Relationship between job characteristics and music performance anxiety in collaborative pianists working in Slovenian music schools
Katarina Babnik, Žan Lep, Katarina Habe, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: Introduction: Music performance anxiety (MPA) is a significant challenge for amateur and professional musicians, as well as music students. Systematic literature reviews highlight a lack of research on the role of contextual variables in MPA. This study contributes to existing knowledge by examining how job characteristics, particularly job demands and job resources, influence MPA among collaborative pianists. Method: A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted on 94 collaborative pianists (24% of the population) working at all three levels of the Slovenian music education system. Data were collected through an online survey, including demographic characteristics, objective workload measures, and perceived job characteristics scales (cognitive job demands, emotional demands, job influence, role clarity, role conflict, and organizational justice), along with an adapted MPA scale. Confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency analysis were conducted for each scale, followed by correlation analysis and a multiple linear regression model to predict MPA. Results: The study tested six hypotheses, with mixed support for the proposed relationships. The regression model explained 50% (F = 5.11; df1 = 10, df2 = 51, p < 0.001) of the variance in MPA, with perceived emotional demands (β = 0. 50; t = 3.57; p < 0.001) and role conflict (β = 0.38; t = 2.65; p = 0.011) playing significant roles in predicting MPA. Discussion and conclusions: The findings enhance the understanding of MPA in the job context and have practical implications for music school management. Future research should explore the interaction between job characteristics and individual psychological resources across diverse professional and cultural contexts with representative samples.

Vertical transmission of tomato viruses
Nataša Mehle, Adrian Fox, Antonio Tiberini, Heiko Ziebell, 2025, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph

Abstract: The vertical transmission of tomato viruses through seeds and pollen is a significant yet often overlooked pathway for the persistence and global spread of these pathogens. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of current knowledge on the mechanisms, epidemiological implications, and management strategies of vertically transmitted tomato viruses. While recent advances in diagnostic techniques such as high-throughput sequencing (HTS), have improved virus detection, key research gaps remain in understanding the molecular and ecological dynamics of seed and pollen transmission. The interaction between vertical and horizontal transmission modes complicates virus epidemiology, necessitating an integrated management approach that includes rigorous seed health testing, genetic resistance breeding, and biosecurity measures. Emerging threats, such as resistance-breaking virus strains and the impact of climate change on vector distribution, underscore the need for enhanced surveillance and stronger international regulatory cooperation. This review highlights the need for interdisciplinary research and collaboration to develop sustainable virus mitigation strategies. Future research priorities include optimizing detection methods, exploring next-generation breeding technologies, and strengthening international biosecurity frameworks to safeguard global tomato production against the growing threat of vertically transmitted viruses.

Exploring the genotoxic potential of Bisphenol A and its emerging alternatives in an advanced in vitro 3D zebrafish hepatic cell model
Alja Štern, Katja Kološa, Špela Rozman, Bojana Žegura, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: With global restrictions on Bisphenol A (BPA), various BPA alternatives are increasingly found in ecosystems, raising concerns. This study focuses on the genotoxic potential of three emerging BPA alternatives — Bisphenol AF (BPAF), Bisphenol AP (BPAP), and Bisphenol PH (BPPH) — using an advanced in vitro 3D model system, spheroids, prepared from a Zebrafish (Danio rerio) liver cell line (ZFL). Their cytotoxicity was evaluated using the CellTiter-Glo® 2.0 assay, while their genotoxic potential was assessed using the comet assay, γH2AX assay, and toxicogenomic analysis. The BPA alternatives were more cytotoxic to ZFL spheroids than BPA. Non-cytotoxic concentrations caused transient DNA damage without a significant increase in DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). The toxicogenomic analysis confirmed these findings, indicating activation of the TP53 DNA damage response pathway, the nucleotide excision repair (NER) and base excision repair (BER) mechanisms, likely in response to bulky DNA lesions and oxidative DNA damage. In addition, the gene expression analysis indicated the influence of the tested BPs on the endocrine system. Our results indicate that BPAF, BPAP and BPPH have considerable genotoxic potential and pose a significant ecotoxicological risk, underscoring the need for further investigation and careful consideration of these chemicals as BPA replacements.

Tuning the photocatalytic activity of nanocrystalline titania by phase composition control and nitrogen doping, using different sources of nitrogen
Nejc Rozman, Luka Škrlep, Miran Gaberšček, Andrijana Sever Škapin, 2014, original scientific article

Abstract: Titania nanoparticles were synthesized by employing the hydrothermal method and using TiOSO4as a titanium source. By varying pH between 0.5 and 1.0 and adding isopropanol to the hydrothermal reaction mixture, different mixtures of anatase, rutile, and brookite were obtained. The samples were also doped with nitrogen at different N concentrations using, respectively, urea, ammonium nitrate, and tripropylamine as nitrogen sources. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and according to their specific surface area. Additionally, their photocatalytic activity was measured in a gas-solid reactor system. The results show that low pH favours rutile formation, whereas a higher pH yields mixed phase titania polymorphs. Isopropanol addition also favours rutile formation, and boosted the photocatalytic activity of the resulted particles. Contrary to most data in the literature, rutile turned out to be the more active phase in the present investigation. Nitrogen doping, on the other hand, did not contribute to higher photocatalytic activity, but was rather detrimental to it.

Tribo-corrosion properties of a NiTi dental wire
Petra Močnik, Tadeja Kosec, 2014, original scientific article

Abstract: NiTi-alloy arch wires are used in dental medicine for tooth positioning. Failures are reported during the mounting and operation. It is supposed that these difficulties are results of a simultaneous presence of corrosion and mechanical wear. First, a corrosive medium was examined in order to simulate the conditions in the mouth. Different simulated body fluids were compared with natural saliva using electrochemical methods. The corrosion properties of the NiTi dental wire in the as-received state and without the surface oxide film were studied with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Tribo-corrosion tests of NiTi in artificial saliva were performed and a relation between the chemical and mechanical wear was studied. After the experiment, the surface was spectroscopically examined. The relation between the chemical and mechanical wear was determined.
