1. Building competences for researchers working towards ocean sustainabilityJerneja Penca, Andrea Barbanti, Christopher Cvitanovic, Amel Hamza-Chaffai, Ahmed Elshazly, Jean-Baptiste Jouffray, Nezha Mejjad, Melita Mokos, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The challenges of achieving just, equitable and sustainable ocean futures require a new type of transdisciplinary and action-oriented science that integrates across disciplines and knowledge systems. Scientists and researchers in academia, industry or government, who contribute to knowledge creation, innovation, and policy development for the ocean, must be empowered with a fresh set of competences. This paper maps the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to enable such a shift. The proposed skillset serves as a foundation for the design and operationalisation of modern training for ocean sustainability and is envisaged to be used by researchers both individually and in teams. It also highlights the potential for career diversification beyond the traditional ’blue jobs’ legitimated by existing sectors. To ensure the short-term practical implementation of the competence framework, self-awareness and self-reflection are encouraged among learners and teachers, along with pragmatic actions to overcome barriers to transdisciplinarity. For long-term impact, system interventions will be necessary to improve organisations’ readiness to absorb and valorise researchers trained in this new framework. This will require re-training the current pedagogical workforce as well as reframing existing knowledge systems and incentives. 2. Evolution of RMA in SloveniaPrimož Petek, Tjaša Baloh, Vanda Baloh, 2024, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Povzetek: This chapter outlines the research management and administration (RMA) as a profession and work field in Slovenia. Thus, we present an overview of the Slovenian research system, describing how this system has evolved over time. In addition, we explain the emerging need for RMA skills, including its self-organisation component and the challenges that lie ahead. A section is dedicated to Slovenian RMA demographics using RAAAP-2 and RAAAP-3 surveys. The conclusions of the chapter focus on a forecast for the future of RMA in Slovenia and several possible paths to follow for its community. 7. A historical overview of experimental solid combustion research in microgravityWilson Ulises Rojas Alva, Grunde Jomaas, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Studying solid combustion phenomena in microgravity environments can be complex, and this is furthered by many limitations and constraints in the available microgravity research platforms. Consequently, fire safety in spacecraft is also a complex subject. The main limitations found in the field are related to the microgravity quality, the duration of microgravity conditions, the rig capabilities in volume and size, time scales, length scales and the diagnostic systems, and these are therefore the focus in the current investigation. The laboratory capacity of ground-based platforms has remained somewhat stalled since 1990s, some drop towers have recently been upgraded to extend their performance. New space-based platforms have been or are being established and could extend the windows-of-opportunity to perform research. In addition, a discussion is provided on the implications of the fact that the phenomena studied in the experimental investigations and the type of material employed covers both programmatic and scientific needs. It is found that a handful of materials are most widely studied to quantify and characterise some of the phenomena, while some materials have been employed even in single experimental efforts. The current literature review provides a very comprehensive overview of previous experimental studies and the experimental methodologies utilised. Thus, this study can become an aid to planning for future studies. 10. Researching "on and in" global south countries : southeast AsiaMohammed Ilyas, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Over the last decade, there has been an increasing awareness that colonialism continues through various overlapping iterations of coloniality, such as politics, economics, security and academia. Academics from global north countries and global south countries have highlighted and called for the dismantling of coloni-ality in its various iterations. Perhaps the most vocal decolonising calls have come from global north academics wanting to decolonise global north academia in the form of epistemic decolonisation. As such, in this article, I call on global north academics researching 'on and in' global south countries to employ decolonial me-thodologies to avoid inadvertently reinforcing coloniality. By utilising autoethnography and critical decolonial reflexivity, I offer ways for global north academics researching on or in global south countries to guard against reinforcing coloniality during their research.
