Additive manufacturing multi-material components of SAF 2507 duplex steel and 15-5 PH martensitic stainless steel
Martina Koukolíková, Pavel Podaný, Sylwia Rzepa, Michal Brázda, Aleksandra Kocijan, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Povzetek: The study reports the successful deposition of 15–5 precipitation-hardened (PH) martensitic steel on SAF 2507 duplex stainless steel (and vice versa) to form functionally graded materials (FGMs) using powder-based, directed-energy-deposition (DED) technology. The evolution of the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the 15–5 PH/SAF 2507 functionally graded material in the as-built state were investigated systematically. The results proved that the microstructural transition zone (MTZ) is formed above the fusion line due to the dilution effect of both steels. The phase composition of the MTZ consists of ferrite and, in comparison to the base materials, an increased amount of austenite. The interface has the lowest hardness owing to the formation of a significant proportion of the austenitic phase. However, the tensile mechanical properties were not affected by the interface as failure occurred in both SAF 2507 and at the interface regions. The research presents a promising application of FGMs in a horizontal configuration to form a high - quality, metallurgical joint between heterogeneous materials. This study introduces a novel approach by additive manufacturing (AM) of heterogeneous multi-materials, merging the favorable properties of duplex SAF 2507 and martensitic 15-5 PH stainless steels through superior metallurgical bonding. The combination of SAF 2507 and 15-5 PH in a functionally graded material has not been previously explored, as the existing studies deal with the duplex stainless steels SAF 2507 and either martensitic stainless-steel 15-5 PH deposited separately by laser powder-bed-fusion (L-PBF) or DED methods. This research pioneers the investigation of these materials in tandem, paving the way for the development of novel FGMs with optimized properties for specific applications. The resulting FGM exhibits exceptional corrosion resistance and high strength, making it highly versatile for applications in diverse industries such as offshore oil and gas production, aerospace, aviation, and chemical processing equipment.

Rigidity of terminal simplices in persistent homology
Aleksandra Franc, Žiga Virk, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Povzetek: Given a filtration function on a finite simplicial complex, stability theorem of persistent homology states that the corresponding barcode is continuous with respect to changes in the filtration function. However, due to the discrete setting of simplicial complexes, the simplices terminating matched bars cannot change continuously for arbitrary perturbations of filtration functions. In this paper we provide a sufficient condition for rigidity of a terminal simplex, i.e., a condition on $\varepsilon > 0$ implying that the terminal simplex of a homology class or a bar in persistent homology remains constant through $\varepsilon$-perturbations of filtration function. The condition for a homology class or a bar in dimension $n$ depends only on the barcodes in dimensions $n$ and $n+1$.

Subchronic exposure of rats to sublethal dose of microcystin-YR induces DNA damage in multiple organs
Metka Filipič, Bojana Žegura, Bojan Sedmak, Irena Horvat-Žnidaršič, Aleksandra Milutinović Živin, Dušan Šuput, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Povzetek: Background. Microcystins (MCs) are cyclic heptapeptides that are considered tobe liver specific toxins. They are potent tumour promoters and recent studies indicate that they are also genotoxic. In this study we measured DNA damage in lymphocytes, liver, kidney (cortex and medulla), lung, spleen and brain cells of male Fisher F344 rats that were exposed to sublethal dose (every second day 10 Ugžkg b.w.č i.p) of microeysrin-YR (MCYR) for one month. Methods. At the end of exposure the animals were sacrificed, the lymphocytes were isolated from blood taken from jugular vein, liver cells were obtained byperfusion with collagenase A and the cells from other organs were isolated by incubating small tissue pieces with eollagenase A. The DNA damage in isolated cells was measured with the single cells gel electrophoresis (SCGE) also called the comet assay. Results. A significant increase of the % tail DNAin MCYR-exposed animals compared to the nonexposed control ones was observed in brain (2.5 fold), liver (2.1 fold), kidney medulla (1.9 fold), kidney cortex (1.8 fold) and lung (1.7 fold) cells, while the DNA from lymphocytes and spleen cells was not affected. Conclusion. This study demonstrated that subehronic exposure to sublethal doses of MCs can induce systemicgenotoxicity in mammals, and it affects not only the liver but also other vital organs.

An outline of the history of radiotherapy at the Institute of oncology in Ljubljana from its beginning till 1980s
Aleksandra Oklješa Lukič, Karmen Hübscher, 2003, strokovni članek

Povzetek: Background. The article presents the milestone events in the history of radiotherapy at the lnstitute of Oncology since its establishment till 1980s. It reviews the facts deduced from various jubilee publications, seminar reports and staff interviews of the Institute of Oncology. The aim of the article is to present the chronological history of radiotherapy at the Institute of Oncology, and to supplement the fragmented and incomplete recordswritten in the past. Conclusions. Available records are occasionally discrepant, but the most significant events in the history of the Institute ofOncology and its Radiotherapy Ward can nevertheless be ascertained.
