Towards journalism culture : a systematic literature review of journalist values in contemporary mediaTamara Besednjak Valič, Janja Lozar, 2026, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph Abstract: This chapter investigates the intersection of journalism’s values, the role of objectivity and trust and the role of journalists in contemporary society, focusing on the years between 2017 and 2023. By narrowing our gaze to English-language scientific publications, we analyse the topics of objectivity in journalism, the role of Journalists and their position within different power relations, among others. As we scrutinise this dynamic landscape, our research, adopting the systematic literature review method, aims to synthesise existing knowledge and contribute to the ongoing discourse on journalists’ value and role in journalism in society, offering insights relevant to scholars, practitioners and enthusiasts alike. Through a comprehensive analysis, we provide a thorough understanding of how journalist values and culture are conceptualised and navigated within the multifaceted realm of contemporary journalist studies.

2. Aligning stakeholder governance with industry 5.0 : enablers and barriers in rural bioeconomy transformationTamara Besednjak Valič, Erika Džajić Uršič, Janja Lozar, 2026, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph Abstract: Integrating bioeconomy principles into the emerging Industry 5.0 agenda is presented as a way to reconcile competitiveness with sustainability, resilience, and human-centric development. This chapter examines how stakeholder governance in rural regions enables or constrains such transformations, with a particular focus on the roles of governance enablers and barriers in the relevance of territorial/local self-government. Conceptually, it links debates on stakeholder governance, the bioeconomy, and Industry 5.0, arguing that rural bioeconomy pathways are shaped by the interplay of institutions, networks, and cognitive frames, rather than technology or markets alone. This article examines how stakeholder governance arrangements enable or constrain rural bioeconomy transformation across three case regions (Slovenia, Montenegro, and
Baden-Württemberg). Using Industry 5.0 as a normative frame and SOFIA as an analytical coding approach, it identifies key institutional, network, and cognitive enablers and barriers, and derives governance-relevant implications for territorial development.

3. Following Quantum Innovation Flows : the feedback loop between strategic timing and patent activity (2014–2023)Tamara Besednjak Valič, Karin Dobravc Škof, 2025, published scientific conference contribution abstract Abstract: Quantum technologies are central to the global innovation race. While national strategies are designed to secure technological sovereignty, the relationship between strategic timing and actual innovation output is complex. However, the fundamental question remains: does policy actively drive the innovation cycle or merely follow it? This study addresses this relationship by focusing on the temporal alignment between the release of national quantum strategies and the resulting patent application volume across countries (2014–2023). Utilizing PATSTAT data, with a focus on the patent application date, we establish that the global application peak occurred in 2022. This finding reveals a significant temporal paradox: while early movers like the US (National Strategic Overview for Quantum Information Systems and Related Documents, 2018) and the Netherlands (National Agenda for Quantum Technology, 2019) acted proactively, the majority of nations (including Germany, France, and Japan) released their strategies in 2023—after the innovation peak had already been reached. We further analyse the China situation (leading patent volume without a publicly available strategy) and the Netherlands paradox (early strategy despite low domestic patent count). The study's primary quantitative measure is the lag time between a strategy's publication date and the subsequent peak in a nation's domestic quantum patent applications. By analysing this temporal gap, the research provides empirical evidence to validate the effectiveness of strategic foresight versus reactive policymaking

4. Exploring the development of Slovenian sociological science : ontology analysis of scientific bibliographical dataTamara Besednjak Valič, Erika Džajić Uršič, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: One way to demonstrate the research focus and progress in a scientific field is through scientific publishing. Scientific articles are a starting point for analyzing the main topics, concerns, and author networks within a specific domain. This way, we can track the development of the discipline. Through publications, researchers create narratives that reveal the direction and development of specific disciplines. These narratives help form scientific paradigms. The main goal of this article is to detect and discuss the development of predominant scientific topics in particular period of Slovenian sociological science. The analysis starts with the emergence of the transition process from non-democratic Yugoslavia towards the independent Republic of Slovenia and onwards to contemporary times. We analyzed 774 scientific articles published between 1984 and 2022 in the journal Social Science Forum, which had an impact factor of 0.175 in 2022. The findings indicate that Slovenian sociologists’ research interests reflect historical transformations – from the transition to independence to EU accession. We use ontology-based analysis with OntoGen to track these thematic shifts systematically. This positions our work as a localized application of established text-mining approaches. The method applied allows us to uncover patterns of knowledge production tied to key sociopolitical moments in Slovenian history.

5. Emotional awareness : impact of social and technological transformation on group dynamicsPeter Ferfoglia, Tamara Besednjak Valič, Erika Džajić Uršič, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: Social transformations can lead to complex changes with significant impacts on the effectiveness of work teams. Human resources departments are responsible for monitoring, understanding, supporting, and reassessing employees during organizational restructuring brought about by new cultural, social, and technological contexts. Based on semi-structured interviews with R&D employees, this qualitative case study examines emotional experiences during simultaneous social (M&A) and technological (AI integration) transformations. Key findings revealed initial fear, uncertainty, and later optimism, alongside challenges in emotional recognition. The article highlights the critical role of external HR consultants in fostering emotional resilience and adaptation within contexts of organizational change.
