Abstract:Prispevek uvodoma predstavlja ozadje koroškega plebiscita leta 1920 in francosko zunanjo politiko, ki je omogočila Tesnièrjevo lingvističnogeografsko raziskavo dvojine v slovenščini. Tesnière je bil kot eden od članov mednarodne plebiscitne komisije posebej povezan s Koroško in je tamkajšnje razmere s »slovanskega vidika« podrobneje opisal v uvodu v atlas. Analiza koroškega gradiva kaže, da je uspešno premostil meddržavne politične ovire. Poleg tega je zavrnil tezo o povezavah med ohranjenostjo dvojine in zaostalostjo civilizacije.

Title:Lucien Tesnière and Carinthian Slovenian Dialects
Abstract:This article begins with an account of the background to the Carinthian plebiscite (1920) and French foreign policy, which made Tesnière’s linguistic and geographical study of the Slovenian dual possible. As a member of the international plebiscite committee, Tesnière had a special connection to Carinthia and described the situation there in detail from a “Slavic perspective” in the introduction to his atlas. The analysis of the Carinthian material shows that he succeeded in overcoming international political obstacles. Furthermore, he rejected the thesis that there was a connection between the preservation of the dual and cultural backwardness.
