Climate change increases the number of landslides at the juncture of the Alpine, Pannonian and Mediterranean regions
Mateja Jemec Auflič, Nejc Bezak, Ela Šegina, Peter Frantar, Stefano Luigi Gariano, Anže Medved, Tina Peternel, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: During the next few decades, changes in rainfall frequency and magnitude are expected to have major impacts on landscape evolution, social, and economic aspects of human society. We focus on seasonal rainfall variations by the end of the twenty-first century to define affected landslide-prone areas, future landslide alerts and the impact of landslides on landscape development in the juncture of the Alpine, Pannonian, and Mediterranean region. A moderate and a worst-case climate scenario from CMIP5 global climate simulations were considered to determine the impact of rainfall on the two most common types of landslides in region, shallow and deep-seated landslides. The observed changes in the occurrence of shallow landslides are significant, especially in the winter months, where we can expect more landslide-prone areas compared to the baseline period. Shallow landslides will have a greater impact on the landscape in spring and summer than deep-seated landslides, especially in vineyards.

Ribiške zgodbe v šoli : priročnik za učitelje tretje triade osnovnih šol
Lucija Čok, Tina Čok, Urška Bratož, Irina Moira Cavaion, Anna Maria Grego, 2023, dictionary, encyclopaedia, lexicon, manual, atlas, map

Abstract: Priročnik Ribiške zgodbe v šoli je namenjen predvsem osnovnošolskim učiteljicam in učiteljem tretje triade, ki bi želeli dopolniti, razširiti in poglobiti vsebine, predvidene v okviru nekaterih obveznih in izbirnih predmetov (etnologija – kulturna dediščina in načini življenja, zgodovina – odkrivajmo preteklost svojega kraja, geografija – raziskovanje domačega kraja (šolskega okoliša) in varstvo njegovega okolja, pa tudi slovenščina in italijanščina …).

Abstract: Simple, low-cost methods for sensing volatile organic compounds that leave no trace and do not have a detrimental effect on the environment are able to protect communities from the impacts of contaminants in water supplies. This paper reports the development of a portable, autonomous, Internet of Things (IoT) electrochemical sensor for detecting formaldehyde in tap water. The sensor is assembled from electronics, i.e., a custom-designed sensor platform and developed HCHO detection system based on Ni(OH)2–Ni nanowires (NWs) and synthetic-paper-based, screen-printed electrodes (pSPEs). The sensor platform, consisting of the IoT technology, a Wi-Fi communication system, and a miniaturized potentiostat can be easily connected to the Ni(OH)2–Ni NWs and pSPEs via a three-terminal electrode. The custom-made sensor, which has a detection capability of 0.8 µM/24 ppb, was tested for an amperometric determination of the HCHO in deionized (DI) and tap-water-based alkaline electrolytes. This promising concept of an electrochemical IoT sensor that is easy to operate, rapid, and affordable (it is considerably cheaper than any lab-grade potentiostat) could lead to the straightforward detection of HCHO in tap water.
