The challenge of integrating Life Cycle Assessment in the building design process - a systematic literature review of BIM-LCA workflows
Tajda Potrč Obrecht, Martin Röck, Endrit Hoxha, Alexander Passer, 2019, published scientific conference contribution

Abstract: To foster sustainable development in construction sectors, environmental impacts need to be reduced dramatically. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) technique is the most firmly established methodology used to quantify these environmental impacts and, therefore, has been applied with increasing frequency to assess the environmental performance of buildings. To effectively improve a building's environmental performance, an integration of LCA in the design process is required. This can be achieved by coupling LCA with digital design tools, e.g., Building Information Modelling (BIM). To identify the pro and cons of streamlining the integration of LCA and BIM, a comprehensive Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was performed. We identified more than 50 relevant BIM-LCA case studies and analysed the applied BIM-LCA workflows in detail. In most of the studies reviewed, the LCA has been applied in an early design stage. The authors primarily used LCA tools and manual or semi-automatic methods to exchange data between BIM models. In most cases, contemporary BIM-LCA workflows utilized conventional spreadsheets (e.g., Excel worksheets). However, the results of the analysis show that an automated link between LCA and BIM can be achieved if certain challenges are overcome. By automating exchange of information between BIM and LCA tools and improving the reliability of this process, the LCA application can be streamlined in design practice and, hence, the necessary improvements of the environmental performance of buildings can be supported.

Epidemiology and risk factors of self-reported systemic allergic reactions to a Hymenoptera venom in beekeepers worldwide : a protocol for a systematic review of observational studies
Tanja Carli, Igor Locatelli, Mitja Košnik, Andreja Kukec, 2022, review article

Abstract: Introduction Systemic allergic reaction (SAR) to a Hymenoptera venom is a potentially life-threatening disorder. The rate of SAR between beekeepers in comparison with a healthy individual is different. The risk for an SAR is particularly high in beekeepers due to their persistent or seasonal exposure to the stinging Hymenoptera. We aim to provide a critical appraisal and a synthesis of evidence-based data from epidemiological observational studies, focusing on SARs to a Hymenoptera venom and the associated risk factors for SARs in beekeepers worldwide. Methods and analysis Searching will include seven electronic databases for published studies without language restrictions, from inception up to 3 August 2021, and it will be rerun for all electronic databases prior publication. Only epidemiological observational studies in beekeepers will be included. The risk of bias in the included studies will be appraised by using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, adapted for cross-sectional studies. For the certainty of evidence, the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach will be used. Qualitative synthesis will be presented in a tabulated format with the selected characteristics across primary studies and the main outcome of interest. A meta-analysis is planned to be performed if there will be a sufficient number of homogeneous studies with complete data. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols 2015 statement will guide the reporting of this systematic literature review. Ethics and dissemination No ethics approval is needed to conduct the systematic literature review since it will be solely based on the published literature. Findings will be disseminated through the relevant conferences, peer-review and open-access journals.

Religion and literature, identity and individual : resetting the Muslim-Christian encounter
Carool Kersten, 2020, original scientific article

Abstract: In the first two decades of the twenty-first century inter-faith encounters have become a casualty of a paradigm shift in the thinking about the global order from the political-ideological bi-polar worldview of the Cold War era to a multipolar world marred by the prospect of culture wars along civilisational fault lines shaped by religiously-informed identity politics. On the back of 9/11 and other atrocities perpetrated by violent extremists from Muslim backgrounds, in particular relations with Muslims and the Islamic world are coined in binary terms of us-versus-them. Drawing on earlier research on cosmopolitanism, cul-tural hybridity and liminality, this article examines counter narratives to such modes of dichotomous thinking. It also seeks to shift away from the abstrac-tions of collective religious identity formations to an appreciation of individual interpretations of religion. For that purpose, the article interrogates the notions of cultural schizophrenia, double genealogy and west-eastern affinities developed by philosophers and creative writers, such as Daryush Shayegan, Abdelwahab Meddeb, and Navid Kermani.

Načrtovanje in izvedba sistematičnega iskanja literature v biomedicini : primer iz prakse
David Ožura, 2021, professional article

Abstract: Pregledni znanstveni članek po svoji definiciji obravnava, povzema, analizira, vrednoti in sintetizirana najnovejša že objavljena dela izbranega znanstvenega področja, dela posameznega raziskovalca ali raziskovalne skupine.

Three decades of urban forest and green space research and practice in Croatia and Slovenia
Silvija Krajter Ostoić, Dijana Vuletić, Špela Planinšek, Urša Vilhar, Anže Japelj, 2020, review article

Abstract: Background and Objectives: Urban forests and green space contribute to human wellbeing. Green infrastructure is recognized by the European Union as a planning tool that contributes to the implementation of many public policies, with urban forests and green space as its main building blocks. Croatia and Slovenia are young democracies and recent members of the European Union. Hence, they also need to contribute to the implementation of those policies. Previous review studies on urban forests and green space rarely addressed scientific or professional publications in those countries. Furthermore, the body of knowledge about urban forest and green space research and practice in post-socialist countries is still rather weak. The goal of the paper is (a) to show that urban forest and green space research and practice is much stronger in these countries than it is possible to assume based only on previous review papers or only by searching Scopus andWeb of Science, and (b) to describe publications written by scientists and professionals in the past 30 years. Materials and Methods: We used a trilingual systematic literature review to identify scientific and grey literature in various databases, as well as a snowballing technique, and yielded 211 publications in Croatia and 84 in Slovenia. Results: We identified many more publications on urban forests and green space science and practice in Croatia and Slovenia than it was possible to assume based only on previous review papers and when searching solely publications in English. Croatian authors showed continuity over time in terms of number of publications, while Slovenian publications have been on the rise in the past decade. In both countries, scientific papers were most frequent, and the vast majority of studies addressed capital cities. Croatian publications mainly focused on parks and park-forests, while Slovenian publications focused on urban forests. Interestingly, Croatian authors were a%liated with over 60 organizations, and in comparison to Slovenian authors, have stronger preference towards publishing in their local language. Green space planning and design followed by resource inventory were the most frequent themes. The least addressed themes in both countries were resource management, economic aspects, policy, legislation or governance. Conclusions: Important discussion in the future, especially in Croatia, would be regulation of urban forestry as a profession. Cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary studies, as well as focusing on cities other than capitals in future, can help in addressing issues such as climate change or application of participatory approaches.

Meritve sončnega sevanja v gozdu - I. presoja metod in instrumentov
Jurij Diaci, 1999, review article

Abstract: Energija sonca napaja ekosisteme na zemlji, zato so meritve sevanja temelj ekoloških raziskav v gozdovih.
