Abstract:Geoparki so geografsko zaključena območja z izjemno geološko, naravno in kulturno dediščino, ki je pomembna v evropskem in svetovnem merilu. Njihov glavni namen je varovanje in ohranjanje dediščine, njena popularizacija, izobraževanje ter trajnostni razvoj območja. Geopark Karavanke je eden od dveh UNESCO globalnih geoparkov v Sloveniji. Pravno-formalno je organiziran kot Evropsko združenje za teritorialno sodelovanje (EZTS). Skupaj s svojimi partnerji si prizadeva za varovanje in ohranjanje tako geološke kot druge naravne in kulturne dediščine čezmejne regije ter za njen trajnostni razvoj.

Title:Karavanke UNESCO global geopark : secrets embedded in geological formations
Abstract:Geoparks are geographically defined areas with exceptional geological, natural, and cultural heritage that is significant at the European and global levels. Their main objectives are the protection and preservation of heritage, its promotion, education, and the sustainable development of the area. The Geopark Karavanke is one of two UNESCO Global Geoparks in Slovenia. Legally and formally it is organized as a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC). Together with partners it strives to protect and preserve geological as well as other natural and cultural heritage of the cross-border region and to support its sustainable development.
