Title:The increasing need of psychiatric service and nursing care in the Idrija old people's home
Abstract:The purpose of this article is to show the influence of the changing demographic structure on the increasing need of psychiatric service and nursing care in the elderly people's homes. By lengthening life expectancy, grows also the number of dementia patients in the Idrija old people's home. The authors of the article collected and analysed the data on residents' health condition in the retirement home Dom upokojencev Jožeta Primožiča Miklavža in Idrija for the period from January to October 2007 and compared them with the data acquired on their admission. It has been confirmed that theresidents' recognition abilities tend to decrease, which implies a greater need for psychiatric service, supervision and nursing care of the residents and a demand for additional nursing staff:
