2. Origins of architectural heritage: the resources and variety of natural stones in SloveniaSabina Dolenec, Nina Žbona, Boštjan Rožič, Mojca Bedjanič, Snježana Miletić, Matevž Novak, Ana Mladenovič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The distinct geological variation of Slovene’s territory, which includes all three major types of natural stone (sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic), offers an ample selection of building and art materials to be chosen based on their properties and/or aesthetic appearance. The tectonic diversity of the area caused some difficulties in extracting some of the natural stones, resulting in quarries being abandoned for economic and spatial reasons, but some beautiful examples of the use of lasting value in both construction and art still persist. Examples include the abandoned quarries of Pohorje marble and Podpeč limestone, where extraction has been documented from as early as the Roman times, with the latter also designated as a Global Heritage Stone Resource. The Pohorje mountains are an area of granodiorite as well as green cizlakite, the latter being Slovenian endemic. Furthermore, the Kras (Karst) region is one of the most interesting areas containing natural stone reserves in Slovenia, with a large variety of Cretaceous shallow-water limestones. All of these are abandoned, with the two natural stone quarries still operating being associated with the presence of rudist biostromes and bioherms, which are responsible for the aesthetic appearance of these natural stones. It is also characteristic of Slovenia to use a variety of local rocks, such as sandstone, conglomerate, breccia, shale and tuff, to give character to vernacular architecture. Some of the quarries are designated and protected as valuable natural features or natural monument, while several buildings decorated with Slovene natural stones are declared as cultural monuments of local or national importance or included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This paper presents the most significant Slovene quarries of natural stones that have been used in architectural heritage, the mineralogical and physical-mechanical characteristics of these stones, as well as examples of their use in monuments. 3. Kakovost vode v izbranih vodnih virih na širšem območju Velike planineMatej Zabret, 2026, strokovni članek Povzetek: Velika planina velja za priljubljeno turistično območje, znano po gorski naravi in planinskem pašništvu. Njena obiskanost lahko zaradi občutljive kraške pokrajine vpliva na kakovost vodnih virov, kar so pokazale predhodne raziskave, ki so dokazale povišane vrednosti nekaterih fizikalno-kemijskih in mikrobioloških parametrov. Z našimi meritvami smo dokazali obremenjenost stoječih in tekočih vodnih virov na širšem območju velikoplaninske planote, na kar vpliva več dejavnikov. Za pripravo možnih ukrepov priporočamo vzpostavitev dolgoročnega in ciljno usmerjenega monitoringa. Medletna variabilnost značilnosti lesa in floema vrst, ki sobivajo : Fraxinus ornus, Quercus pubescens in Ostrya carpinifoliaJožica Gričar, Klemen Eler, Saša Ogorevc, Debojit Chanda, Sarkiri Kro, Mohendra Thapa, Polona Hafner, Peter Prislan, 2026, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci Povzetek: Anatomija lesa in floema drevesnih vrst, ki sobivajo, ponuja dragocene informacije o tem, kako se različne drevesne vrste soočajo s podnebnimi spremembami in prilagajajo strukturo prevodnih tkiv lokalnim vremenskim razmeram. V obdobju 2019–2021 smo proučili in primerjali širino letnih prirastkov lesa in floema in velikosti prevodnih elementov ranega lesa in ranega floema pri listavcih, ki sobivajo na Podgorskem krasu: mali jesen (Fraxinus ornus), puhasti hrast (Quercus pubescens) in črni gaber (Ostrya carpinifolia). Ugotovili smo, da analizirane spremenljivke lesa in floema pri preučevanih drevesnih vrstah kažejo različne sezonske trende glede na lokalne vremenske razmere. Med vrstami so bile v vseh letih opažene statistično značilne razlike v velikostih prevodnih elementov lesa in floema, kar kaže na velike razlike v izračunani hidravlični prevodnosti med drevesnimi vrstami. Visoka medletna variabilnost in vrstno specifična občutljivost ksilema in floema na padavine in temperaturo potrjujeta visoko plastičnost in različne strategije debelinske rasti preučevanih drevesnih vrst, ki zagotavljajo optimalno delovanje v lokalnih vremenskih razmerah. 7. Enhanced autosuccession after wildfire in a transitional sub-Mediterranean forest ecosystem: evidence from the Kras Plateau (Slovenia)Andraž Čarni, Mateja Breg Valjavec, Lucia Čahojová, Aljaž Jakob, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Wildfires are becoming an increasingly prevalent phenomenon in sub-Mediterranean regions, including areas where the vegetation is not historically adapted to fire. However, post-fire successional dynamics in these regions remain poorly documented. Vegetation was monitored annually for three years (2023–2025) following a major wildfire on the Kras Plateau (SW Slovenia) in 2022. Monitoring was conducted in 50 permanent plots assigned to five fire-severity classes, including unburned control plots (class 0) and four burned classes (classes 1, 2a, 2b, and 3). We analyzed species composition, vegetation structure, ecological indicator values, species origin and habitat preference, and plant functional traits using ordination and trait-based approaches. Post-fire succession followed an initial floristic composition model and an enhanced autosuccessional pathway across all fire-severity classes. The early dominance of ephemeral and ruderal species declined rapidly, while the abundance of perennial grasses, shrubs, and resprouting woody species increased. Functional traits shifted along the C–R axis of Grime’s CSR strategy framework: from ruderal towards competitive and stress-tolerant, and successional trajectories consistently converged towards zonal thermophilous deciduous forest communities. High amounts of precipitation facilitated rapid structural recovery, with shrubland developing within three years. Sub-Mediterranean forest vegetation on the Kras Plateau exhibits high resilience to wildfire, despite limited historical adaptation to fire. Enhanced autosuccession, combined with favorable post-fire moisture conditions, enables rapid recovery and reduces the likelihood of long-term degradation or the establishment of persistent post-fire shrublands. 8. Ohranjanje narave v kmetijski praksi – ovira, nuja ali priložnost?Mateja Slovenc Grasselli, Ana Novak, Tanja Šumrada, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Prispevek analizira predstave kmetov s Krasa in Ljubljanskega barja o »dobrem kmetu« in »dobri krajini« z namenom boljšega razumevanja njihovega odnosa do varstva narave v kmetijstvu. Sogovorniki so visoko vrednotili naravno in kulturno dediščino prostora, ki se ohranja predvsem z ekstenzivnimi praksami, a je za večino ideal predstavljalo intenzivno kmetijstvo. Sebe so prepoznavali kot skrbnike narave, vendar bolj v kontekstu ohranjanja narave, primerne za dolgoročno in ekonomsko uspešno kmetijsko pridelavo, redkeje pa za varstvo prostoživečih rastlinskih in živalskih vrst.
