Abstract:Izhodišča: Kritično mišljenje je pomemben element zagotavljanja kakovostne zdravstvene nege, zato se morajo izvajalci zdravstvene nege dejavno angažirativ procesu zbiranja, interpretiranja, analiziranja in evalviranja podatkov o pacientu, le-to pa terja vrsto miselnih veščin. Uporabljen je bil polstrukturirani anketni vprašalnik, s katerim smo želeli ugotoviti, v kolikšni meri študenti zdravstvene nege poznajo pomen in uporabljajo veščine kritičnega mišljenja v klinični praksi. Študentje so s samoocenjevalnim vprašalnikom ocenjevali, katere veščine kritičnega mišljenja obvladajo. Podatke smo obdelali s pomočjo računalniškega programa SPSS 12.0, s pomočjo standardnih statističnih metod smo izračunali povprečne vrednosti in standardni odklon.

Title:Knowledge of critical thinking skills of nursing care students of Faculty of health sciences University of Maribor
Abstract:Introduction: Critical thinking is an important element of ensuring quality nursing care. That is why nurses must actively participate in the process of gathering, interpreting, analyzing and evaluating the data of a patient, whichdemands various mental skills from them. The manner of using critical thinking in everyday life is a journey that lasts a lifetime. Because the learning lasts so long, it is never too late to start working on critical thinking. Nursing care teachers are especially aware of the importance of teaching critical thinking in nursing care. Aim: The aim of this study was to find out if first- and third-year nursing care students of the Faculty of Health Science of the University of Maribor know how to think critically, and how well they can recognise and use critical thinking skills in a clinical environment. Methods: The sample included 34 nursing care first-year and 28 third-year nursing care students, who were on clinical practice in February 2007 at the University teaching hospital in Maribor. The questionnaire used was half-structured and created in order to determine to what extent nursing care students are familiar with and use critical thinking skills in practice. The students used the self-evaluating questionnaire to assess their mastery ofvarious critical thinking skills. We analysed the data with the help of the SPSS 12.0 computer program, calculating the average mean and standard deviation with the help of standard statistical methods. Results and discussion: The results showed that first-year students answered very confidently and evaluated their critical thinking skills very highly, while third-year students were more critical toward themselves, and at the same timeshowed an awareness of the importance of critical thinking in everyday life and in their profession. All this proves that, through encouraging and teaching critical thinking skills, teachers of nursing care can influence the student's own development and the systematic development of knowledge and skills in the profession.
