-issued North Dobrogea Orogen. The studied strata exposed in the Tulcea Veche Quarry are characterized by the presence of diversified molluscs, including the ammonoid Tirolites cassianus (Quenstedt) and the bivalve Crittendenia decidens (Bittner). The site also represents the type locality of the coelacanth fish Dobrogeria aegyssensis Cavin & Grădinaru. The recovered conodont fauna is marked by Icriospathodus crassatus (Orchard), Neospathodus robustispinus Zhao & Orchard, Novispathodus abruptus (Orchard), Nv. brochus (Orchard), Nv. aff. brochus (Orchard), Tr. ex gr. homeri (Bender), Tr. hungaricus (Kozur & Mostler), Tr. ex gr. hungaricus (Kozur & Mostler), Tr. symmetricus (Orchard), Tr. aff. symmetricus (Orchard), and Triassospathodus sp. that is correlated with the Tr. symmetricus Zone.

Mid-Cretaceous calcarenite in stone products from the Roman colony of Emona, Regio X (modern Ljubljana, Slovenia)
Rok Brajkovič, Bojan Djurić, David Gerčar, Blanka Cvetko Tešović, Boštjan Rožič, Luka Gale, 2022, original scientific article

Abstract: Over the course of studying stone products from theRoman colony of Emona (Regio X), stratigraphicallyundefined calcarenite that was used to make simplesepulchral and architectural stone products wasdetected. The calcarenite used is late Aptian to earlyCenomanian in age. The corresponding facies werefound in the Lower Flyschoid Formation outcroppingnear the town of Medvode, within the local radius ofEmona. The Roman quarry was likely located in thisarea near the Sava River. According to the collecteddata, the quarry was in operation mainly in the 1stcentury.

The valorisation of selected quarry and mine waste for sustainable cement production within the concept of circular economy
Emilija Fidanchevski, Katarina Šter, Maruša Mrak, Ljiljana Kljajević, Gorazd Žibret, Klemen Teran, Bojan Poletanovic, Monika Fidanchevska, Sabina Dolenec, Ildikó Merta, 2022, original scientific article

Abstract: The cement industry could potentially consume large amounts of solid industrial waste in order to improve its sustainability. The suitability of selected quarry and mine waste as secondary raw materials (SRM) was examined for the sustainable production of cement following the concept of a circular economy. The chemical, mineralogical, and radiological characterization of SRM was conducted in this study. Its potential use in low-carbon and low-energy belite-sulfoaluminate cement was investigated by incorporating the examined SRM into cement clinker. Various characterization methods were used to characterize the cement, including X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermal analysis (DTA/TG), and isothermal calorimetry. Depending on the chemical composition of the waste, lower or higher amounts were allowed to be incorporated into the raw clinker mixture for a targeted clinker phase composition. Among the samples, differences were observed in the phase composition of synthesized clinkers, which slightly influenced the reactivity of the cement but did not significantly change the compressive strength of the final product.
