Country report - Slovenia : Deliverable D5.4 1 country reportSandra Končan, Mateja Sedmak, Zorana Medarić, Ksenija Perković, Barbara Gornik, 2025, končno poročilo o rezultatih raziskav Povzetek: The objective of WP3 was to design a programme of activities tailored to each local context and the needs of 30 migrant women participants and to implement the programme during a six-month period to conclude which practices have a potential of sustainability and can contribute to migrant women’s integration. The developed Activity Cluster programme consists of three clusters: Upskilling, Awareness-raising, and Social. In each cluster, several sub-activities were designed, covering various topics related to work, education, awareness of rights and duties and social interaction in the local environment. After the implementation of the programme, it was concluded which activities were the most successful and what could be adapted to improve local integration of migrant women.

2. Overlooked intersection of gender and racial/ethnic dimensions in Slovenian academic sexual harassment & violence policiesLucija Dežan, Mateja Sedmak, Zorana Medarić, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This article addresses the need to adopt an intersectional perspective when discussing sexual harassment and violence in academia. The introduction of an intersectional perspective is important since sexual harassment and violence in relation to racial and ethnic minorities seldom revolve exclusively around gender. Recognising the intersectional nature of sexual assault and harassment means also recognising the coexistence of racism and nationalism, the perpetuation of ethnic/racial stereotypes, the multifaceted manifestations of discrimination, and a matrix of domination that exists in our society and educational and research institutions as well. In this article, we analysed official documents of Slovenian higher education and research institutions (public and private ones) with an aim to examine whether and how they address intersectionality and racial/ethnic minorities in their policies combating sexual harassment and violence. The results revealed a significant ignorance towards intersectionality of gender and ethnicity, but also issues arising from accessibility of these policies.

3. Does age matter? : The well-being of migrant children in comparative perspectiveZorana Medarić, Barbara Gornik, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This article explores the subjective perceptions of well-being of migrant children attending primary school (9-14 years) and secondary school (15-18 years) in Slovenia. It focuses on how they conceptualise their fears, worries and concerns, what is important for them to feel accepted and safe, and how they think about their past and the future. Using a comparative perspective, similarities and differences in the experience of well-being of these two age groups of migrants are explored. The analysis is based on open-ended narrative interviews with migrant children and revolves around the question of whether and how age influences their subjective perception of well-being. The article sheds light on age-specific meanings and understandings of migration processes based on the views and experiences of migrant children and youth regarding their well-being, bringing to the fore the perspectives of children that are often missing or underrepresented in integration policy.

5. What about the family? : the role and meaning of family in the integration of migrant childrenZorana Medarić, Barbara Gornik, Mateja Sedmak, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Based on field research in Slovenian schools, the article examines the role of the family in the integration process of migrant children. While migrant children perceive the family as the most important factor influencing their overall well-being and life satisfaction, research shows that parents of migrant children are often not involved in school activities and life. The article explores how the role of parents in the integration process of migrant children in the school environment is understood at the policy level and how it is perceived by migrant children and the educational community. It also explores what are the main barriers to the involvement of migrant parents in schools and what are the existing practices and experiences in Slovenian schools. The analysis is based on qualitative research in Slovenian schools with children and the educational community conducted as part of the Migrant Children and Communities in a Transforming Europe (MiCREATE) project.

8. Lake Balaton as an accessible tourism destination : the stakeholders` perspectivesZorana Medarić, Judit Sulyok, Szilvia Kardos, Janja Gabruč, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This paper discusses the situation in the emerging field of accessible tourism at the Lake Balaton destination. The main objective of the study was to explore the current situation of accessible tourism at Lake Balaton, focus-ing on the perspectives of tourism stakeholders. Various issues were reflected upon, such as: a) the %general% accessibility of the destination in terms of the current state of accessibility of the destination as well as the ac-cessibility of information, transportation, accommodation, food and beverage services, tourist attractions, funds and know-how; b) factors that make the destination Lake Balaton competitive as an accessible destination; and c) general attitudes of tourism stakeholders towards accessible tourism. The research focus was on the destina-tion itself, not on individual attractions or tourism service providers. In order to assess the current situation and future prospects for accessible tourism at Lake Balaton, an exploratory quantitative online survey among stakeholders was conducted between 5 September and 5 October 2020. A total of 39 stakeholders participated in the survey, including 11 local municipality stakeholders, 8 local destination management organisations, and 20 tourism service providers (accommodation, catering or attractions/sights). The results show that the Lake Balaton destination accessibility is currently at an early stage of development and tends to target groups with low accessibility needs. Among the factors of destination competitiveness for the accessible tourism market, supportive factors (e.g. accessibility, infrastructure, and the commitment of stakeholders) are ranked first, fol-lowed by resources and attractions (landscape, climate, activities, culture, history, tourism service providers, and events) and the quality factor (including value for money, safety, perception and image). Planning and management (including positioning and branding) is the lowest ranked factor even though such aspects are critical factors and foundations for the development of accessible tourism.
