| Abstract: | From a lot of mullid species captured around the Kerkennah Islands, 35 specimens of the golden-banded goatfish Upeneus moluccensis (Bleeker, 1855) were randomly collected. The present sample comprised 17 females, 7 males and 11 individuals of undetermined sex, with total lengths ranging between 99 and 153 mm and the total body weights between 31.2 and 65.2 g. Some morphometric measurements and meristic counts were also carried out in two specimens, preserved in an ichthyological collection. These specimens constitute the first substantiated record of the species from the Tunisian marine waters. Their occurrence suggests that a viable population of U. moluccensis is at present successfully established in the area. |
