Percutaneous transcatheter arterial embolization in haemodynamically stable patients with blunt splenic injury
Peter Popović, Dragoje Stanisavljević, Miran Jeromel, 2010, original scientific article

Abstract: Background. The nonoperative management of the blunt splenic injuryand the patient was treated with the selective distal splenic artery embolization withmicrospheres. Postprocedural insupraselective embolization with microspheres. haemodynamically stableultrasound and computed tomography follow-up a year later revealed only a small area of parenchymal irregularity. patients hasCase report. A young hockey player was brought to the Emergency Conclusions. The percutaneous splenic arterial embolization has a major role in the management of traumatic Department with the history of blunt abdominalsplenic injuries. Embolization is particularly beneficial in injuries of grade III or higher.

Resonance graphs and a binary coding of perfect matchings of outerplane bipartite graphs
Simon Brezovnik, Niko Tratnik, Petra Žigert Pleteršek, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate resonance graphs of $2$-connected outerplane bipartite graphs, which include various families of molecular graphs. Firstly, we present an algorithm for a binary coding of perfect matchings of these graphs. Further, $2$-connected outerplane bipartite graphs with isomorphic resonance graphs are considered. In particular, it is shown that if two $2$-connected outerplane bipartite graphs are evenly homeomorphic, then its resonance graphs are isomorphic. Moreover, we prove that for any $2$-connected outerplane bipartite graph $G$ there exists a catacondensed even ring systems $H$ such that the resonance graphs of $G$ and $H$ are isomorphic. We conclude with the characterization of $2$-connected outerplane bipartite graphs whose resonance graphs are daisy cubes.

Zhang-Zhang polynomials of phenylenes and benzenoid graphs
Niko Tratnik, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to study some variations of the Zhang-Zhang polynomial for phenylenes, which can be obtained as special cases of the multivariable Zhang-Zhang polynomial. Firstly, we prove the equality between the first Zhang-Zhang polynomial of a phenylene and the generalized Zhang-Zhang polynomial of some benzenoid graph, which enables us to prove also the equality between the first Zhang-Zhang polynomial and the generalized cube polynomial of the resonance graph. Next, some results on the roots of the second Zhang-Zhang polynomial of phenylenes are provided and another expression for this polynomial is established. Finally, we give structural interpretation for (partial) derivatives of different Zhang-Zhang polynomials.

The challenge of integrating Life Cycle Assessment in the building design process - a systematic literature review of BIM-LCA workflows
Tajda Potrč Obrecht, Martin Röck, Endrit Hoxha, Alexander Passer, 2019, published scientific conference contribution

Abstract: To foster sustainable development in construction sectors, environmental impacts need to be reduced dramatically. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) technique is the most firmly established methodology used to quantify these environmental impacts and, therefore, has been applied with increasing frequency to assess the environmental performance of buildings. To effectively improve a building's environmental performance, an integration of LCA in the design process is required. This can be achieved by coupling LCA with digital design tools, e.g., Building Information Modelling (BIM). To identify the pro and cons of streamlining the integration of LCA and BIM, a comprehensive Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was performed. We identified more than 50 relevant BIM-LCA case studies and analysed the applied BIM-LCA workflows in detail. In most of the studies reviewed, the LCA has been applied in an early design stage. The authors primarily used LCA tools and manual or semi-automatic methods to exchange data between BIM models. In most cases, contemporary BIM-LCA workflows utilized conventional spreadsheets (e.g., Excel worksheets). However, the results of the analysis show that an automated link between LCA and BIM can be achieved if certain challenges are overcome. By automating exchange of information between BIM and LCA tools and improving the reliability of this process, the LCA application can be streamlined in design practice and, hence, the necessary improvements of the environmental performance of buildings can be supported.

Lymphedema following cancer therapy in Slovenia : a frequently overlooked condition?
Tanja Planinšek Ručigaj, Nada Kecelj, Vesna Tlaker Žunter, 2010, original scientific article

Abstract: Introduction. Secondary lymphedema following cancer therapy is a frequent, often painful, quality of life disturbing condition, reducing the patients' mobility and predisposing them to complications, e.g. infections and malignancies. The critical aspect of lymphedema therapy is to start as soon aspossible to prevent the irreversible tissue damage. Patients and methods. Weperformed a retrospective study of patients with lymphedema, treated at the Department of Dermatovenereology, University Medical Center Ljubljana, from January 2002 to June 2010. The patientsć demographic and medical data were collected, including type of cancer, type and stage of lymphedema, and time tofirst therapy of lymphedema. The number of referred patients with lymphedema following the therapy of melanoma, breast cancer, and uterine/cervical cancer, was compared to the number of patients expected to experience lymphedema following cancer therapy, calculated from the incidence reported in the literature. Results. In the period of 8.5 years, 543 patients (432 females, 112 males) with lymphedema were treated. The results show that probably many Slovenian patients with secondary lymphedema following cancer therapy remain unrecognized and untreated or undertreated. In the majority of our patients, the management of lymphedema was delayedč on average, the patients first received therapy for lymphedema 3.6 years after the first signsof lymphedema. Conclusions. To avoid a delay in diagnosis and therapy, and the complications of lymphedema following cancer therapy, the physician should actively look for signs or symptoms of lymphedema during the follow-up period, and promptly manage or refer the patients developing problems.

Globalization of partial actions of semigroups
Ganna Kudryavtseva, Valdis Laan, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: We propose two universal constructions of globalization of a partial action of a semigroup on a set, satisfying certain conditions which arise in Morita theory of semigroups. One of the constructions is based on the tensor product of a partial semigroup act with the semigroup and generalizes the globalization construction of strong partial actions of monoids due to Megrelishvili and Schröder. It produces the initial object in an appropriate category of globalizations of a given partial action. The other construction involves Hom-sets and is novel even in the monoid setting. It produces the terminal object in an appropriate category of globalizations. While in the group case the results of the two constructions are isomorphic, they can be far different in the monoid case.

Urine and bladder washing cytology for detection of urothelial carcinoma : standard test with new possibilities
Margareta Strojan Fležar, 2010, review article

Abstract: Background. Light microscopic evaluation of cell morphology in preparations from urine or bladder washing containing exfoliated cells is a standard and primary method for the detection of bladder cancer and also malignancy from other parts of the urinary tract. The cytopathologic examination is a valuablemethod to detect an early recurrence of malignancy or new primary carcinoma during the follow-up of patients after the treatment of bladder cancer. Conclusions. Characteristic cellular and nuclear signs of malignancy indicate invasive or in situ urothelial carcinoma or high-grade papillary urothelial carcinoma. However, low sensitivity of the method reflects the unreliable cytopathologic diagnosis of low-grade urothelial neoplasms as cellular and nuclear signs of malignancy in these neoplasms are poorly manifested. Many different markers were developed to improve the diagnosis of bladder carcinoma on urinary samples. UroVysionT test is among the newest and most promising tests. By the method of in situ hybridization one can detect specific cytogenetic changes of urothelial carcinoma.
