| Abstract: | Between the two world wars, several public sales of private property took place in Slovenia, during which some significant private art collections were dispersed. For research into the provenance of cultural heritage objects held in public and private collections, it is important that extensive archival material has been preserved regarding these sales, which were conducted by auction. The most important source is the auction records, which contain information about the buyers of individual items, the final price, and the date of purchase. Together with the sale catalogues and other contemporary or older sources, they form an extensive database on the objects sold, and their study provides the starting point for researching their provenance. The article presents the sales of the Strahl, Chorinsky, and Szapáry collections, with particular attention given to buyers from the Sava Banovina. |
