Presejanje za raka na debelem črevesu in danki - program SVIT

Abstract: Po podatkih Registra raka se incidenca raka na debelem črevesu in danki v Sloveniji od leta 1961 povečuje. Največ primerov bolezni se odkrije, ko je ta v napredovali obliki. V obdobju 2005 - 2009 je bil rak na debelem črevesu odkrit v lokalno omejeni obliki le v 12,3 % in rak danke le v 14,9 %. Posledice se kažejo kot visoka stopnja umrljivosti, slaba kakovost življenja bolnikov in visoki stroški zdravljenja. V skladu s priporočili Evropskega sveta in Evropskimi smernicami za zagotavljanje kakovosti v presejanju za raka na debelem črevesu in danki se je v Sloveniji leta 2009 vzpostavil Državni program presejanja in zgodnjega odkrivanja predrakavih sprememb in raka na debelem črevesu in danki – Program Svit. Pozitivni učinki programa so se pokazali že po izvedbi prvega presejalnega kroga.

Progresivna multifokalna levkoencefalopatija po rituksimabu pri bolniku z recidivnim limfomom plaščnih celic v popolni remisiji

Abstract: Progresivna multifokalna levkoencefalopatija (PML) je redko in običajno smrtno demielinizacijsko obolenje možganov, ki se razvije skoraj izključno pri bolnikih z imunsko pomanjkljivostjo in je posledica reaktivacije latentne okužbe s polioma virusom JC. V zadnjih letih so opisani tudi primeri PML po zdravljenju z rituksimabom. Predstavljamo naš prvi potrjeni primer PML pri 55-letnem HIV-negativnem bolniku z recidivnim limfomom plaščnih celic, pri katerem smo raka uspešno zdravili s kemoterapijo in rituksimabom ter z avtologno presaditvijo perifernih krvotvornih matičnih celic (PKMC). S primerom želimo opozoriti na pomembnost PML v diferencialni diagnozi pri bolnikih z napredujočo nevrološko simptomatiko in imunsko pomanjkljivostjo po zdravljenju limfoma z rituksimabom ter pomembnost zgodnjega prepoznavanja te bolezni z dokazom JC-virusne okužbe v likvorju ali v vzorcu stereotaktične biopsije možganov.

Discrimination between abiotic and biotic drought stress in tomatoes using hyperspectral imaging

Abstract: Crop plants are subjected to various biotic and abiotic stresses. Both root-knot nematodes (biotic stress) and water deficiency (abiotic stress) lead to similar drought symptoms in the plant canopy. In this work, hyperspectral imaging was used for early detection of nematode infestation and water deficiency (drought) stress in tomato plants. Hyperspectral data in the range from 400 to 2500 nm of plants subjected to different watering regimes and nematode infestation levels were analysed by partial least squares – discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and partial least squares – support vector machine (PLS-SVM) classification. PLS-SVM classification achieved up to 100% accuracy differentiating between well-watered and water-deficient plants, and between 90 and 100% when identifying nematode-infested plants. Grouping the data according to the time of imaging increased the accuracy of classification. Shortwave infrared spectral regions associated with the OH and CH stretches were most relevant for the identification of nematode infested plants and severity of infestation. This study demonstrates the capability of hyperspectral imaging to identify and discriminate between biotic and abiotic plant stresses.
