The effect of orthodontic tooth movement on the sensitivity of dental pulp : a systematic review and meta-analysis
Aljaž Golež, Maja Ovsenik, Ksenija Cankar, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Povzetek: Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) is a process that's initiated by orthodontic forces. As a consequence, the forces could restrict pulpal blood supply, possibly affecting dental pulp. The study aimed to review the available evidence on the short and long-term effects of orthodontic tooth movement on dental pulp sensitivity and to identify clinically relevant risk factors. Sources: PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched for papers from 1990 to the end of December 2021. Study selection: The studies that evaluated dental pulp sensitivity of teeth undergoing OTM were included in the systematic review. Randomized, nonrandomized and case-controlled studies were included in the analysis. Risk of bias in each study was assessed using the ROBINS-I tool. Data: The systematic search yielded an initial sample of 1110 studies, 17 were included in qualitative analysis. Most studies were classified as moderate risk of bias, however only limited long-term evidence with a higher risk of bias exists. Electric pulp test (EPT) sensitivity threshold during active OTM was increased by 4.25 SD (P < 0.001) and the relative risk (RR) of pulpal non-sensitivity was 13.27 (P < 0.001) higher compared to pre-orthodontic baseline status. Significant differences were between subgroups associated with the type of OTM. A positive relationship between pulpal non-sensitivity and mean patient age was discovered (P = 0.041). After OTM the risk of pulpal non-sensitivity remained 5.76 times higher (P < 0.001) in the long term. Conclusions: Evidence showed that OTM could affect dental pulp sensitivity. The type of OTM and patients' age were identified as clinically relevant risk factors. Clinical significance: Orthodontic tooth movement negatively impacts the sensitivity of dental pulp during active treatment and to a lesser degree in the long term. Pulpal sensitivity tests during active OTM should therefore be interpreted with caution. Data indicates younger patients have a lower risk of negative pulpal sensitivity during orthodontic treatment.

Selecting test problems from benchmark suites in constrained multiobjective optimisation
Jordan N. Cork, Tea Tušar, Bogdan Filipič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Povzetek: Benchmarking is essential to the effective conduct of algorithm development and selection. However, current benchmark suites in constrained multiobjective optimisation, consisting of constrained multiobjective optimisation problems (CMOPs), are lacking in many areas, particularly regarding their diversity and ability to differentiate among algorithms. This limits the ability to adequately conduct benchmarking in this domain. Despite the inadequacies of existing benchmark suites, there do exist CMOPs which are satisfactory according to certain criteria. This paper proposes a benchmark suite called the Selected Test Problems (STEP) suite. It is derived from a methodology for selecting the satisfactory CMOPs from the set of all CMOPs provided by the existing benchmark suites. The STEP suite is analysed in both the feature and performance spaces and is found to be diverse and able to distinguish among algorithms, in addition to other desirable characteristics.

Comparative analysis of machine translation for Hindi-Dogri text using rule-based, statistical, and neural approaches
Joginder Kumar, Manik Rakhra, Preeti Dubey, Deepak Prashar, Leo Mršić, Arfat Ahmad Khan, Seifedine Kadry, Jungeun Kim, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Povzetek: Machine translation has made significant progress in several Indian languages; however, some, known as computationally low-resourced languages, have seen very little work in this field. The Dogri language, which is listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, is one such language. The authors have developed a machine translation system for the Hindi-Dogri language pair in the fixed news domain using three approaches: rule-based machine translation (developed using linguistic rules), statistical machine translation (built using the Moses toolkit), and neural machine translation (developed using neural networks). A comparison of all three approaches is presented in this article. The article also discusses various research challenges identified in each approach used for machine translation. A corpus of approximately 0.1 million sentences in the news domain was used to train the corpus-based statistical machine translation (SMT) and neural machine translation (NMT) models. The authors also addressed whether NMT produces results equivalent to or better than those of SMT and rule-based machine translation (RBMT). To ensure a comprehensive evaluation, the outputs of all systems were evaluated using two approaches: manual evaluation by language experts and automatic evaluation using standard metrics—Bilingual Evaluation Understudy (BLEU), TER (Translation Edit Rate), METEOR (Metric for Evaluation of Translation with Explicit Ordering), and WER (Word Error Rate). Although RBMT achieved the highest overall scores in both automatic and manual evaluations, expert analysis revealed that translations produced by NMT and SMT exhibited less ambiguity. The study concludes that the performance of SMT and NMT systems are likely to improve further with the availability of larger bilingual parallel corpora.

Field to laboratory assessment of subsurface thermal conductivity: a geothermal case study in Slovenia
Karlo Borko, Fiona Chapman, Jasmin Raymond, Grzegorz Ryżyński, Nina Rman, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek

Povzetek: Reliable characterization of subsurface thermal properties is essential for designing efficient shallow geothermal systems and assessing the potential of Ground Source Heat Pump and Underground Thermal Energy Storage systems. The objective of this study is to evaluate the reliability of thermal conductivity estimations from different approaches by comparing three in situ methods - conventional Thermal Response Test (TRT), Enhanced Thermal Response Test (ETRT), and Distributed Thermal Response Test (DTRT) - against each other and laboratory measurements on core samples. The tests were conducted in a 100 m deep borehole heat exchanger in the Krško Basin, Slovenia. Laboratory measurements employed needle probes and an optical Thermal Conductivity Scanner (TCS), while in situ testing utilized fibre-optic Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) for high-resolution temperature profiling. Results show that needle probe measurements consistently underestimate thermal conductivity relative to TCS- and DTS-based methods, by 22% to 48%, mainly due to sample desaturation and limited probe contact. DTS-based ETRT revealed vertical variations and groundwater-flow-influenced zones. Cemented fibre-optic cables introduced greater uncertainty and yielded 44% higher conductivities than the ETRT with the composite cable. TCS yielded thermal conductivities most consistent with in situ measurements while providing a favourable balance of time, cost, and reliability of results.
