1622. Reducing seismic vulnerability of historic areas : moving from good practices to tailored roadmapsGiulia Marzani, Cavalieri Benedetta, Angela Santangelo, Petra Triller, Maja Kreslin, Charalampos Fassoulas, Simona Tondelli, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: Enhancing territorial resilience while reducing risks is of paramount importance for communities, especially for those in historic areas where vulnerability is a significant component of risk, and where cultural heritage serves as a catalyst for collective identity. However, policies and planning tools designed to protect historic areas from natural and anthropic risks remain fragmented. The aim of this paper is to provide evidence- based guidance to help policymakers build tailored roadmaps for reducing the seismic vulnerability of historic areas. This research focuses on the Adriatic–Ionian region, with six countries identified as case studies. The methodology is structured in three phases. First, good practices for addressing seismic vulnerability are identified and codified to improve existing knowledge. Second, a replicability and scalability assessment of the good practices is performed for each case study. Finally, roadmaps are developed as ready-to-use tools to support the implementation of measures to reduce seismic vulnerability. Although the results reveal considerable variability in the readiness levels of the six case studies to act for reducing seismic vulnerability, the overall methodology effectively supports policymakers in moving from good practice selection to tailored roadmaps for enhancing resilience. 1623. The susceptibility of subglacial carbonates to frost weatheringMatej Lipar, Matija Zorn, Mateja Ferk, Klemen Cof, Janko Čretnik, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: The retreat of glaciers over the last century exposed subglacial carbonate, which formed between the glacier ice body and bedrock due to regelation. As such they have implications for paleoenvironmental studies. They are particularly significant as indicators of past glacial presence – since they can form under glacial conditions – and recent glacial retreat, given their high susceptibility to rapid weathering. However, their susceptibility to frost weathering remains relatively unexplored. This study investigates the susceptibility of subglacial carbonates to frost weathering by exposing them to freeze–thaw cycles in a freezing tank. The study demonstrates that subglacial carbonates are inherently weak and prone to weathering, with around a quarter of the samples experiencing breakage into shreds. While exact rates of weathering in natural settings remain challenging to determine, the laboratory conditions provided a framework for evaluating the fundamental response of subglacial carbonates to temperature stresses. 1624. Comparative study of microstructural influence on corrosion resistance in conventional and Al-Mn quasicrystalline cast aluminum alloysMirjam Bajt Leban, Tim Drevenšek, Tadeja Kosec, Blaž Leskovar, Boštjan Markoli, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: The investigation focused on the quasicrystalline aluminum alloy Al-Mn-Cu-Mg-Si-Ti. The influence of microstructure of aluminum alloy strengthened with quasicrystals on its corrosion resistance was studied. The properties of newly designed quasicrystalline aluminum alloy (QC) were compared to the properties of standard AlSi9Cu3 alloy (DIN 226). Both aluminum alloys (QC and AlSi9Cu3) were cast in a steel die with a controlled cooling rate. After the preparation of the samples, the microstructural characterization was carried out. In the quasicrystalline alloy, the microstructure was dominated by a primary phase with fivefold symmetry, representing the quasicrystalline phase. To investigate corrosion properties, open-circuit potential, linear polarization and potentiodynamic polarization measurements were performed. The influence of corrosion on mechanical properties was studied by conducting tensile tests on environmentally exposed alloys. It was concluded that the quasicrystalline alloy has comparable corrosion properties to the commercially widely used AlSi9Cu3 alloy. In the latter alloy, corrosion was observed to initiate in the vicinity of the Al2Cu intermetallic compound particles. In the case of the QC alloy, corrosion attacked mainly the αAl phase (matrix). 1625. Overstrength in timber engineering : general discussion and proposal for a more reliable and broader applicationReinhard Brandner, Boris Azinović, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: This review paper explores the concepts of overstrength and ductility as fundamental components of capacity- based design with a focus on timber engineering. It addresses the necessity of implementing overstrength and capacity-based design principles for effectively managing both accidental and characteristic load scenarios. Current approaches define overstrength either within the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) framework or by means of structural reliability analyses at component level, both with clear limitations in controlling the overall structural reliability and the target failure hierarchy, which is exemplified and demonstrated by a parameter study. In response, a new thematic approach for overstrength factors is proposed, formulated within the structural reliability framework, which enhances the understanding and application of ductility in design. This new methodology is benchmarked against existing approaches, therefore demonstrating its effectiveness. A clear and concise definition of ductility is emphasised as essential for a meaningful application of capacity-based design in clear conjunction with the concept of overstrength. The aim is to create a clear classification of component failure modes either as brittle (non-dissipative, non-ductile) or ductile (and dissipative, i.e. connections which provide also ductility in reverse loadings without severe pinching), which is crucial for reliably achieving a failure hierarchy where ductile failures precede brittle failures. The findings underline the importance of integrating overstrength and ductility into timber engineering practice to improve structural safety and at the same time to achieve resilient designs. 1627. Optimized flux single-crystal growth of the quantum spin liquid candidate ▫$NdTa_7O_{19}$▫ and other rare-earth heptatantalates, ▫$ErTa_7O_{19}$▫ and ▫$GdTa_7O_{19}$▫Lia Šibav, Matic Lozinšek, Zvonko Jagličić, Tina Arh, Panchanana Khuntia, Andrej Zorko, Mirela Dragomir, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: Single crystals are essential for characterizing a wide range of magnetic states, including exotic ones such as quantum spin liquids. This study reports a flux method for growing single crystals of NdTa7O19, the first quantum spin liquid candidate on a triangular spin-lattice with dominant Ising-like spin correlations. Purple NdTa7O19 single crystals with hexagonal morphology were successfully grown by using a K2Mo3O10–B2O3 flux. With lateral sizes up to 3.5 mm and a thickness up to 2 mm, these are the largest dimensions reported to date. The chemical composition was confirmed by powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction along with scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Aiming for an accurate determination of the magnetic anisotropy and its effect on the magnetic properties, NdTa7O19 crystals were additionally analyzed by magnetic susceptibility, revealing a substantial anisotropy without long-range magnetic ordering down to 2 K. Single crystals of two novel rare-earth heptatantalates, ErTa7O19 and GdTa7O19, were also grown, and their magnetic properties investigated. The magnetic anisotropy of ErTa7O19 closely resembles that of isostructural NdTa7O19, indicating the possibility of a similar exotic magnetic ground state. In contrast, GdTa7O19 shows paramagnetic behavior, consistent with previous results obtained for polycrystalline samples. 1628.
1629. Agrarian reform and colonization as the foundations for the legitimate rule of the Yugoslav socialist government : the gateway towards collectivization in Slavonia and VojvodinaPetar Grubišić, 2022, original scientific article Abstract: This paper analyses the agrarian reform and colonization in Slavonia and Vojvodina from 1945 to 1948. This process can be
viewed as the culmination of the processes of land redistribution which started in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
However, land redistribution and colonization after World War II took place in vastly different circumstances, not only due to the
new political system, but also due to the forceful expulsion of the German-speaking population in those areas. Although colonization
was initially viewed as a long-term project, it had concluded up by the beginning of 1948. The paper analyzes the colonization
and land redistribution from the perspective of colonists from Dalmatia who were settled in Slavonia and Vojvodina. Based
on archival sources and existing scholarly works on this topic, it analyzes the reasons for the relocation of certain groups, the
methods that were used in the redistribution of land, and how it permanently changed society in the region. Keywords: agrarna reforma, kolonizacija, kolektivizacija, komasacija, Slavonija, Vojvodina, Jugoslavija, 1945/1948 Published in DiRROS: 14.07.2025; Views: 375; Downloads: 150
