1. Talking and thinking with AI : how AI chatbots restructure epistemic identity and virtueMateja Centa Strahovnik, Vojko Strahovnik, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The incorporation of large language models or ai-driven chatbots into every-day communication and knowledge practices has significant implications for how we think and understand ourselves as epistemic agents. This paper investigates how ai chatbots reshape epistemic identity and virtue, focusing on the effects of human-ai interaction. The use of ai chatbots can ultimately impact epistemic virtues such as curiosity, intellectual humility, and open-mindedness on the one hand, and also raise questions about epistemic agency and responsibility on the other. This paper emphasizes the importance of reflective practices that maintain human autonomy, foster epistemic responsibility, and promote virtuous collabo-ration with ai systems. Ultimately, this paper advocates for a partial reimagining of epistemic identity and epistemic collaboration in the age of ai, seeking a bal-ance between the advantages of ai and the significance and uniqueness of human intellectual endeavors. 2. Hermeneutics and Nihilism : Meaning, Agency, and the Dialectics of Negativity in Gadamer’s ThoughtIlia Inishev, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Nihilism, as a pervasive destructive tendency that permeates all aspects of modern life, is rooted in an established perceptual stance characterized by the dominance of a particular kind of agency. Philosophical hermeneutics is arguably the most suitable approach to provide both a comprehensive diagnosis and an effective remedy. Its diagnostic and therapeutic potentials are linked to its notion of the meaningful, which is not distilled from an experience laden with material, bodily, and other “contaminations,” but rather coincides with the radical—and, in this sense, normative—self-disclosure of the livable, or truly human, world. In this article, I examine the potential of Gadamerian hermeneutics for revealing and disseminating forms of agency that offer alternatives to the destructive attitudes deeply embedded in contemporary cultures. 3. Hermeneutics, Practice, Event : An Attempt at Re-Conceptualizing Human AgencyMiklós Nyírő, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The paper deals with the problem of a re-conceptualization of the basic modes of human agency. This task is prompted by a consideration, according to which our traditional conceptuality (going back to the Greek distinction between poiesis and praxis) cannot account for the very emergence of true praxis that in turn can be explained by a certain oblivion institutionalized in our culture, namely, already on the level of grammar. Such oblivion is revealed by pointing out that the voice systems of the primordial Indo-European languages, as opposed to those of the major occidental languages, were still able to capture the all-encompassing notion of “pure event” and of “medial (event-related) agency.” This yields a tripartite typology of agency, which can account for the kind of human activity that mediates between poiesis and praxis and may, therefore, prepare for the latter. 4. Does age matter? : The well-being of migrant children in comparative perspectiveZorana Medarić, Barbara Gornik, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This article explores the subjective perceptions of well-being of migrant children attending primary school (9-14 years) and secondary school (15-18 years) in Slovenia. It focuses on how they conceptualise their fears, worries and concerns, what is important for them to feel accepted and safe, and how they think about their past and the future. Using a comparative perspective, similarities and differences in the experience of well-being of these two age groups of migrants are explored. The analysis is based on open-ended narrative interviews with migrant children and revolves around the question of whether and how age influences their subjective perception of well-being. The article sheds light on age-specific meanings and understandings of migration processes based on the views and experiences of migrant children and youth regarding their well-being, bringing to the fore the perspectives of children that are often missing or underrepresented in integration policy. 5. Anthropocene challenges for youth research : understanding agency and change through complex, adaptive systemsReingard Spannring, Shé Mackenzie Hawke, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The Anthropocene has come to signify human dominance over the more-than-human world with all its negative consequences for this planet%s human and nonhuman inhabitants. As young people have started to express their feelings of concern and frustration with the inertia of the political elites, youth research, too, is called upon to reconsider and broaden its perspective. In particular, we argue, that the Anthropocene challenges anthropocentrism, dualisms, and traditional notions of agency in youth research, and must be critiqued through multi-disciplinary investigation. A transgression of the mainstream paradigm in youth research through the perspective of Complex Adaptive Systems Theory (CAS) could provide much needed analyses of a broad range of issues at the intersection of youth and ecological concerns. This article will therefore outline Complex Adaptive Systems Theory (CAS) as a multi-disciplinary tool, and apply it to two examples: the biosocial system of the Elwha River waterscape, and the #Fridays for Future strikes that are both motivated by environmental concerns. Finally, it discusses the possible contributions of a CAS approach in youth research to a better understanding of agency and change in ecologically turbulent times. 6. The diminishing agency of urbanised Alevis against the raise of political Islam in TurkeyÖzge Onay, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: This paper critically examines the diminishing agency of the first-urbanised Alevi generation vis- à-vis the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and their sec-tarian agenda mediated by political Islam. The conceptual position is underpinned by Foucault’s concept of governmentality and theory of agency in broader cultu-ral terms. These theoretical frameworks interweave to present a rich and complex set of snapshots that document the first-urbanised Alevi generation’s decreasing possibilities of action in the urban context. Accordingly, the empirical data that informs this piece has been collected by a series of qualitative and semi-structured interviews with the first-urbanised Alevi generation, children of those who migra-ted to urban areas in the 1960s and wittingly or unwittingly kept their identities undisclosed to varying degrees. Those interviewed come from a range of different professional backgrounds, with the only common point being that they have spent their childhoods and adult years in Istanbul, Turkey. Through a close engagement with the empirical material, this paper addresses the effects of the AKP’s Sunnifica-tion process centring around political Islam on the first generation urbanised Ale-vis and to what extent the systemic nature of this process attenuates or takes away their agency in the urban context. The account is focused around three key the-mes including daily life, institutional forms of discrimination and the workplace.
