3. Attachment and psychopathology in children and adolescents : a cross-sectional study of children with type 1 diabetes and their healthy peersAnja Turin, Maja Drobnič Radobuljac, Nataša Bratina, Sašo Karakatič, Tadej Battelino, Klemen Dovč, Simona Klemenčič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Introduction: Secure attachment develops in early relationships between infants and their caregivers, providing a foundation for emotional security and mental health across the lifespan. In contrast, insecure attachment is associated with maladaptive stress response and an increased risk of both internalizing and externalizing mental health problems. This study examined the association between attachment (in)security and psychopathology in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) compared with healthy peers. We also considered caregivers’ attachment security and traumatic life events to better understand interacting biopsychosocial factors in children living with a chronic illness. Methods: A group of children with T1D (N = 101) and a group of healthy control children (N = 106) aged 8–15 years and one of their parents were included in the study. A Child Attachment Interview (CAI) was conducted with the children and a Relationship Structures Questionnaire (ECR-RS) with the parents to assess their attachment security. Stressful life events in the children’s lives were recorded using a questionnaire on the traumatic events (LITE). The children’s psychopathology was assessed using the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and the Youth Self-Report (YSR). Descriptive analyses and linear regression models were used to analyze the data. Results: Fifty-nine percent of children had secure attachment, 39% were dismissing, and 2% preoccupied; 16% were classified as disorganized. No significant difference in psychopathology was found between children with T1D and their healthy peers. However, insecure/disorganized attachment was associated with higher psychopathology scores. Simple regression showed positive associations between psychopathology and child attachment insecurity, maternal attachment anxiety, and traumatic life events. A more complex model revealed that male sex, the presence of T1D, maternal attachment anxiety in older children, and the interaction between maternal attachment anxiety and traumatic life events were significantly associated with higher levels of psychopathology. Conclusion: Children with insecure, particularly disorganized, attachment showed higher levels of psychopathology. However, when interaction effects were considered, other factors—such as sex, parental attachment, traumatic life events, and chronic illness—emerged as stronger predictors. These findings highlight the importance of attachment- and trauma-informed care that addresses multiple risk factors to support child and family mental health. 5. Understanding public opinion formation in Southeast Europe : exploring social forces and communication dynamicsTodor Stojčevski, Urša Lamut, Erika Džajić Uršič, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The article investigates the mechanisms through which social forces, networks, cognitive frames, and institutions shape public opinion in Southeast Europe via communication. Employing a qualitative approach, data was collected through synchronous focus groups conducted in six Southeast European countries. The findings reveal that social networks play a pivotal role in shaping public opinion, with organizational position and relationships influencing communication effectiveness. Cognitive frames significantly impact public perception, with entrenched beliefs guiding interpretation of information. Meanwhile, social institutions, such as language and communication rules, influence the clarity and accessibility of messages, thereby shaping public understanding. The research underscores the need for deeper research, ethical standards, and transparent communication to build and maintain public trust. Continuous engagement with the public and adaptability in communication strategies are essential for fostering mutual understanding and trust. This research emphasizes social forces’ complexity and overlapping nature in shaping public opinion and the strategic approaches required for effective communication in Southeast Europe. 6. The tale of words and power : institutional narratives in Southeast EuropeTodor Stojčevski, Urša Lamut, Erika Džajić Uršič, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: The article examines how institutional frameworks influence communication strategies and public engagement across six countries in Southeastern Europe. Findings from focus group discussions reveal that formalized communication rules enhance credibility and consistency, but hinder adaptability, especially when engaging younger audiences who prefer informal and visual communication styles. Communicator literacy fosters clarity, trust, and audience connection, including adapting language and employing rhetorical and emotional intelligence. Leadership amplifies the perceived authority of institutional messages, increasing public responsiveness. Regional complexities, such as multilingual requirements for national minorities, highlight the tension between inclusivity and efficiency. Grounded in the social-fields-approach, the article emphasizes the interplay between institutional structures, sociocultural contexts, and public opinion formation. Institutions must adopt adaptive and inclusive strategies to effectively engage diverse publics and foster trust. 7. Investigation of ceramic powders using piezoresponse force microscopyNejc Suban, Silvo Drnovšek, Hana Uršič Nemevšek, 2026, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) is a widely used technique for probing the piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties of ceramic materials at the nanoscale. However, its application to ceramic powders remains challenging due to the irregular non-flat shape of the powders. In this study, an approach for PFM analysis of ceramic powders is presented, where ceramic powders are embedded in polymer resin and polished to achieve flat surface for PFM imaging. The approach is demonstrated on ferroelectric PbZr0.53Ti0.47O3 (PZT) and 0.65Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.35PbTiO3 (PMN-35PT) powders. PFM imaging reveals the piezoelectricity within the powder particles and localises the ferroelectric domains within them, while the PFM switching spectroscopy experiment is used to observe the domain switching behavior. 8. Acute human bocavirus 1 infection in children hospitalized for acute bronchiolitis : a 2-year prospective studyTina Uršič, Lara Lusa, Franc Strle, Marko Pokorn, Tatjana Mrvič, Štefan Grosek, Miroslav Petrovec, Monika Jevšnik Virant, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Background: The objective of this prospective study was to assess the proportion and clinical consequences of human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) replication in children hospitalized for acute bronchiolitis (AB) with HBoV1 DNA in the nasopharynx (NP). Methods: For this purpose, we detected HBoV1 DNA and mRNA (evidence of viral replication and viable virus) in NP in cases and healthy control children. This research allowed us to distinguish active HBoV1 infections from inactive ones. Results: HBoV1 DNA was detected in the NP of 37 of 307 patients with AB (12.1%) and 9 of 150 children in a healthy control group (6%) with a high codetection rate with other respiratory viruses in AB patients, 28 of 37 (75.7%). Only 9 of 37 HBoV1 DNA-positive NP swabs (24.3%) with high DNA load were also HBoV1 mRNA positive, moreover, HBoV1 DNA was also detected in the plasma of these patients. Conclusions: Based on the results of our study, we can conclude that children with AB acute HBoV1 infection has a high HBoV1 DNA load in NP samples together with detected HBoV1 mRNA and detected HBoV1 DNA in plasma. 10. Current advances in magnetoelectric composites with various interphase connectivity typesYouness Hadouch, Daoud Mezzane, M'barek Amjoud, Hana Uršič Nemevšek, Abdelilah Lahmar, Brigita Rožič, Igor A. Luk'yanchuk, Zdravko Kutnjak, Mimoun El Marssi, 2025, pregledni znanstveni članek Povzetek: Magnetoelectric composites integrate the coupling between magnetic and piezoelectric materials to create new functionalities for potential technological applications. This coupling is typically achieved through the exchange of magnetic, electric, or elastic energy across the interfaces between the different constituent materials. Tailoring the strength of the magnetoelectric effect is primarily accomplished by selecting suitable materials for each constituent and by optimizing geometrical and microstructural designs. Various composite architectures, such as (0-3), (2-2), (1-3) and core-shell connectivities, have been studied to enhance magnetoelectric coupling and other required physical properties in composites. This review examines the latest advancements in magnetoelectric materials, focusing on the impact of different interphase connectivity types on their properties and performance. Before exploring magnetic-electric coupling, a brief overview of the historical background of multiferroic magnetoelectric composites is provided. Fundamental concepts underlying the magnetoelectric effect, piezoelectricity, and the magnetostrictive effect are explained, including their origins and examples of these materials' properties. So far, three types of magnetoelectric composite connectivities have been investigated experimentally: particulate composites (0-3), laminated and thin films (2-2), sticks embedded in matrix, core-shell particles, and coaxial fibers. An outlook on the prospects and scientific challenges in the field of multiferroic magnetoelectric composites is given at the end of this review.
