Title:Residences of general Rudolf Maister and the genesis of the cadastral municipality of Grajski Marof in the former Graz suburb of Maribor
Abstract:The paper discusses the residences of General Rudolf Maister (1874–1934), particularly the multi-appartment building at 11 Meljska Road in Maribor, where Maister lived between 1915 and 1922, and the multi-appartment rental building at 17 Maister Street, where he lived between 1922 and 1934, from an architectural perspective. The house at 17 Maister Street is presented within the context of contemporary residential construction in the cadastral municipality of Grajski Marof, located in what was then the Graz suburb of Maribor. Two urban development plans for the cadastral municipality of Grajski Marof were drawn up in the mid-19th century, neither of which has been previously discussed in the literature. The older plan from 1846, the work of an unknown architect, was created at the initiative of Othmar Reiser (1792–1868), administrator of the Vetrinjski dvor estate (ger. Herrschaft Viktringerhof). The later plan, from 1860, was drawn by district construction engineer Franz Zistler likely at the initiative of then-mayor Othmar Reiser, with its realization strongly supported by mayor Matthäus Reiser (1830–1895).
