Title:Health education of patients with ischemic heart disease
Abstract:Heart and circulatory diseases occupy the first place among the causes of morbidity and mortality all over the world as well as in Slovenia. The occurence of heart and circulatory diseases is to a great extent the consequence of risk factors: smoking, excessive weight, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, high blood pressure, diabetes etc. In the spreading of information about the dangers of separate risk factors to clients/patients, health education plays the key role. Health education has to be carried out onpermanent basis of health care: primary, secundary and tertiary in all periods of life (childhood, adulthood, old age). Health education is a lengthyprocess in the frames of which clients/patients acquire adequate knowledge, information, skills which enable them to lead a healthy life. Successful health education depends on the following: forms, objectives, principles, motivation, programmes, methods and technique. Health education should be carried out by professionally qualified health workers/educators: professor of health education, physician, nurse and in part also nurse technician.
