1. The repatriation of Italian prisoners of war from Yugoslavia after the second world war, 1945-7Urška Lampe, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Despite the issue of Italian prisoners of war during the Second World War receiving some significant attention, the fate of those prisoners held by the Yugoslav state has not yet been thoroughly examined. This is largely a consequence of the lack of sources, which is also why this issue has been treated superficially in the literature. The present article aims to fill this gap, focusing in particular on the repatriation of Italian prisoners of war held in Yugoslavia after the Second World War. Employing material from archives in the UK, Italy, Serbia, Slovenia and Switzerland, the author will reconstruct the process of repatriation by delving into international diplomatic circumstances and Italo-Yugoslav relations, as well as the political and ideological dynamics which affected the fate of those prisoners. The study will also provide a count of the number of Italian prisoners of war in Yugoslavia, which up to this point has been unclear. 3. A decade of decadence, or ten years that shook the world : the Adriatic borderland, 1914–1924Borut Klabjan, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This Special Issue on the Decade of Decadence focuses on the northern Adriatic transnational borderland from the beginning of the First World War in July 1914 to the Treaty of Rome in January 1924 when the city of Rijeka/Fiume was annexed by Italy and the Adriatic question was temporarily settled. As several recent studies have shown this decade is of fundamental importance at the global level and the northern Adriatic in these years represents a unique laboratory for studying the transformations of Europe in the twentieth century. Seen in these perspectives, these articles show how concepts of loyalty, sovereignty, nationality and citizenship did not conform to a linear process of nationbuilding but instead open new perspectives on Italian and Euro-Mediterranean politics, culture and societies before and after the First World War. 5. Twinning across the Adriatic : history, memory and municipal co-operation between Italy and Yugoslavia during the Cold WarBorut Klabjan, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The heritage of World War II left an indelible mark on the relations between Italy and Yugoslavia. During the détente period, however, these two countries were able to overcome many historical resentments and established a fruitful co-operation in Cold War Europe. This article questions the engagement on state, regional and municipal levels and analyses the role of twin cities in this multilayered process. With the help of primary sources, we learn how the heritage of World War II played an important role in building new forms of post-war co-operation. In fact, post-war twinning is often the result of shared anti-fascist activities from the war years. However, this is not confined to communist municipalities or ‘red’ regions in Italy on one side, and socialist Yugoslavia on the other, but is a more fluid and flexible practice which involves historical ties, geographical positions, personal capacities and economic needs. 6. How well did the healthcare system respond to the healthcare needs of older people with and without dementia during the COVID-19 pandemic : the perception of healthcare providers and older people from the SI4CARE Project in the ADRION RegionStella Fragkiadaki, Dionysia Kontaxopolou, Darja Šemrov, Simon Colnar, Mitja Luštrek, Bojan Blažica, Vlado Dimovski, Sokratis G. Papageorgiou, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: One major challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic was the limited accessibility to healthcare facilities, especially for the older population. The aim of the current study was the exploration of the extent to which the healthcare systems responded to the healthcare needs of the older people with or without cognitive impairment and their caregivers in the Adrion/Ionian region. Data were collected through e-questionnaires regarding the adequacy of the healthcare system and were anonymously administered to older individuals and stakeholder providers in the following countries: Slovenia, Italy (Calabria), Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Montenegro, and Serbia. Overall, 722 older people and 267 healthcare stakeholders participated in the study. During the COVID-19 pandemic, both healthcare stakeholders and the older population claimed that the healthcare needs of the older people and their caregivers increased dramatically in all countries, especially in Italy (Calabria), Croatia and BiH. According to our results, countries from the Adrion/Ionian regions faced significant challenges to adjust to the special needs of the older people during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was possibly due to limited accessibility opportunities to healthcare facilities. These results highlight the need for the development of alternative ways of providing medical assistance and supervision when in-person care is not possible.
