There are two search modes available: simple and advanced. Simple search can include one or more words from the title, summary, keywords or full text, but does not allow the use of search operators. Advanced search allows to limit the number of search results by entering the search terms of different categories in the search window, as well as the use of Boolean search operators (AND, OR and AND NOT). In search results short formats of records are displayed and some data are displayed as links, which open a detailed description of the material (title link) or perform a new search (author or keyword link).

Zr and Zr-Cr commercial conversion coatings deposited on 3003 aluminium alloy foil
Maja Mujdrica Kim, Barbara Kapun, Ingrid Milošev, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: MAVOMcoat MC1300 (Zr-Cr-based coating) and MC1700 (Zr-based coating) on chemically pre-treated aluminium alloy 3003. Conversion times varied from 80 s to 45 min. After deposition, the samples were subjected to three post-treatments: air drying for 15 min, air drying for 24 h, and immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 24 h. Corrosion resistance was evaluated using electrochemical measurements, whereas scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray photoelec tron spectroscopy were employed for surface analysis. Based on the evaluation of corrosion parameters, the optimal conversion times for MC1700 and MC1300 were determined to be 10 min and 7 min, respectively. The conversion coatings MC1700 and MC1300 were characterised by distinct elemental compositions, with the former predominantly comprising Zr, O, Al and F, and the latter Zr, O, Al, Cr and F. Notably, the thickness of coatings was between 10 and 170 nm, depending on the type of coating and location (matrix or intermetallic particles). The 24-hour immersion of MC1700 ZrCC in 3.5 wt% NaCl led to progressive build-up of Zr oxide and release of fluoride from the coating.

Experimental study on thermal runaway characteristics and fire hazards of lithium-ion batteries in semi-confined space of transportation

Abstract: Fire incidents involving lithium-ion batteries during transportation have become increasingly frequent, causing significant property damage and posing serious health risks to individuals nearby. Despite growing concerns over these incidents, the effects of spatial confinement during transportation on battery thermal runaway and fire behavior remain insufficiently understood. In this study, considering that batteries during transportation are often in space-limited scenarios, a comparative experiment was conducted to investigate lithium iron phosphate batteries’ thermal runaway characteristics and fire hazards in semi-confined space with top openings. The research demonstrates that semi-confined space accelerates the thermal runaway process and exacerbates the fire hazard. Furthermore, as the state of charge increases, the severity of thermal runaway and the associated fire hazard escalate. Notably, as the size of the top opening increases, the battery deflagration transitions from extinction to stable continuous combustion, with gas toxicity initially increasing and then decreasing. This paper emphasizes the critical role of semi-confined space in influencing the fire behavior of lithium-ion batteries. It underscores the importance of effective smoke venting designs to mitigate the risks of battery thermal runaway during transportation. These findings can provide valuable insights for formulating regulations on lithium-ion battery transportation and designing smoke venting systems for transportation containers.

Insights into the osteosarcoma microenvironment : multiscale analysis of structural and mineral heterogeneity

Abstract: Osteosarcoma (OS) is a malignant and heterogeneous disease that typically originates in the long bones of children and adolescents. It is characterized by the presence of immature cells having an aggressive phenotype and rapid uncontrolled proliferation. OS progression induces significant molecular and cellular changes locally within the bone, resulting in the development of an abnormal tumor microenvironment (TME). The OS TME plays a crucial role in tumor progression and development, however, the precise effects of OS on bone structure and mineralization still remain poorly understood. In this study, we examined the OS TME by analyzing samples from osteoblastic, parosteal, and periosteal osteosarcomas. Employing advanced synchrotron-based X-ray techniques, we performed a multiscale analysis to evaluate the structural and mineral complexity of tumor-affected bone. Our results revealed marked morphological differences among the osteosarcoma subtypes, while con- firming that biomineralization remains active through the production of hydroxyapatite (HA). X-ray diffraction identified two distinct hydroxyapatite crystalline phases across all samples, suggesting a critical behavior of minerals in bone. Additionally, we observed that the bone mineral structure in periosteal and parosteal osteosarcomas exhibited crystal deformations along the c-axis, whereas the osteoblastic osteosarcoma displayed a mineral profile comparable to control bone. Micro-X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy revealed the occurrence of a dysregulated biomineralization in the parosteal and periosteal subtypes, marked by the presence of calcium compounds different from HA, in contrast to the mature mineral state found in the osteoblastic variant. These findings highlight the complexity of osteosarcoma repercussion on bone tissue, offering new in- sights into the interactions within the OS TME.
