The Role of Open Public Spaces in Social Life during the Pandemic (Covid-19) : Case Study in KosovoBesim Gollopeni, Vlora Aliu, Modest Gashi, 2023, original scientific article Abstract: The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in Kosovo increased citizens’ need to use open public spaces. This paper aims to investigate the importance of open public spaces in social life, and how much citizens in Kosovo used them before and during the pandemic. The study is conducted during the quarantine period (2020), through a questionnaire (N = 549) with the use of the Microsoft Forms online tool, and it involved citizens over 18 years old, from over 58 percent of municipalities from all over Kosovo. The results of the study show that during the quarantine period only 20.5% of citizens frequented public spaces every day, and that citizens mostly used them for recreation (26%), meeting with relatives or friends (31%), sports activities (23%), work and other purposes (20%). However, the fear of COVID-19 and the observance of restrictions on movement meant that 24% of citizens did not use open public spaces. Being in open public spaces gave citizens feelings of satisfaction, curiosity, optimism, and calm, and strengthened their self-confidence. Quarantine significantly increased the awareness of citizens about the lack of open public spaces in their neighbourhoods.

2. Diaspora’s role in their home country’s economic development : the case of KosovoMimoza Dushi, Albert Berila, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: This study critically examines the challenges faced by the Kosovo Albanian diaspora in investing in their home country. Despite being a significant economic asset, particularly through substantial remittances that contribute to the national GDP, the diaspora encounters various barriers to effective investment. Based on 53 biographical interviews (2014–2016) with migrants in Switzerland and Germany, as well as 23 interviews with key informants, including officials, trade union representatives, and civil society actors, the study highlights the absence of adequate incentive packages to support diaspora driven investments in Kosovo. The research addresses both individual and policy levels, offering recommendations aimed at enhancing the impact of diaspora financial initiatives.

An overview of internationally important plant taxa from KosovoFadil Millaku, Elez Krasniqi, Naim Berisha, 2025, not set Abstract: This study investigates internationally important plant taxa in Kosovo, using data from international lists and local records. The goals are to identify these taxa, outline their significance, and enhance understanding of their ecology, distribution, and conservation status. The analysis identified 59 internationally significant plant taxa in Kosovo, with the Orchidaceae family prominently represented by 33 taxa. This highlights global conservation concerns for orchids due to their vulnerability to habitat loss and illegal trade. Other important families include Amaryllidaceae, Liliaceae, and Lycopodiaceae. These taxa are listed under frameworks such as the Habitats Directive, CITES, and the Bern Convention, indicating the need for rigorous conservation efforts. Habitat loss and fragmentation are primary threats, impacting 26 taxa, followed by wild collection, grazing, agriculture, and urbanization. Effective conservation strategies should involve habitat protection, sustainable harvesting, and community engagement.

4. "Kosovo, My Land"? : Slovenians, Albanians, and the Limits of Yugoslav Social CohesionJure Ramšak, 2021, original scientific article Abstract: The author examines the Kosovo crisis in the context of the pluralisation and democratisation of Slovenian society in the 1980s and early 1990s. This issue became a catalyst not only for the repositioning of structures of party leadership in relation to Belgrade, but also with respect to general public debates. By charting individual stages of the critical decade of 1981%1991, the author presents Slovenian perceptions of Kosovo%s political, economic, and social issues, first through the works of neo-Marxist critics and later through the activism of a group of left-liberal intellectuals, which included the provision of legal support and a high-profile social action related to the violations of Kosovar Albanian human rights. The author discusses the constraints encountered by this brief attempt to establish a pan-Yugoslav civil society initiative. At the same time, he shows how the complexities of the Kosovo crisis were used to coalesce the Slovenian nation into flight from Yugoslavia.
