1. New community of sycamore maple in northwestern Slovenia (Aconito paniculati-Aceretum pseudoplatanii ass. nov.)Igor Dakskobler, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: We compared and analyzed a large number of relevés of montane-subalpine maple forests in northwestern and western Slovenia, and classified most of them into the association Lamio orvalae-Aceretum pseudoplatani. Several relevés from the Julian Alps, which we made on debris slopes (talus) and rockfall at elevations between 940 m and 1540 m, stood out and we classified them into the new association Aconito paniculati-Aceretum pseudoplatani (suballiance Lamio orvalae-Acerenion pseudoplatani, alliance Tilio-Acerion). In terms of species composition (but not in terms of its sites), its stands highly resemble the stands of the upper montane-subalpine beech-maple association Aconito paniculati-Fagetum sylvaticae(suballiance Saxifrago rotundifolii-Fagenion sylvaticae, alliance Aremonio-Fagion). The stands of both plant communities may be syndynamically connected. The article also discusses pioneer sycamore maple stands on former fields, pastures or hay meadows in the foothills of the southern Julian Alps and the Trnovo Forest Plateau, which are classified into the (for the time being) provisionally described new association Senecio fuchsii-Aceretum pseudoplatani nom. prov. 2. The Diversity of Moths (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) of Significant Landscape Donji Kamenjak and Medulin Archipelago, Istria, CroatiaToni Koren, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The moth diversity of Significant landscape Donji Kamenjak and Medulin archipelago was surveyed during 2021. Together with the data collected in several field trips in previous years, 446 species of moths have been recorded in the area so far. Many of the recorded species belong to the seldomly recorded moth species in Croatia and some represent only the second or third finding for the country while for several species have been recorded in Istria peninsula for the first time. One species, Eupithecia ultimaria Boisduval, 1840 is reported as new to the fauna of Croatia. Three main threats were established for the moth diversity, natural succession due to the lack of regular grazing, a large network of paths and roads leading to the habitat phragmentation and the high pressure of the vehicles in summer months resulting in the rise of the carbonate dust from the macadam roads on surrounding grasslands and vegetation. Ključne besede: calcareus grasslands, maquis, faunistic, light trapping, Natura 2000 Objavljeno v DiRROS: 31.07.2026; Ogledov: 266; Prenosov: 144

5. Environmental pollution load and contaminant transfer in Natura 2000 protected brownfield siteAnja Ilenič, Petra Vrhovnik, Sonja Lojen, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Revitalisation of contaminated brownfield sites is essential for sustainable development, particularly near sensitive ecological areas like Natura 2000 sites. The lagoon in Slovenia’s Regional Park Šturmovci, an artificial wastewater convergence point created during hydroelectric construction, is a highly relevant example. This study integrates geochemical, mineralogical and isotopic analyses to identify sources and controlling mechanisms of contaminant distribution in lagoon sediments and assess their transfer to nearby agricultural soils during flooding events. Results indicate anaerobic conditions, with depth-related shifts in phosphorus, sulphur and redox-sensitive elements, such as rare earth elements (REE), arsenic (As), barium (Ba), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb) and vanadium (V), as well as fluctuations in pyrite-rich laminated layers, suggesting potential flood-driven remobilisation of trace elements. Lagoon sediments are highly contaminated with As (73 mg kg−1), Ba (247 mg kg−1), Pb (97 mg kg−1) and Zn (1118 mg kg−1), with elevated concentrations also observed in agricultural soil, all exceeding respective limit values of 20, 160, 85 and 200 mg kg−1. Pollutant concentrations were highest near wastewater inflows and decreased with distance, with nitrogen isotopic patterns indicating partial nitrification and surface ammonium accumulation, reflecting intensive agricultural inputs in the area. High enrichment factor (EF > 20) and geoaccumulation index (Igeo > 3) values, in particular for As, Cd and Zn, indicated severe contamination and highlighted the urgent need for effective remediation strategies, including immobilisation using biochar or cement-based binders, as well as phytoremediation approaches. 9. A new endemic plant community with Schoenus nigricans in the Southeastern Alps and northern Dinaric AlpsIgor Dakskobler, Andrej Martinčič, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: We studied the phytosociology of plant communities with Schoenus nigricans, a character species of the alliance Caricion davallianae, in western Slovenia. Most of our relevés are classified into the new association Astrantio carniolicae-Schoenetum nigricantis, whose stands grow on moist rocks and in the headwater section of springs and small brooks in dolomite wooded areas, especially in the Cerkno region, in the basin of the Idrijca river. Its character species and (geographical) differential species are Schoenus nigricans, Molinia arundinacea, Astrantia carniolica, Palustriella commutata, Carex flacca, Valeriana saxatilis, Salix glabra, Erica carnea and Primula carniolica. In addition to the typical form (subassociation -typicum) we described also the subassociation with predominating Cladium mariscus (-cladietosum marisci). The studied dolomite headwaters are a Natura 2000 habitat type and the sites of several vulnerable and protected species. Their role as a biotope is therefore significant and requires adequate protection.
