Abstract:The corrosion-inhibition performance of seven organic inhibitors on Ni metal, and on CuNi10, CuNi30, and CuNi18Zn20 alloys was studied in 3 wt% NaCl. Electrochemical tests and XPS analyses revealed strong alloy-dependent inhibition. While Ni showed poor response, Cu-rich alloys formed protective Cu–inhibitor layers, with BTAH, SH-Thd-Me, and SH-BimH being optimal for CuNi10, CuNi30, and CuNi18Zn20, respectively. Surface enrichment of Cu is a decisive factor in forming a protective layer with inhibitors. Inhibitor structure and alloy composition jointly influenced film morphology and bonding, highlighting the critical role of alloying in designing corrosion inhibitor protection strategies.
