Title:Historical overview of nursing
Abstract:The article describes the historical development of nursing care in different time periods, from the intuitive-empiric period, through organized learning ofnursing care and through the modern period to the contemporary period. Parallel to that, also the definition of nursing care has been developing. Thepurpose of the present article is to ilustrate some modern trends in the field of nursing today and some still present influences of the past and tradition on present day characteristics of the profession. The major impact on profession and ther public image is in the hands of the nurses themselves. In the end, the author tries to point out at the connections among the development trends in the world and in the past with the Slovene area.
