1. The Diversity of Moths (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) of Significant Landscape Donji Kamenjak and Medulin Archipelago, Istria, CroatiaToni Koren, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The moth diversity of Significant landscape Donji Kamenjak and Medulin archipelago was surveyed during 2021. Together with the data collected in several field trips in previous years, 446 species of moths have been recorded in the area so far. Many of the recorded species belong to the seldomly recorded moth species in Croatia and some represent only the second or third finding for the country while for several species have been recorded in Istria peninsula for the first time. One species, Eupithecia ultimaria Boisduval, 1840 is reported as new to the fauna of Croatia. Three main threats were established for the moth diversity, natural succession due to the lack of regular grazing, a large network of paths and roads leading to the habitat phragmentation and the high pressure of the vehicles in summer months resulting in the rise of the carbonate dust from the macadam roads on surrounding grasslands and vegetation. 2. First record of Pammene blockiana (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) in RussiaMargarita G. Kovalenko, Julia A. Lovtsova, E.N. Akulov, A. V. Shipulin, S.V. Nedoshivina, Stanislav Gomboc, Natalia N. Karpun, Natalia I. Kirichenko, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The study reports the first record of the tortricid moth Pammene blockiana from Russia. Its males were captured in Sochi in May 2025 in pheromone traps baited with the synthetic sex pheromone of the quarantine pest, the Oriental fruit moth Grapholita molesta. A total of 48 males of P. blockiana were collected from seven traps deployed in gardens and ornamental tree plantings in Sochi. The species was identified based on morphology (forewing pattern and genitalia) and DNA barcoding. The specimens from Sochi showed low genetic variability (0.2 % among three males from three sites) and clustered with individuals from Greece, with a maximum genetic distance of 1.4 %. In DNA-barcoding fragment, Pammene oxycedrana was the closest to P. blockiana, with a minimum genetic distance of 5.4 %, followed by Pammene juniperana (7.1 %). Regular catches in the pheromone traps suggest that P. blockiana is established and potentially abundant in Sochi. As its larvae damage cones of Cupressus and Juniperus, the species may represent a potential threat to Cupressaceae in man-made plantings and nature along the Black Sea coast. New data on the species distribution and the photographs of moth and male genitalia of P. blockiana, as well as the photographs of the related moth species are provided. The species diagnosis is given to distinguish P. blockiana from closely related species associated with Cupressaceae in Europe. Possible ecological consequences and the risk of further spread of P. blockiana are discussed Ključne besede: new record, tortricid moth, Cupressus, Juniperus, pheromone trapping, DNA barcoding, Back Sea coast of Russia Objavljeno v DiRROS: 16.06.2026; Ogledov: 297; Prenosov: 206

3. Worldwide tests of generic attractants, a promising tool for early detection of non-native cerambycid speciesAlain Roques, Lili Ren, Davide Rassati, Juan Shi, Evgueni Akulov, Neil Audsley, Marie-Anne Auger-Rozenberg, Dimitrios N. Avtzis, Andrea Battisti, Richard Bellanger, Natalia I. Kirichenko, Alenka Žunič Kosi, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: A large proportion of the insects which have invaded new regions and countries are emerging species, being found for the first time outside their native range. Being able to detect such species upon arrival at ports of entry before they establish in non-native countries is an urgent challenge. The deployment of traps baited with broad-spectrum semiochemical lures at ports-of-entry and other high-risk sites could be one such early detection tool. Rapid progress in the identification of semiochemicals for cerambycid beetles during the last 15 years has revealed that aggregation-sex pheromones and sex pheromones are often conserved at global levels for genera, tribes or subfamilies of the Cerambycidae. This possibly allows the development of generic attractants which attract multiple species simultaneously, especially when such pheromones are combined into blends. Here, we present the results of a worldwide field trial programme conducted during 2018–2021, using traps baited with a standardised 8-pheromone blend, usually complemented with plant volatiles. A total of 1308 traps were deployed at 302 sites covering simultaneously or sequentially 13 European countries, 10 Chinese provinces and some regions of the USA, Canada, Australia, Russia (Siberia) and the Caribbean (Martinique). We intended to test the following hypotheses: 1) if a species is regularly trapped in significant numbers by the blend on a continent, it increases the probability that it can be detected when it arrives in other countries/continents and 2) if the blend exerts an effective, generic attraction to multiple species, it is likely that previously unknown and unexpected species can be captured due to the high degree of conservation of pheromone structures within related taxa. A total of 78,321 longhorned beetles were trapped, representing 376 species from eight subfamilies, with 84 species captured in numbers greater than 50 individuals. Captures comprised 60 tribes, with 10 tribes including more than nine species trapped on different continents. Some invasive species were captured in both the native and invaded continents. This demonstrates the potential of multipheromone lures as effective tools for the detection of ‘unexpected’ cerambycid invaders, accidentally translocated outside their native ranges. Adding new pheromones with analogous well-conserved motifs is discussed, as well as the limitations of using such blends, especially for some cerambycid taxa which may be more attracted by the trap colour or other characteristics rather than to the chemical blend. 4. Scandium and aluminum substitution and energy transfer processes in the undoped and Ce-doped ▫$Y_{3}Sc_{x}Al_{5−x}O_{12}$▫ scintillation crystalsValentin V. Laguta, J. Pejchal, Andraž Rešetič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The structural and scintillation properties of pure and Ce-doped Y3ScAl5−O12 (=0, 0.05, 1.16, and 2) crystals were systematically investigated. High-resolution 45 Sc and 27 Al magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy revealed that Sc3+ ions predominantly occupy octahedral sites, effectively replacing Al3+ ions, while antisite Sc at Y dodecahedral positions remains below 0.2 at.%. Sc incorporation into Y3Al5O12 induces strong exciton emission at 320–324 nm, nearly 10 times higher than that of reference Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO) crystal, even at low Sc concentrations (5 at.%). Ce3+ doping introduces characteristic 51→4 emission at 518 nm, accelerates scintillation decay, and in combination with Mg2+ codoping, promotes the formation of Ce4+ ions that enable a fast radiative de-excitation pathway. Y3Sc2Al3O12: Ce exhibits a maximum scintillation light yield of 80–84% relative to BGO with a mean decay time of 85–110 ns. Thermostimulated liminescence and electron paramagnetic resonance studies indicate that holes are mainly trapped at oxygen ions near Sc ions (O− centers), while electrons are primarily localized at Sc antisite ions near oxygen vacancies (Sc2+–VO centers), affecting scintillation kinetics. Density functional theory calculations confirm that Sc3+ at the dodecahedral site forms a deep electron trap. These results highlight the key role of Sc and Ce in tuning emission, decay dynamics, and defect-mediated processes in Sc-admixed multicomponent garnet scintillators. 5. Data from manuscript : analysis of plant and environmental samples for the quarantine fungus Phyllosticta citricarpa in four European citrus-growing areasPolona Kogovšek, Irene Vloutoglou, Valentino Bergamaschi, Neil Boonham, Maja Ferle, Sara Fišer, Eleni Kalogeropoulou, Andreas Kampletsas, Zala Kogej Zwitter, Athanasia Ligka, Roy Macarthur, Lucia Pirone, Maja Ravnikar, Luca Riccioni, Maria Teresa Valente, Darren Vella, Janja Zajc Žunič, Antonio Vicent, 2026, raziskovalni podatki Povzetek: Phyllosticta citricarpa is the causal agent of citrus black spot (CBS), a disease affecting most citrus species and cultivars, particularly lemons (Citrus limon) and sweet oranges (C. sinensis). The pathogen causes fruit blemishes and premature fruit drop, leading to substantial yield and quality losses. Phyllosticta citricarpa is of global economic importance and is regulated by several citrus-growing countries, including those in the European Union (EU). The aim of this study was to develop a novel approach for early detection of P. citricarpa in environmental samples and to assess the status of P. citricarpa in selected citrus-growing areas of the EU where this species had previously been reported from leaf litter. Between 2018 and 2021, citrus plant material, air and rainwater samples were collected and analysed for the presence of Phyllosticta spp. in orchards in Greece, Italy, and Malta. Molecular analyses using qPCR assays targeting P. citricarpa were employed for the analysis of air and rainwater samples. The performance of the testing protocol was evaluated prior to sample analysis, and 1,000 conidia were determined to be the minimum number of spores required for reliable detection. No CBS symptoms were observed, and no evidence of P. citricarpa was found in collected citrus plant material, air, or rainwater samples. The only Phyllosticta species detected during this study was the endophyte P. capitalensis, isolated from citrus leaf litter in Greece. These findings support the results of official EU surveys, which indicate the current absence of P. citricarpa in the surveyed areas and demonstrate the value of integrating environmental monitoring with molecular diagnostics for plant health surveillance. The methodologies developed here offer a robust framework for early warning and rapid response, supporting efforts to prevent CBS outbreaks in Europe and can be adapted for other fungal pathogens. 6. Hunter-engaged monitoring of the Eurasian lynx during the reinforcement processUrša Fležar, Miha Krofel, Matej Bartol, Rok Černe, Lan Hočevar, Aleksander Trajbarič, Tilen Hvala, Maruša Prostor, Matija Stergar, Malin Aronsson, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Collaborative wildlife monitoring programs involving citizen scientists are an efficient approach for surveying large areas. In Europe, hunters play an important role in wildlife monitoring and act as crucial stakeholders in large carnivore conservation. The Eurasian lynx Lynx lynx, an elusive felid, is a species of conservation concern in Europe. In Slovenia, lynx was exterminated and later reintroduced in 1973, but the population has declined during the past decades. A reinforcement program was initiated in 2017, translocating lynx from the Carpathian population to improve the status of the critically endangered Dinaric population. The reinforcement was coupled with an intensive monitoring program, involving local hunters as key participants. In this study, we show how the collaboration between wildlife managers, researchers and hunters resulted in a robust assessment of the lynx population at a national level for a period of five years. Questionnaires distributed to hunting clubs and chance observations were used to define the expected lynx distribution, and guide the extent of systematic camera trapping surveys, involving between 63 and 101 hunters each year. In southern Slovenia, the core of the lynx population, lynx density doubled during the reinforcement period (from 0.66 to 1.30 lynx/100 km2). In north-western Slovenia where a stepping-stone population in the Alps was established in 2021, the number of lynx increased to seven. Furthermore, all three translocated females reproduced, which represents the first confirmed lynx reproduction in the Slovenian Alps in over 150 years. We discuss the motivation behind the hunters' contribution to the data collection process and the implications of this collaboration. We highlight the importance of maintaining the collaboration and their support for lynx conservation. This study serves as an example for large-scale collaborative monitoring of a recovering population undergoing intensive conservation measures with promising results, involving crucial stakeholders as citizen scientists. 7. Edge and defect effects on charge distribution in collapsed ▫$MoS_2$▫ nanotubesMatjaž Malok, Janez Jelenc, Anja Pogačnik Krajnc, Maja Remškar, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has emerged as a promising material for next-generation electronics and optoelectronic devices. MoS2 nanotubes (NTs) and their collapsed ribbon-like shapes (collapsed NTs) synthesized via chemical vapour transport (CVT) under chemical equilibrium typically exhibit low structural defect densities. However, defects and surface damage can arise during device fabrication or operation, leading to a significant degradation in performance, stability, and operational lifetime. These imperfections also induce hysteresis, which adversely affects the device switching behaviour. While the influence of charge trapping at the MoS2/substrate interfaces, on the MoS2 surface, and at intrinsic defects, such as sulfur vacancies and dangling bonds, on device performance has been extensively studied, MoS2 NTs, with their unique curved morphology, introduce additional charge-trapping mechanisms not observed in planar MoS2 structures. In this work, a combination of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM), Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM), and conductive atomic force microscopy (cAFM) was employed to examine how structural irregularities, including terminated layers, surface-grown flakes or NTs, and highly strained areas, affect charge injection, redistribution, and the resulting effects on electrical characteristics in collapsed NTs. The results reveal that structural defects act as charge traps, scattering centres, and transport barriers, giving rise to a reduced carrier mobility, localized charge accumulation, and spatially inhomogeneous charge distribution. These findings underscore the crucial role of structural and electrical characterization with nanoscale resolution in the design of defecttolerant, high-performance devices based on transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) Ključne besede: nanoscale characterization, structural defects, charge trapping, nanotubes Objavljeno v DiRROS: 26.11.2025; Ogledov: 962; Prenosov: 206
