1. Medicine and Fairy Tales : Pohorje Fairy Tales as a Source about Diseases and HealthMojca Ramšak, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Fairy tales are fascinating fantasies, but they also gave people a better understanding of serious issues such as illness, injury, and even death. The results of the analysis of a large corpus of a total of 1512 published fairy tales, legends, and other documentary prose about Pohorje, most of which date back to the 19th and the first half of 20th centuries, and whose origins were in a time when diseases were ubiquitous and poorly understood, show that the theme of health and disease rarely appear in these sources, however, when they do mention it, they refer specifically to the living conditions of people in the Pohorje Mountains, epidemics, social diseases, mental illnesses, congenital deformities, and ideas about the relationship between disease, the human body, and supernatural forces. One of the reasons for such explanations is the widespread absence of doctors in this hilly area. 2. Cognitive Matrices in Folktales and Contemporary Practices of Deliberation : From the Utilitarian Mindset of Mojca Pokrajculja to the Incomprehensible Laughter of the BeanMarjan Horvat, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The aim of the paper is to illuminate how folktales, with their specific conceptualization of universal dilemmas, reflect culture-bound patterns of decision-making in relation to the contemporary socio-political discourse in a given society. In this respect, I perceive folktales firstly as a reflection of embedded cognitive/cultural matrices that determine »cognitive-instrumental rationality«, linked to traditions and cultural norms (Jürgen Habermas). I explore these matrices using a new methodological approach which connects the sociological theory of fairy tales, deliberative democracy and cognitive history. This approach is then applied to the analysis of the conceptualization of dilemmas in three Slovenian folktales (Mojca Pokrajculja, The Ant and the Lazy Cricket, The Bean, the Straw, and the Coal). The analysis asserts correlations between traditionally and culturally conditioned forms of decision-making, and contemporary practices of decision-making / deliberation, thus shedding light on the specifics of national epistemology from a comparative and historicist perspective. 3. The Beginnings of Slovene Germanic Philology : the First Professors and the Social Profile of the First Students from the LittoralIrena Samide, Petra Kramberger, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This article seeks to shed light on the beginnings of Germanic philology in the Slovene lands, concentrating both on the leading figure of Dr Jakob Kelemina (1882–1957), who established Germanic philology in the Slovene academic space and dominated it for many years, and on the profile of his students from the Slovene, Italian, and Croatian littoral. The findings, which are based on the quantitative and qualitative analysis of archive sources, lecture lists and student records, and on Bourdieu’s classification of education opportunities by economic and cultural capital, show that students from the coastal regions made up 17% of the 916 students of both sexes who attended lectures on Germanic philology up until the end of the Second World War; of these, 54% were women. The students’ social origin was found to have had considerable influence on their decision to take up such studies, as the large majority came from the middle and upper strata of the population. 4. The Non-uniformity of the Church : Language Diversity and the Roman Catholic Dioceses in late Habsburg AustriaTamara Scheer, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The Roman Catholic Church is often spoken of in the singular. This article argues that this was not applicable for language politics. The many dioceses in late Habsburg Austria approached the organization of language use differently, whether it be the internal language use, the ordinariate language, or the daily language use in the many parishes. The reasons for this varied organization were mixed: so called historical traditions, but most importantly, individuals acting, on top bishops. Beside, many priests actively took part in local (nationalist) language discourse, and bishops judged their activity differently. 5. When Peace is not Enough. Marco Michiel and the Council of Ten in Early Sixteenth-Century Venice : Shifting Judicial Paradigms and Noble ViolenceAndrew Vidali, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The homicide of Vincenzo Molin by Marco Michiel in early 1518 fits into the framework of feuds and enmities between Venetian noble families that broke out in the first half of the sixteenth century. But these events overlapped with greater political and judicial changes, which involved the Council of Ten taking action against elite violence with unprecedented intensity. The result of this intersection is an episode with various outstanding features, in particular, the early questioning of the juridical-cultural relevance of peace-making as essential to ensure the end of judicial exile. 6. The Songs of the Scaffold : Characteristics, Creation, and Diffusion of Execution Ballads in Sixteenth- and Seventeenth-Century CataloniaAlejandro Llinares Planells, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This paper analyzes songs of the scaffold in Catalonia in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, a hitherto unknown subject that has been paid little attention to date. On the one hand, I will analyze their creation and dissemination using different documentary and literary evidences to demonstrate that they were highly demanded texts composed when an execution was going to be held. On the other hand, I focus on the propagandistic role that these printed texts had, using a microhistorical analysis of two examples: the famous bandit Antoni Roca (1546) and the Morisco witch hunter Joan Malet (1549). 7. The Ethical Imperative in the Oral History Method : Select Observations on Historical Research on Migration and Border SpacesUrška Strle, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The field of ethics is one of the key considerations in all spheres of scientific research, and oral history is no exception. Despite its seemingly easy method of acquiring knowledge about the past, oral history is one of the most sensitive and demanding methods of historical research, and ethical considerations should therefore be given central importance. The article is empirically based on observation of public practices and field experience in collecting testimonies with post-war emigrants to Canada and with individuals from the Soča (Isonzo) river basin, a border area with a high level of emigration. It serves as a contribution to raising awareness regarding the ethical aspects of oral history, which are on average rather poorly reflected. 8. Thematic Exploration of Slovenia’s Path to Independence in Slovenian Scopus-Indexed History Journals : A Bibliometric and Sociometric AnalysisDavid Hazemali, Mateja Matjašič Friš, Andrej Naterer, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This article explores how Slovenian history journals have portrayed Slovenia’s path to independence. The analysis of 3,759 articles and other journal contributions from 12 Scopus-indexed journals, using select digital humanities tools and methods, reveals that themes concerning Slovenia’s path to independence, though less frequent overall, exhibit a dynamic pattern of regular occurrence, influenced by commemorations and special issues of journals. This suggests growing scholarly interest over time. The analysis identified four key thematic groups: Socio-cultural, Political, Religious, and Yugoslavia themes. Furthermore, metadata analysis indicates a balanced distribution of male and female first authors and equitable thematic accessibility across publication languages. These findings contribute to a nuanced understanding of how Slovenian Scopus-indexed history journals engage with this critical topic. 9. A New Rock Art Area in Anatolia : Hekimdere Rock DepictionsOkay Pekşen, Yasin Topaloğlu, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: With the permission and support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, we conducted surveys for the first time in Rize. These surveys identified highly important rock depictions. Until now, depictions on rock made using painting methods have not been encountered in the Black Sea region. Painted rock arts are quite rare in Anatolia. The Hekimdere petroglyphs hold great significance for Anatolian history, as they represent a first in the region. The objective of this study is to provide a detailed introduction to the Hekimdere rock depictions, showcasing their similarities to Anatolian, Caucasian and Asian petroglyphs. 10. Women, foreigners in their urban communities?Veronika Kos, ni določena Povzetek: Much like elsewhere, terms such as the Latin forensis and its German equivalents in mediaeval and early modern sources in the area of today’s Slovenia refer to a broad variety of individuals and social groups. From residents of neighbouring towns and all others from the near or distant surroundings, particularly during the early phase of their integration within a specific urban settlement, to individuals who formed a constant migration or business flow of passers-by, such as intellectuals, artisans, pilgrims, merchants, artists, as well as members of marginalised groups (e.g. beggars and vagrants). Individuals from different socioeconomic, religious, or social backgrounds who lived in cities also had a quality of ‘strangeness’ attached to them (e.g. Jews), although their contemporaries never explicitly called them strangers. Studies that have focused on the urban experiences of women in pre-modern cities have also drawn attention to the relative strangeness of women in cities compared to male citizens. While normative sources generally do not treat women in pre-modern European cities as foreigners, their lives may have been somewhat similar to those of foreigners and other (established) city dwellers who were associated with a particular kind of foreignness because of the relative restrictions or exclusions imposed by law, religion, science etc. This paper deals with the status of urban women during the transition from the Late Middle Ages to the early modern period, with a special emphasis on the region between the Upper Adriatic and the Eastern Alps. With an analysis of the urban statutes of the coastal communes (Izola, Koper, and Piran) and the mainland Ptuj, as well as other relevant materials, attention will be paid to the research question: How useful is it to think about women as foreigners in their urban communities? Ključne besede: history of women, foreigners, middle ages, early modern period Objavljeno v DiRROS: 01.07.2026; Ogledov: 111; Prenosov: 101
