Povzetek: The authors report for the first time the capture of a specimen of marbled stingray Dasyatis marmorata (Steindachner, 1892) from the coast of Algeria. The specimen was an adult male measuring 340 mm in disc width, 310 mm in disc length, 450 mm in total length, and probably weighing 3 kg. Its occurrence in the region was probably due to migration from other southern areas such as the Tunisian coast, where the species is captured in relative abundance. These migrations are mainly due to the warming of the Mediterranean waters but also to competition pressure between members of the Dasyatidae inhabiting the same area. Additionally, the present capture constitutes the southwesternmost limit of the species’ extension range in the Mediterranean Sea.

Povzetek: The present paper represents the first report of areolate grouper Epinephelus areolatus Forsskal, 1775, from the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. A specimen of E. areolatus was caught by hook and line, at a depth of 8 m, off the coast of Arsuz in the Bay of Iskenderun, on 22 April 2023. The captured specimen of E. areolatus measured 28.5 cm in total length and 23.5 cm in standard length. This species entered the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal. The current record increases the number of exotic grouper species reported in the Mediterranean Sea, Turkey, to five.

Povzetek: The authors present a well-documented record of the first specimen of Maltese skate Leucoraja melitensis (Clark, 1926) ever to be reported from the coast of Algeria. According to data provided by the fishermen, it was an adult male measuring 253 mm in disc width, 232 mm in disc length and 455 mm in total length, and weighing 300 g approximately. Although the occurrence of this specimen is more likely attributable to migrations from other eastern Mediterranean areas such as the Tunisian coast, the possibility that it may indicate the presence of a viable population of L. melitensis in Algerian waters cannot be excluded.

Povzetek: A specimen of the non-indigenous species areolate grouper Epinephelus areolatus (Forsskål, 1775) and two specimens of pilotfish Naucrates ductor (Linnaeus 1758) were fished from the coastal waters off Latakia, Syria. The finding of E. areolatus constitutes the first substantiated record of this species for Syrian marine waters and the third for the entire Mediterranean Sea. The areolate grouper is a Lessepsian migrant from the Red Sea which entered the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal. N. ductor, on the other hand, has been known to inhabit the Mediterranean Sea together with several other fish species. However, the semi-obligate commensal relationship that it develops with large sharks and rays could explain the species’ occurrence in both the Mediterranean and Syrian marine waters. The capture of N. ductor reported herein is the second record for the Syrian coast.

Povzetek: Six non-indigenous fish species, all of Indo-Pacific origin, are here reported from the waters of Gaza Strip, Palestine, on the basis of photos and data collected from 2016 to 2023 on dedicated platforms through local citizen scientists and fishers contribute. Two species, Cheilinus lunulatus and Triacanthus cf. biaculeatus, are recorded for the first time in the Mediterranean Sea, and other four, Ambassis sp., Equulites cf. elongatus, Parupeneus forsskali and Heniochus intermedius are recorded for the first time in the Palestinian waters of Gaza. Although data and material were limited, the results reinforce the useful support of citizen science in monitoring introduction and/or expansion of non-indigenous species in a basin strongly affected by biological invasion, such as the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
