Evolution of RMA in Slovenia
Primož Petek, Tjaša Baloh, Vanda Baloh, 2024, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph

Abstract: This chapter outlines the research management and administration (RMA) as a profession and work field in Slovenia. Thus, we present an overview of the Slovenian research system, describing how this system has evolved over time. In addition, we explain the emerging need for RMA skills, including its self-organisation component and the challenges that lie ahead. A section is dedicated to Slovenian RMA demographics using RAAAP-2 and RAAAP-3 surveys. The conclusions of the chapter focus on a forecast for the future of RMA in Slovenia and several possible paths to follow for its community.

Forest managers’ perspectives on environmental changes in the biosphere reserve Mura-Drava-Danube

Abstract: Riparian forests are particularly vulnerable to environmental change and anthropogenic influences because they are highly dynamic ecosystems, thus proper adaptation measures are crucial. The implementation of these measures, however, strongly depends on the actors’ perceptions of the specific problems occurring in such forests. For understanding the constraints of specific interest groups toward different adaptation activities, information in this field is essential. By conducting a questionnaire survey we explore how different types of forest managers, i.e., forestry professionals, forest owners, and conservation managers, perceive the effects of environmental change on forest management in the recently established Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube. We show that these forest managers are highly aware of ongoing environmental changes and appraise deteriorating forest conditions, especially after observing changes themselves. Abiotic damage is expected to increase the most, followed by biotic damage, the spread of non-native species, and tree dieback. Nearly 80% of the survey respondents expect further changes and almost all of them intend to adapt their management of forests to mitigate or prepare for these changes. Nevertheless, we show differences in sensitivity to change and willingness to initiate adaptation actions by assessing adaptation thresholds: conservation managers appear generally more tolerant to changes, which results in higher thresholds to initiate management adaptation than forestry professionals

Hibridno sodelovanje zainteresirane javnosti v procesu obnove območnih gozdnogospodarskih in lovskoupravljavskih načrtov za obdobje 2021–2030
Aleš Poljanec, Matjaž Guček, Matija Stergar, Andreja Gregorič, Tina Simončič, Miha Marenče, Tjaša Baloh, Boris Rantaša, 2022, professional article

Abstract: V letih 2020, 2021 in 2022 je potekala obnova območnih gozdnogospodarskih in lovskoupravljavskih načrtov (v nadaljevanju območni načrti), ki bodo usmerjali razvoj slovenskih gozdov do leta 2030. Zaradi vse zahtevnejšega upravljanja gozdnih ekosistemov in usklajevanja številnih interesov je sodelovanje deležnikov v postopku priprave in sprejemanja območnih načrtov ključnega pomena. Pri tokratni obnovi območnih načrtov je bil velik poudarek ravno na vključevanju lastnikov gozdov in drugih deležnikov v proces izdelave in sprejemanja načrtov. Formalno določeno participacijo smo nadgradili z aktivnejšim vključevanjem zainteresirane javnosti prek številnih predstavitev, delavnic, anket in sestankov. Rezultati participativnih aktivnosti so bili vgrajeni v osnutke območnih načrtov. Nadgradnja participativnega pristopa in vključevanje zainteresirane javnosti že v fazi priprave osnutkov območnih načrtov sta prispevala k večji usklajenosti gozdnogospodarskega in lovskoupravljavskega dela območnih načrtov, večji kakovosti in izvedljivosti načrtov ter usklajevanju ekonomskih, ekoloških in socialnih vidikov upravljanja z gozdnimi ekosistemi.
