Abstract:Prispevek opisuje oblikovanje sistema kazenskih ustanov v Sloveniji v prvem letu po koncu druge svetovne vojne. V kazenskih ustanovah so vladale izjemno slabe bivanjske razmere in velika prostorska stiska spričo velikega števila jetnikov.

Title:Penal institutions after the end of the Second World War and their role in the persecution of political opponents
Abstract:The article presents the formation of the system of penal institutions in Slovenia during the first year after the end of the Second World War. Penal institutions became part of the post-war repressive apparatus, which the Communist Party used in the process of consolidating its power and prosecuting individuals it considered a threat. Organizational changes in the administration of penal institutions began as early as May 1945, and in 1946 a structure was established that remained largely unchanged until the beginning of the 1950s. Conditions in penal institutions were extremely poor, with severe overcrowding due to the large number of inmates. The enforcement of sentences was accompaniedby physical and psychological violence, experienced particularly by those individuals convicted for political reasons.
