Here, the effect of laser texturing was studied on an alpha-beta titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) biomedical material. Two types of patterned surfaces, cross-hatch with varying scan-line separations, Dx = 100, 180 and 280 μm and dimples of 200 μm size, were prepared on the surface of alpha-beta titanium alloy by laser technology. Prepared samples were characterised for their surface properties, such as corrosion, wear-induced corrosion, friction and wettability. Electrochemical and tribocorrosion properties in a physiological solution were studied on the samples with different texture densities of cross-hatch pattern and dimples and compared to the as-received alpha-beta titanium alloy surface. Corrosion rate decreased for laser-textured samples, especially for cross-hatch texture (down to 1 μm/year for Dx = 180 μm) when compared to the as-received alpha-beta titanium alloy surface due to the changed laser-induced surface film and wetting properties. Friction coefficient slightly decreased for all laser-textured surfaces, most noticeably for cross-hatch patterns, from 0.38 (as-received) down to 0.34 (Dx = 180 and 280 μm). The main contribution to total wear in physiological solution increased due to the mechanical wear, which is governed by the removal of the surface oxide layer induced by laser texturing.

Investigation of surface treatment effects on the environmentally-assisted cracking behaviour of Alloy 182 in boiling water reactor environmentZaiqing Que, Bojan Zajec, Stefan Ritter, Tommi Seppänen, Timo Saario, Aki Toivonen, Aleksandra Treichel, Valentin Lautaru, Fabio Scenini, 2022, original scientific article Abstract: Surface treatments of primary circuit components in light water reactors are regarded as possible ways to mitigate environmentally-assisted cracking (EAC). To date, it is not fully conclusive which surface condition is suitable to reduce the EAC initiation susceptibility. Constant extension rate tensile (CERT) tests were performed by several labs using flat tapered tensile specimens with different surface conditions (ground, industrial face milled, advanced face milled and shot peened), exposed to a boiling water reactor normal water chemistry environment at 288°C. Despite some scatter in the results, the CERT tests revealed that the EAC initiation susceptibility seems lowest for the advanced face milled surface and highest for the shot peened surface. However, it must be emphasised that the differences were moderate and that the surprising behaviour of the shot peened surface can be explained. The mechanical grinding of the surface did not significantly retard EAC initiation compared to industrial face milling.

Papageorgiou, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: One major challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic was the limited accessibility to healthcare facilities, especially for the older population. The aim of the current study was the exploration of the extent to which the healthcare systems responded to the healthcare needs of the older people with or without cognitive impairment and their caregivers in the Adrion/Ionian region. Data were collected through e-questionnaires regarding the adequacy of the healthcare system and were anonymously administered to older individuals and stakeholder providers in the following countries: Slovenia, Italy (Calabria), Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Montenegro, and Serbia. Overall, 722 older people and 267 healthcare stakeholders participated in the study. During the COVID-19 pandemic, both healthcare stakeholders and the older population claimed that the healthcare needs of the older people and their caregivers increased dramatically in all countries, especially in Italy (Calabria), Croatia and BiH. According to our results, countries from the Adrion/Ionian regions faced significant challenges to adjust to the special needs of the older people during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was possibly due to limited accessibility opportunities to healthcare facilities. These results highlight the need for the development of alternative ways of providing medical assistance and supervision when in-person care is not possible.

Drevo je srednje bujno in razširjene rasti. Sorta je delno samooplodna. Uporabljamo jo lahko za predelavo v olje in za vlaganje, čemur prilagodimo tudi čas in način obiranja. Plodovi so nekoliko večji, srednje pozno se barvajo in vsebujejo srednjo količino olja z visoko vsebnostjo biofenolov in srednjo vsebnostjo tokoferolov. Olje velikokrat pri predelavi težko izločimo. Nizke temperature in sušo sorazmerno dobro prenaša. Proti pavjemu očesu je malo občutljiva, občutljiva pa je na oljčnega raka.

Sama je avtosterilna in za dobro oploditev potrebuje opraševalca ('Leccino', 'Moraiolo', 'Frantoio'). Drevo je močne rasti z izrazito povešajočimi tanjšimi rodnimi vejami in ozkimi ozkimi listi. V novejših nasadih se je izkazala kot sorta, ki zgodaj stopi v rodnost. Plodovi se zgodaj obarvajo v črno in dozorevajo v istem času kot 'Leccino’. Rodnost je dobra in redna, po vsebnosti olja pa je nekoliko nižja od sorte ’Leccino’. Olje ima srednjo vsebnost tokoferolov in biofenolov. Sorta je malo občutljiva za pavje oko in sajavost, odporna pa na napade oljčne muhe in oljčnega molja. Nizke temperature sorazmerno dobro prenaša.

Zanjo je značilna počasna rast, krošnja pa je bolj pokončna in redka. To je sorta, ki zgodaj stopi v rodnost. Zaradi avtosterilnosti potrebuje za oploditev opraševalce. Dobri opraševalci naj bi bili 'Frantoio', 'Casaliva', 'Pendolino' in 'Leccino'. Rodnost je slabša do srednja, a konstantna. Plodovi se zgodaj začenjajo barvati, vendar neenakomerno. Vsebnost biofenolov v olju je srednja, tokoferolov pa nizka do srednja. Sorta je neobčutljiva na nizke temperature, pavje oko in oljčnega raka, občutljiva pa na napad oljčne muhe.

Drevo je bujne rasti, mladi poganjki so dolgi in povešeni. Dozorevanje plodov je postopno in traja dalj časa. Plodovi vsebujejo več olja od sorte Leccino, olje pa ima visoko vsebnost oleinske kisline, nizko vsebnost tokoferolov in visoko vsebnost biofenolov. Na pavje oko občutljiva, na in oljčno muho je pa malosrednje občutljiva , slabše pa prenaša nizke temperature, vendar se hitro obnavlja. Znana je njena velika občutljivost na oljčnega raka, ki je pogost spremljevalec te sorte. Zelo dobro prenaša Verticillium dahliae - verticilijsko uvelost.
