1. Factors influencing the groundwater circulation in Mali me Gropa karst massif, Central AlbaniaRomeo Eftimi, Viacheslav Andreychouk, Peter Malík, Tatiana Orehova, Małgorzata Nita, Perikli Qiriazi, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: There are 23 carbonate karst areas in Albania with a total area of 6440 km2, or 24% of the country’s territory. Karst aquifers are the richest in the country and about 80% of the water supply for the population living in cities is supplied by karst water. One of the most interesting karst massifs of Albania is called Mali me Gropa (MMG) with a total surface area of 157 km2. It is the subject of this paper. Although this massif has attracted attention due to its exceptional development of surface karst landforms (karst pits, sinkholes, swallow holes) and its large and high-quality groundwater resources, it has not been the subject of comprehensive research. In this paper, for the first time, is a summary of the results of a combination of specialized studies, including geomorphological characterization, analysis of long-term groundwater regime observations in relationship with meteorological data, water balance studies applying the recently developed WaterbalANce software method, assessment of groundwater quality and its variability, determination of the groundwater flow velocity with an artificial tracer, and the use of hydrochemistry and runoff data to determine groundwater flow patterns and sensitivity of spring water to contamination. The results of the multi-method studies conducted on the MMG karst massif will inform future studies of the numerous carbonate karst regions in Albania. A final important objective of this article is to raise public awareness about the vulnerability of karst waters and the need to protect the associated ecosystem, especially now that the MMG karst massif is in the spotlight for tourism development. 5. Integrated approach for characterizing aquifer heterogeneity in alluvial plainsIgor Karlović, Mitja Janža, Edmundo Placencia-Gómez, Tamara Marković, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Alluvial aquifers serve as vital groundwater resources worldwide. Due to their complex heterogeneity, accurate characterization requires the integration of multiple data types. This study presents a systematic framework to address aquifer heterogeneity through hydrofacies analysis, combining borehole data, electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and stochastic modeling. The approach was tested in the Varaždin aquifer, where geostatistical and stochastic tools were used to simulate the spatial distribution of four hydrofacies: gravel (G), gravel, sandy to clayey (Gsc), sand with gravel, clayey to silty (Sgcs), and clay to silt, sandy (CSs). As the thin and electrically conductive lenses of Sgcs-CSs material below 20 m depth limited the ERT resolution, synthetic models were used to infer their possible geometry and resistivity magnitudes, estimating a model of the hydrofacies distribution up to 35 m depth, consistent with field-data based model. The resulting dimensions of the lens-shaped structures revealed the horizontal extent of the hydrofacies, and were incorporated into horizontal Markov chain models. The 3D Markov chain models were used to generate 10 stochastic realizations of the hydrofacies distribution. Validation identified the representative hydrofacies model for the Varaždin aquifer with a prediction accuracy of 63 %. Results from simulations focused on the Vinokovščak wellfield area show that incorporating ERT-derived lens lengths into the model development slightly improved hydrofacies prediction accuracy by 0.3 % to 5.0 %, depending on hydrofacies model grid resolution. The analysis of different grid resolutions demonstrates that increasing model detail beyond the characteristic lens dimensions provided no accuracy improvement, suggesting that the optimal cell size is closely related to the estimated lens lengths. In contrast, coarser grids provide a simplified hydrofacies model, potentially increasing prediction accuracy but losing spatial resolution. This methodology forms a basis for integrating spatial heterogeneity into groundwater models, providing a useful tool for sustainable management in alluvial and similar sedimentary environments. 7. Relationship between job characteristics and music performance anxiety in collaborative pianists working in Slovenian music schoolsKatarina Babnik, Žan Lep, Katarina Habe, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Introduction: Music performance anxiety (MPA) is a significant challenge for amateur and professional musicians, as well as music students. Systematic literature reviews highlight a lack of research on the role of contextual variables in MPA. This study contributes to existing knowledge by examining how job characteristics, particularly job demands and job resources, influence MPA among collaborative pianists. Method: A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted on 94 collaborative pianists (24% of the population) working at all three levels of the Slovenian music education system. Data were collected through an online survey, including demographic characteristics, objective workload measures, and perceived job characteristics scales (cognitive job demands, emotional demands, job influence, role clarity, role conflict, and organizational justice), along with an adapted MPA scale. Confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency analysis were conducted for each scale, followed by correlation analysis and a multiple linear regression model to predict MPA. Results: The study tested six hypotheses, with mixed support for the proposed relationships. The regression model explained 50% (F = 5.11; df1 = 10, df2 = 51, p < 0.001) of the variance in MPA, with perceived emotional demands (β = 0. 50; t = 3.57; p < 0.001) and role conflict (β = 0.38; t = 2.65; p = 0.011) playing significant roles in predicting MPA. Discussion and conclusions: The findings enhance the understanding of MPA in the job context and have practical implications for music school management. Future research should explore the interaction between job characteristics and individual psychological resources across diverse professional and cultural contexts with representative samples. 8. The relative effect of job demands, resources, and personal resources on teaching quality and students' engagement during the COVID-19 pandemicŽan Lep, Eva Klemenčič Mirazchiyski, Plamen Mirazchiyski, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: During the COVID-19 pandemic's school closures and the distance education that resulted from it, teachers were faced with an increasing workload and significant changes in their working environment. Because increased workload can result not only in worsened mental health and lower work motivation, but also in worsened learning outcomes, this article explores how teacher-perceived job demands, job resources, and personal resources are related to teachers' assessment of teaching quality and student engagement during the pandemic. Using the data of 1,422 8th grade teachers in Slovenia from the IEA Responses to Educational Disruptions Survey (REDS) survey, this study also explores the perceived level of support from different institutional actors and the utility of Job demands-resources model for this specific group of workers in a specific work setting. The results show that the teachers of 8th graders in Slovenia perceived a higher level of support from their closest working environment compared to the national bureaucracy. In terms of job demands, the increased workload in preparing the lessons had negative effect on both teaching quality and student engagement, while the reported increase in time spent on direct work with students and social support received (a job resource) contributed positively to both outcome variables. In line with theoretical expectations, personal resources were positive predictors of teaching quality and student engagement in our model. Compared with the initial expectations this study had based on the underlying theoretical model, the results paint a complex relationship between job characteristics and learning outcomes during distance learning. Thus, some of the challenges both teachers and policy-makers face and will continue to face in possible similar situations are discussed.
