Cardiovascular disease in children with marfan syndrome
Andrej Robida, 1987, original scientific article

Abstract: To study the cardiovascular changes in children with Marfan syndrome the hospital records of 27 children with this syndrome admitted to our institution between 1975 and 1984 were reviewed. Echocardiographic examinationwas done in all of them. Heart catheterization and angiocardiography were performed in 7 children. 15 children were without cardiovascular involvement (mean age 7.9 years). Twelve children with cardiovascular abnormalities (mean age 12.3 years) were significantly older than children without cardiovascular disease (P<0.02). The most frequrnt cardiovascular abnormality (9 children) was mitral valve diseas (mitral regurgitation, mitral valve prolapse with and without regurgitation). In one patient artificial mitral valve was inserted. Aortic root aneurysm was found in 7 children, in some of them in combination with mitral valve disease. Fusiform aneurysm of thoracic aorta together with aortic root aneurysm was present in one child. In 2 patients tetralogy of Fallot was diagnosed. This review shows that the cardiovascular system is more frequently affected in older children and that about half of the children suffer from cardiovascular disease. Mitral valve involvement predominates. Surgery for the correction of the cardiovascular abnormalities in children with Marfan syndrome is seldom required.

Complications in cardiac catheterization and angiocardiography in infants and children
Andrej Robida, 1987, original scientific article

Abstract: Complications of cardiac catheterization and angiocardiography were reviewed retrospectively in 1074 neonates, infants, and children studied from 1st January 1981 to 31st December 1985. Overall complication rate was 5.2% (56 complications in 54 children). There were 3 cases of complications was 3.8% and was higher in infants younger than 4 months (P<0.001), and in moderalety and critically ill patients than in asymptomatic and mildly ill patients (P<0.001). The highest proportion of major complications occured in patients with truncus arteriosus communis, double outlet right ventricle, atrioventricular septal defect, univentricular heart, transposition of the great arteries, and tetralogy of fallot. Arrhythmias were encountered in 66.1%of all major and minor complications. In minor complications the differences in frequency were not found beteen various age and clinical groups (P>0.05). The study showed that higher catheterization risk of major complications could be predicted from the age, clinical status, and heart defect of the patient.

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of an aortic recoarctation : case report
Dušan Pavčnik, Andrej Robida, 1987, original scientific article

Abstract: Two cases of successful dilatation of recoarctation of the aorta due to a subclavien turndown operation are reported. In both cases Grüntzig technique was used. The first patient, aged 10 months, had the gradient rediced from 40 mm Hg to 10 mm Hg. The second, aged 1 year, had the gradient reduced from 80 mm Hg to 30 mm Hg. In the second patient right femoral pulse disapeared after procedure and surgery (thrombarteriectomy) was performed.

Truncus arteriosus - angiokardiografski prikaz
Andrej Robida, Darja Fettich, Dimitrij Bartenjev, Nedeljko Krevs, 1984, original scientific article

Abstract: Opisali smo angiokardiografsko diagnostiko trunkusa arteriozusa komunisa (TAC)pri dvanajstih otrocih. Ker je možno paliativno in korektivno kirurško zdravljenje, moramo poleg hemodinamike TAC prikazati tip trunkusa, položaj defekta v septumu prekatov, lego arkusa, regurgitacijo skopzi trunkusno zaklopko, anatomijo pljučnih arterij in dodatne anomalije. Pri dveh otrocih smo našli dekstrokardijo, pri vseh situs solitus atrijev in samo pri enem diskordantno atrioventrikularno povezavo. Atrioventrikularni zaklopki sta bilipri vseh perforirani. 3 otroci so imeli univentrikularno srce nedoločljivega tipa.

Effects of the temperature on the pore evolution during sintering of the belite-sulfoaluminate cement clinker using x-ray computed microtomography
Sabina Dolenec, Lidija Korat, Maruša Mrak, Andrej Ipavec, Lea Žibret, 2020, original scientific article

Abstract: In this paper, the effects of the sintering temperature on the pore evolution of the belite-sulfoaluminate cement clinker were evaluated. Belite-sulfoaluminate cement clinker with a targeted composition of 65 w/% b-belite, 20 w/% calcium sulfoaluminate and 10 w/% ferrite was sintered at three different temperatures: 1200 °C, 1250 °C and 1300 °C. To quantitatively evaluate the pore evolution during sintering, a 3D microstructure reconstruction by micro-CT was used. From the data, the pore volume frac- tion and pore number were extracted and compared, and the pore size distribution with the sintering temperature was obtained as well. Additionally, the pore shape and distribution were displayed in 3D based on actual microstructure data. Clinker samples were also characterized by Hg-intrusion porosimetry and gas sorption. The changes in the pore evolution occurred to a larger extent when sintering at 1300 °C. Apart from a significant porosity decrease, pore coarsening was evident at this temperature, reducing their connectivity and shrinkage of the clinker. Simultaneously, the bulk and apparent densities increased with the temperature due to densification, while the BET surface area of the studied clinkers decreased, indicating the rounding of pores and particle coalescence with an increasing grain growth.
