Abstract:Redovnice karitativnih katoliških redov so bile v prvi polovici 20. stoletja v slovenskem zdravstvu, predvsem njegovi kurativni veji, glavna delovna moč.

Title:Women’s catholic orders, congregations, and societies in Slovenian healthcare in the first half of the twentieth century
Abstract:In the first half of the twentieth century, sisters of Catholic orders of charity formed the backbone of workforce in Slovenian healthcare and especially curative care. They served the institutions of their employment with full commitment, performing everything from the basic tasks to leadership functions. The turning point came in 1948, when the new postwar authorities also introduced major changes in Slovenian curative healthcare. Religious sisters were sacked from the Slovenian health and social care system and replaced by civilian personnel. Drawing, among other sources, from religious sisters’ personal memoirs, the article provides a detailed presentation of six female orders that played an active part in healthcare processes on Slovenian territory.
Keywords:religious sisters, health system, hospital, charity work, 20th century
