1. The structure of psychopathology on Reddit : network analysis of mental health communities in relation to the ICD diagnostic systemBojan Evkoski, Srebrenka Letina, Petra Kralj Novak, 2026, original scientific article Abstract: Background: Social media platforms such as Reddit have become important spaces where individuals articulate their distress, seek support, and explore alternative ways of understanding mental health outside traditional institutional frameworks. These environments provide an opportunity to examine mental health discourse at scale, offering perspectives that extend beyond traditional clinical and research settings. Objective: This study aims to examine the structure of mental health communities on Reddit by identifying patterns of association between mental disorders reflected in user activity and assessing how these relationships align with established diagnostic categories in the ICD (International Classification of Diseases). Methods: We manually curated 114 Reddit communities focused on specific mental health conditions from the 20,000 most active subreddits in 2022. Each community was labeled into 49 disorders and categorized under 9 ICD diagnostic categories within the group of mental and behavioral disorders, collectively known as the F codes. We constructed a disorder association network by identifying statistically significant user overlaps based on coposting across subreddit pairs using a bipartite configuration model, with Bonferroni-corrected significance (P<.001). We analyzed the connectivity of the network within and across diagnostic categories, examining inter- and intracategory links. Finally, we compared the structure of disorder associations inferred from Reddit with the ICD classification derived from diagnostic criteria using hierarchical clustering. Results: The inferred Reddit network of psychopathology revealed an interconnected structure (density=0.135), with all but 6 disorders forming a single giant component that spans across all 9 diagnostic categories. The most prominent disorders by number of users included hyperkinetic disorders (85,000), depressive episodes and recurrent depressive disorders (73,000), habit and impulse disorders (69,000), pervasive developmental disorders (52,000), and generalized anxiety disorder (44,000). In terms of connectivity, posttraumatic stress disorder (17/48 of all possible connections), obsessive-compulsive disorder (16/48), and depersonalization-derealization disorder (15/48) emerged as the most central in the network of positive disorder associations, while schizotypal disorder, avoidant personality disorder, and agoraphobia were the most central when accounting for the association strength. At the level of disorder categories, several disorders, such as bipolar disorder and premenstrual dysphoric disorder, displayed high intercategory associations but weak intracategory ties, indicating blurred diagnostic boundaries. The network of negative coposting associations revealed a divergence from the expectations of past research; for instance, addiction-related communities (eg, alcohol and opioids) were negatively associated with much of the broader mental health discourse. Finally, hierarchical comparisons showed moderate overlap between the Reddit network of disorder associations and the ICD network of diagnostic criteria, both in pairwise edge similarity (13% of edges present in both networks) and overall clustering (Adjusted Rand Index=0.295). Conclusions: Reddit-based mental health communities reveal a complementary structure of disorder associations shaped by lived experience, often diverging from formal diagnostic criteria and exhibiting patterns of association that do not align with established diagnostic boundaries. 3. Women's satisfaction with the childbirth experience : a descriptive researchLara Menhart, Mirko Prosen, 2017, original scientific article Abstract: Introduction: Satisfaction is a complex concept, which we often come across when evaluating the childbirth experience. The purpose of the research was to find out the childbirth experiences of women in Slovenia with regard to their level of satisfaction with the provided perinatal care. Methods: The Slovenian version of the Birth Satisfaction Scale % Revised was used in a non-experimental quantitative descriptive research (Cronbach % = 0.81). The data were collected through an online questionnaire in February 2017. Convenience sampling was used and 301 women, who gave birth in 2016 in Slovenia, participated. Data were analysed with descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman's correlation coefficient. Results: The results of the study have shown that the number of births (U = 6802, p = 0.150), education (U = 7493, p = 0.317), age (U = 5142, p = 0.061) and presence of birth partner (U = 2841, p = 0.730) are not statistically significantly correlated with the assessment of childbirth satisfaction. A lower level of satisfaction was also found in cases of caesarean sections of primiparous, in comparison with multiparous, women (U = 430, p = 0.001). A statistically significant difference was established in the correlation between satisfaction and respondents' residential environment (U = 7029, p = 0.039), professional communication, and level of anxiousness of birthing mothers (rs = 0.397, p = 0,000). Discussion and conclusion: The results have shown that healthcare professionals who are present in childbirth are the key factor in contributing to a positive birth experience. The obtained results open up an opportunity for further research on the communication and attitude of health professionals towards birthing mothers. 4. Expert opinions about the use of comprehensive nutrition protocol in practice for obesity preventionMojca Stubelj, Melita Peršolja, Lidija Zadnik Stirn, 2016, original scientific article Abstract: Introduction: Obesity is associated with a number of chronic diseases. The research aimed to determine the effectiveness of nutrition assessment when using a comprehensive nutrition protocol at primary health service. Methods: A real life situation was analysed for the positive and negative factors in the newly formed comprehensive nutritional protocol. These factors were identified by a group decision-making and a SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Treats) and subsequently numerically evaluated with the Analytic Hierarchy Process method which included expert opinions. Results: According to experts, the most important factors justifying the introduction of the protocol in practice are "equal treatment for all subjects" and "precisely prepared manual", followed by "individual treatment" and "health status improvements". The two most important negative factors are "dependence on other professionals" and "subjects will not be able to follow the protocol". Discussion and conclusion: Expert opinions favour the introduction of nutrition protocol in clinical practice to ensure equal treatment of all subjects, and enhance obesity prevention with the accompanying detailed instructions. For this reason, further research should address the foundation of dietetic counselling services at the primary level of healthcare, so that physicians could refer obese people to individual nutritional therapy, which may reduce the prevalence of obesity. 5. Quality of life of alcohol-dependent adults : a mixed-methods studyKlavdija Čuček-Trifkovič, Blanka Kores-Plesničar, Alenka Kobolt, Leona Cilar Budler, Margaret Denny, Suzanne Denieffe, 2020, original scientific article Abstract: Introduction: Alcohol dependence is the most prevalent addiction disorder that develops gradually as an interplay of individual and social factors. It impacts the quality of life of affected individuals. The purpose of this study was to examine the quality of life of alcohol-dependent people at different stages of treatment compared to individuals without alcohol dependence. Methods: A mixed-methods study was conducted. First, a cross-sectional study (n = 502) was conducted using a validated Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire (Q-LES-Q). Focus groups for subjective quality of life assessment were also conducted. Data were analysed using descriptive and inference methods (Mann Whitney U Test) with the SPSS, version 20 programme. Results: Non-dependent participants are significantly more satisfied with each of the quality of life component than alcohol-dependent participants. Differences were demonstrated in a sense of well-being and leisure-time activities. Differences between alcohol-dependent and non-dependent participants were seen in the domains of physical health, work satisfaction and social relationships. Discussion and conclusion: Alcohol-dependent participants reported a lower quality of life than non-alcohol dependent participants as alcohol dependents confront numerous problems associated with their dependence. There is a need for further research in the field of alcohol dependence in relation to the quality of life. 6. A five-finger mnemonic for teaching schoolchildren the theoretical components of adult basic life support : a modified reactive Delphi-guided development and memorability pilot test with schoolchildrenNino Fijačko, Robert Greif, Špela Metličar, Gregor Štiglic, Benjamin S. Abella, Matej Strnad, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: Background: A mnemonic is a cognitive aid frequently used in health-related education. The main goal of this study was to develop and test a 5-finger mnemonic for teaching schoolchildren the theoretical aspects of adult Basic Life Support (BLS) steps, a process rarely described in the context of instructing laypersons. Methods: Experts from the European Resuscitation Council’s Basic Life Support Science and Education Committee (ERC BLS SEC), specializing in teaching adult BLS, participated in the first phase of the pilot study. This phase employed the modified reactive Delphi to develop a 5-finger mnemonic for teaching schoolchildren the theoretical aspects of adult BLS steps, in accordance with the 2021 ERC BLS guidelines. The mnemonic underwent revision rounds based on expert suggestions and was evaluated using a 9-point Likert scale. The process was repeated until there was unanimous approval. In the second phase, a pilot test was conducted with schoolchildren at a summer camp to assess their recall of the 5-finger mnemonic. Following their training in adult BLS steps utilizing the 5-finger mnemonic, schoolchildren were tasked with arranging cards depicting images from the mnemonic both before and after the training. Results: From March to October 2022, a four-round modified reactive Delphi engaged four experts from the ERC BLS SEC. Initial expert consensus was moderate, 6.0 (IQR = 4.5–7.5, min = 1, max = 9), on a scale 1 (“totally disagree”) to 9 (“totally agree”). The experts consensus improved over subsequent rounds, resulting in two final versions of the 5-finger mnemonic. Both versions concentrate on the comprehensive adult BLS, differing only in their approach to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR): one employs a method of 30 chest compressions followed by two rescue breaths, while the other utilizes compression-only CPR. In August 2023, a recall pilot test involved mostly female schoolchildren (12/13, 92.3%). Pre-training, no cards with 5-finger mnemonic content were arranged correctly, but post-training, progress improvement was observed, especially in older schoolchildren (Z = -2.727, p = 0.006). Conclusions: The pilot study highlights the potential of using tailored educational tools, such as mnemonics, to teach important lifesaving skills to different age groups. This suggests that the 5-finger mnemonic effectively improved schoolchildren’s understanding of the theoretical aspects of adult BLS steps. 7. Hydrolysis synthesis of iridium oxide ▫$(IrO_x)$▫ on carbon for acidic oxygen evolution : influence of heat-treatment on structure and electrocatalytic activitySwapnil Sanjay Karade, Raghunandan Sharma, Sašo Gyergyek, Per Morgen, Bettina Pilgaard Andersen, Martin Aaskov Karlsen, Dorthe Ravnsbæk, Shuang Ma Andersen, 2026, original scientific article Abstract: The development of efficient and durable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is critical for advancing proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWEs). This study presents a nanostructured iridium oxide anchored on high-surface-area carbon (IrOx/C) OER electrocatalyst, synthesized through ultrasonication-assisted deposition of hydrolysis-derived colloidal IrOx nanoparticles onto the carbon support. The as-prepared IrOx/C exhibits a mass activity exceeding five times that of unsupported benchmark commercial IrO2, attributed to its uniform nanoparticle distribution and enhanced surface chemistry. Post-synthesis heat-treatments at two different temperatures (200 or 300 °C) were employed to stabilize the catalyst structure. Notably, the sample treated at 200 °C retained 84% of its initial activity after accelerated stress testing, outperforming the commercial counterpart, which retained 67 % under identical conditions. Comprehensive structural and morphological analyses revealed that the heat-treatment increased the IrOx particle size and decreased the Ir³⁺/Ir⁴⁺ ratio while leaving the amorphous nature of IrOx unaffected, which combinedly led to the improved durability. These findings offer valuable insights into designing stable low-iridium OER electrocatalysts for acidic PEMWE applications. 9. “I somehow survived... but I will never do it again” : teachers’ perspectives on past and future educational disruptions in SloveniaUrška Štremfel, Manja Veldin, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: Five years after the COVID-19 pandemic, namely, the biggest disruption to education in the last century, this article provides insights into the consequences it holds for teachers’ well-being, their (non)preparedness for and support needed in any such future disruptions in Slovenia. By utilising the Job Demands–Resources Model, insights are provided concerning job demands (stress) and job resources (support) on different levels (individual, micro, meso, macro, chrono) of Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory. The importance of complementing large-scale, representative, quantitative data (from the Responses to Educational Disruption Survey (REDS)) with qualitative data obtained from two focus groups comprising eight teachers in total is demonstrated to gain a comprehensive understanding of teachers’ well-being during educational disruptions. This study confirms that the intertwining of different levels in Bronfenbrenner’s socio-ecological system explains job demands (sources of stress) and job resources (support for teacher well-being) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority of stressors at the time of the pandemic were identified on the micro level, whereas sources of support were primarily located on the individual and meso (school) levels. For any future educational disruptions, however, the most significant sources of support for teachers’ well-being are expected on the macro level (system and society).
