1. Enigma M4 from the German minesweeper R15 in the upper Adriatic : high-resolution microCT investigation of the last settingsAndrej Gaspari, Miha Hren, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This article presents the results of microtomographic analysis of the rotor block of an Enigma machine M4 recovered from the wreck of the German minesweeper R15 in the upper Adriatic Sea (sunk on 16 April 1945). The device (serial number M 15648) was examined using visual inspection and MicroCT. Initial analysis enabled identification of the rotor sequence (Walzenlage) and external wheel positions, while higher-resolution scanning revealed internal rotor settings (Ringstellung). Based on the place and time of the sinking of the R15, it is plausible that the operators of M 15648 used the naval key Hermes within the code network Sud. 3. Refugee children in serbia during the Second World WarMaja Nikolova, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Taking care of the refugees who came to Serbia during the Second World War required great efforts from both the state apparatus and the entire nation. Children who arrived in Serbia with parents who were unable to take care of them, as well as those without parental care, were a special problem. Serbian refugee homes were organized for these children, and some of them were cared for by Serbian urban and rural families. Young people of school age attended classes in Serbian schools, or in special classes formed at refugee homes. The state took care of their survival, food, clothing and health. 4. Deportation of Slovenes to Serbia During the Second World WarMaja Nikolova, 2024, pregledni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Did this have to happen? To make Lower Styria, Carinthia, and Carniola German again, Hitler organized the deportation of racially unclean and politically suspicious elements in May 1941. The goal was to emigrate the entire Slovenian intelligentsia, as well as those who had signs of someone else's blood. About 6,500 Slovenes and maybe more, were deported by train in three groups to Serbia. Refugee centres have been set up in almost every city or town. The Serbian population received them nicely, but the lack of food, beds and material resources for their basic existence made their stay difficult. Although there were many educated people among the deportees, they could not find employment and during the employment, they had to submit a confirmation that no one in the family was Jewish or Roma. The children of the deported Slovenes continued their education in Serbian schools, but during the classes, they had organized Slovene language classes. The difficult years of the war were spent in uncertainty, poverty and a constant desire to return to their homeland. After the end of the Second World War, many Slovenes returned home. That was the end of their forced deportation. Ključne besede: World War II, Slovenes, Serbia, deportation Objavljeno v DiRROS: 05.08.2026; Ogledov: 195; Prenosov: 97

5. A Habsburg Legacy : Sex and Social Politics in Venezia Giulia and Slovenia between the World WarsNancy Meriwether Wingfield, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The governments of the newly formed and expanded states of Habsburg Central Europe began remaking society in formerly imperial spaces following Austria-Hungary’s defeat in 1918. Austria-Hungary’s demise as a geopolitical unit did not mean the disappearance of its administrative and juridical apparatus, some of which functioned well into the interwar era. Because bureaucratic transition did not necessarily parallel political transition, there was often no immediate, dramatic change in the regulation of prostitution—or the treatment of prostitutes and women assumed to be prostitutes—in these states. Some officials/police maintained that prostitution was a “necessary evil,” and sought its continued regulation, while others sought its abolition. This article analyzes continuity and change in the treatment of prostitutes in prewar/wartime Cisleithanian Austria and postwar Venezia Giulia and Slovenia. Neighboring provinces under the Habsburg Monarchy, Italy occupied the former in late 1918, while the latter became part of Yugoslavia. 6. From freedom fighters to imperialistic agents : Slovenian members of the French Foreign Legion during the Second World War and in Post-War YugoslaviaKlemen Kocjančič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This article deals with Slovenians who fought in the ranks of the French Foreign Legion during the Second World War. While some of them joined the Legion in years immediately before the outbreak of the Second World War (or at least the German invasion of France), most of them became legionnaires after the 1940 invasion. In fact, the largest group of Slovenians were previously mobilized in Italian or German armed forces and then deserted to the Legion during the war or joined it from prisoner-of-war camps. With the end of the war, some stayed in the Legion, while most of them returned to their homeland, where some faced persecution from the communist regime. 7. A Romantic Fairy Tale and Its Social Purpose in Times of War : The Woman without a Shadow by Hugo von HofmannsthalCristina Fossaluzza, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The Woman without a Shadow is both the title of an opera resulting from the collaboration between Hugo von Hofmannsthal and the composer Richard Strauss in the three years immediately preceding the outbreak of the First World War, and that of a fairy tale in which the writer, from 1912 to 1919, reworked the subject of the libretto. With a specific focus on the second version, this essay sets out to describe how, beyond the complex symbolism of the formal structure (which initially makes one think of an artistic product finely crafted, but completely unrelated to historical reality), Hofmannsthal’s fairy tale is actually intimately connected to the cultural and ‘social’ project developed by the author during the years of the First World War. It was this project that gave rise to the veritable ‘mythology of the social’ that lies at the heart of this fairy tale, in which Hofmannsthal revisits the very cornerstones of Romantic aesthetics and gives them a modern twist. 8. A Contribution to the Role of (Former) Red Army Prisoners of War and White Emigrés in Slovenia during the German Occupation, 1943–1945Klemen Kocjančič, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The article examines the role of Soviet prisoners of war and Russian émigrés that fought in Slovenia during World War II. The largest group consisted of Red Army soldiers who switched allegiances after being captured and agreed to fight for the Third Reich. They were joined by White émigrés who remained hostile to communism. But some émigrés and Soviets joined Slovenian partisans in the struggle against the occupiers, with most of them previously serving in Germanled formations. Based on archival documents and published sources, the author provides an overview of such units and studies their impact. 10. Enigma M4 Cipher Machine from the Wreck of the German Minesweeper R 15 near UmagAndrej Gaspari, Danijel Germek, Aleš Jelinčič, Miha Hren, Lidija Korat Bensa, Danijel Frka, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: In 1984–1986, Zvonimir Kralj, diver and keeper of the Piran Aquarium, recovered the Enigma cipher machine with codebook and several other items from the wreck of the German minesweeper R 15 sunk off the west coast of Istria between Savudrija and Umag. The article describes and defines the device and outlines the technical characteristics of the minesweeper of the 6th Minesweeper Flotilla (6. Räumbootsflottille) of the German Kriegsmarine, which was hit by the British torpedo boat MTB 409 on the night of April 16–17 1945, and sank about 3 nautical miles northwest of Umag. An examination of the preserved parts of the cipher machine revealed that it was a naval Enigma M4 with four rotors and a reflector C. An X-ray microtomography showed the serial number of the machine M 15648 and the last configuration, left to right: C/γ (Gamma), III, VI, IV. The external position of the Gamma rotor (»P«) indicates that the Enigma was not set in a mode compatible with the M3 model, which corresponds to the cipher keys for the last two months of the war.
