1031. Exploring the genotoxic potential of Bisphenol A and its emerging alternatives in an advanced in vitro 3D zebrafish hepatic cell modelAlja Štern, Katja Kološa, Špela Rozman, Bojana Žegura, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: With global restrictions on Bisphenol A (BPA), various BPA alternatives are increasingly found in ecosystems, raising concerns. This study focuses on the genotoxic potential of three emerging BPA alternatives — Bisphenol AF (BPAF), Bisphenol AP (BPAP), and Bisphenol PH (BPPH) — using an advanced in vitro 3D model system, spheroids, prepared from a Zebrafish (Danio rerio) liver cell line (ZFL). Their cytotoxicity was evaluated using the CellTiter-Glo® 2.0 assay, while their genotoxic potential was assessed using the comet assay, γH2AX assay, and toxicogenomic analysis. The BPA alternatives were more cytotoxic to ZFL spheroids than BPA. Non-cytotoxic concentrations caused transient DNA damage without a significant increase in DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). The toxicogenomic analysis confirmed these findings, indicating activation of the TP53 DNA damage response pathway, the nucleotide excision repair (NER) and base excision repair (BER) mechanisms, likely in response to bulky DNA lesions and oxidative DNA damage. In addition, the gene expression analysis indicated the influence of the tested BPs on the endocrine system. Our results indicate that BPAF, BPAP and BPPH have considerable genotoxic potential and pose a significant ecotoxicological risk, underscoring the need for further investigation and careful consideration of these chemicals as BPA replacements. 1033. 1034. Tuning the photocatalytic activity of nanocrystalline titania by phase composition control and nitrogen doping, using different sources of nitrogenNejc Rozman, Luka Škrlep, Miran Gaberšček, Andrijana Sever Škapin, 2014, original scientific article Abstract: Titania nanoparticles were synthesized by employing the hydrothermal method and using TiOSO4as a titanium source. By varying pH between 0.5 and 1.0 and adding isopropanol to the hydrothermal reaction mixture, different mixtures of anatase, rutile, and brookite were obtained. The samples were also doped with nitrogen at different N concentrations using, respectively, urea, ammonium nitrate, and tripropylamine as nitrogen sources. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and according to their specific surface area. Additionally, their photocatalytic activity was measured in a gas-solid reactor system. The results show that low pH favours rutile formation, whereas a higher pH yields mixed phase titania polymorphs. Isopropanol addition also favours rutile formation, and boosted the photocatalytic activity of the resulted particles. Contrary to most data in the literature, rutile turned out to be the more active phase in the present investigation. Nitrogen doping, on the other hand, did not contribute to higher photocatalytic activity, but was rather detrimental to it. 1036. Tribo-corrosion properties of a NiTi dental wirePetra Močnik, Tadeja Kosec, 2014, original scientific article Abstract: NiTi-alloy arch wires are used in dental medicine for tooth positioning. Failures are reported during the mounting and operation. It is supposed that these difficulties are results of a simultaneous presence of corrosion and mechanical wear. First, a corrosive medium was examined in order to simulate the conditions in the mouth. Different simulated body fluids were compared with natural saliva using electrochemical methods. The corrosion properties of the NiTi dental wire in the as-received state and without the surface oxide film were studied with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Tribo-corrosion tests of NiTi in artificial saliva were performed and a relation between the chemical and mechanical wear was studied. After the experiment, the surface was spectroscopically examined. The relation between the chemical and mechanical wear was determined. 1037. 1040. Silane-modified lanthanide complexes for integration into hybrid coatings and nanoparticles : thermal sensing applications and live cell labelingIvan Sedmak, Aljoša Bolje, Jakob Kljun, Rok Podlipec, Hana Kokot, Sebastjan Nemec, Slavko Kralj, Peter Rodič, Iztok Golobič, Stane Pajk, 2026, original scientific article Abstract: Temperature sensing at the micro- and nanoscale remains a significant challenge due to the limitations of conventional techniques in spatial resolution and invasiveness. Here, we report the development of luminescent, temperature-sensitive coatings and nanoparticles based on a newly synthesized europium (Eu) complex integrated into a composite poly(methyl methacrylate)-siloxane-silica (PMMA-siloxane silica) matrix. The Eu complex, identified as the most promising candidate among three lanthanide complexes, was functionalized with silyl ethers via copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition and successfully incorporated into thin PMMA-siloxane silica films on glass surfaces and within silica nanoparticles. These materials exhibited strong thermal responsiveness, chemical stability, and suitability for high-resolution temperature sensing. Furthermore, Eu-loaded silica nanoparticles showed a distinct fluorescent signal and multiplexing capability in live-cell confocal microscopy and were internalized by lung epithelial cells (LA-4 cell line), highlighting their potential as bioimaging probes for localized intracellular temperature sensing. Although some photobleaching was observed under prolonged excitation, the materials demonstrated sufficient chemical and mechanical stability, making them promising for luminescent temperature sensing and live-cell imaging. These results establish the developed Eu-based hybrid materials as robust, non-invasive luminescent probes for high-resolution thermal sensing and cellular imaging.
