Abstract:Zdravje okostja ima velik vpliv na kakovost življenja posameznika pa tudi na socialno-ekonomske stroške razvitih držav. Zelo pomembno vlogo pri tem imata pridobitev optimalne maksimalne mineralne gostote kosti (MGK) v mladosti ter upočasnjevanje izgube kostne mase s staranjem. Ko govorimo o bolezenskih stanjih okostja, je potrebno razlikovati med dvema stanjema. Osteopenija je pojav zmanjšane MGK in predstavlja dejavnik tveganja za razvoj osteoporoze, bolezenskega stanja, za katerega so poleg zmanjšanja MGK značilne tudi spremembe notranje zgradbe kosti in posledično povečana krhkost ter dovzetnost za zlome. Primerna prehrana in zadostna telesna aktivnost sta ključna zaščitna vedenjska dejavnika. Predmet članka je obravnava vloge najpomembnejših hranil pri vzdrževanju zdravega okostja. Poleg kalcija, vitamina D in vitamina K, ki so obravnavani podrobneje, v prispevku razpravljava tudi o nekaterih drugih, za strukturo kosti pomembnih hranilih, predvsem magneziju, beljakovinah in fosforju. Priporočene dnevne vnose z vsemi naštetimi hranili lahko večinoma zagotovimo z uživanjem raznovrstne in uravnotežene prehrane, katere pomemben del tvorijo mlečni izdelki, pelagične ribe in zelena zelenjava. Razprava tudi navaja, v katerih primerih je potrebno razmišljati o dodajanju teh hranil prehrani.

Title:Critical nutrients in bone health
Abstract:Bone health has a critical effect on the quality of one's life, and also on the health services, economies and populations as a whole. The maximum attainment of peak bone mass achieved during growth and the rate of bone loss with advancing age are the two principal factors effecting bone health. We must distinguish two different conditions when discussing bone health. Osteopenia is a condition of lowered bone mineral density (BMD) and consideredas a serious risk factor for the development of osteoporosis, which is a skeletal disease characterised both by low bone mass and the microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue with a consequent increase in bone fragility and susceptibility to fractures. Nutrition is, together with physical activity, the most important exogenous factor influencing these processes. In this review we focused to the role of dietary calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K, the most important dietary factors of bone health, and also discussed some other critical nutrients - magnesium, proteins and phosphorus. While dairy products, fishes and green vegetables are recognized as important foods for bone health, we also discussed in which cases the supplementation should be considered.
