1. Examining the complexity effect on shareholder information in SloveniaGregor Žvipelj, Roberto Biloslavo, 2026, original scientific article Abstract: This study investigates how managers communicate with shareholders, balancing impartiality and transparency against their vested interests. We examine management communication behaviour through the lens of information asymmetry in Slovenia, exploring how information overload and complexity in disclosures may influence shareholder decision making. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with top managers and a textual readability analysis of annual report letters to shareholders, we find that managers often introduce high levels of complexity in communications, sometimes deliberately, to safeguard their own interests. This observed ‘complexity effect’ provides new insight into information asymmetries in modern organizations, highlighting how excessive complexity can undermine transparent and effective shareholder communication. 3. Joint sustainability reports (JSRs) to promote the third mission of universitiesRoberto Biloslavo, Daniel Simon Schaebs, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: Higher Education Institutions (HEI) face increasing expectations to engage in sustainability reporting despite limited resources and heterogeneous practices. This study explores how Joint Sustainability Reports (JSR), built on the EU Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed SMEs (VSME), can serve as a cooperative and digitally supported framework to enhance transparency, comparability, and efficiency while strengthening universities’ third mission of societal engagement and knowledge transfer. Qualitative interviews with six sustainability experts from German and Austrian universities of applied sciences (UAS) highlight persistent challenges such as data gaps, staffing shortages, and weak strategic anchoring. The findings show that VSME-based JSRs, through shared data collection, centralised coordination, and modular reporting, enable resource and data pooling, standardised indicators, and cross-university synergies. By making social contributions more visible and credible, JSRs reinforce accountability and advance universities’ third mission in fostering community outreach and sustainable development Keywords: universities, higher education institutions (HEI), sustainability reporting, CSR, ESG, joint sustainability reports (JSRs) Published in DiRROS: 28.10.2025; Views: 475; Downloads: 303

4. Sustainable practices in hospitality : a case study of a Slovenian Michelin Green star restaurantRoberto Biloslavo, Nikolina Janković, 2025, original scientific article Abstract: As a major source of food and plastic waste and a large consumer of water and energy, the hospitality sector is key to combating climate change. Sustainable practices in the hospitality sector optimize food production and use, introduce innovative solutions and increase employee satisfaction in running environmentally friendly restaurants. This study examines the changes required for a restaurant to make a sustainable transition and the role of key stakeholders (i.e., chefs, head sommeliers, owners and main suppliers) in this process. It focuses on a prestigious Slovenian restaurant that has been awarded a Michelin Green Star and is 80% self-sufficient. The single case study uses semi-structured interviews, the critical incident method and participant observation to collect data. The results showed that in the case of the analyzed restaurant, the lifestyle of the owner/chef decisively shapes the culture of the restaurant, laying the foundation for its sustainable transformation. The success of the transformation itself, however, depends significantly on the employees’ ability to learn and innovate and their active involvement in the change process itself, which impacts both day-to-day business processes and relationships between stakeholders. The latter is reflected in the role the restaurant plays in the local environment as a driver for sustainable community and sustainable entrepreneurship development. 5. Conceptual framework of coaches’ decision-making in conventional sportsEdvard Kolar, Roberto Biloslavo, Rado Pišot, Saša Veličković, Matej Tušak, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: Introduction: A coach’s managerial and pedagogical tasks in the sports training process constitute the substantive core of their work, while decision-making serves as the fundamental method underpinning these tasks. Some decisions made by coaches result from deliberate, analytical thinking, which involves extensive information gathering, analysis, and discussion. Others, however, are made quickly and spontaneously, triggered by unforeseen situations during training or competition that demand immediate action. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to develop a conceptual framework for understanding coaches’ decision-making behavior in conventional sports. This framework aims to establish appropriate relationships between the various decisions coaches make during the training process and theoretical concepts related to decisionmaking, both in general and within the coaching context. Methods: To design the research, we used the methodology of a conceptual paper and a “model paper” approach, which seeks to build a theoretical framework that predicts relationships between distinct research concepts and scientific disciplines, aiming to integrate them into a cohesive model of coaches’ decision-making behavior. Results: The proposed conceptual framework encompasses a comprehensive range of situations that may arise during the sports training process and potential ways to address them. This framework identifies different types of decisions and characteristics associated with coaches’ decision-making behavior. It incorporates various sport-specific and general theories of decision-making and cognitive functioning to offer a deeper understanding of how coaches process and execute decisions in diverse contexts. Discussion: The developed conceptual framework outlines three primary types of decisions—strategic, tactical, and operational—each playing a distinct role in the broader sports training process. These decisions are based on different cognitive processes, which manifest in varied decision-making behaviors and are reinforced by specific leadership styles. The practical value of this framework lies in its potential application for selecting appropriate experts to address the diverse decision-making scenarios encountered in sports training. This ensures the alignment of decision-making styles with the requirements of specific training situations, thereby enhancing the effectiveness and outcomes of the coaching process. 6. The intergenerational succession of leadership in the family business : the change succession bringsBojan Dolar, Roberto Biloslavo, Erhan Aydin, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: This study focuses on leadership succession in family businesses, specifically examining the first-generation succession in six Slovenian manufacturing family enterprises. The authors introduce a novel perspective to studying this process by not limiting the analysis to the incumbent (IC) - successor (SR) dyad, but also integrating the family members’ view in the research design. By employing a qualitative approach (i.e. a comparative case study that predominantly relies on interviews with all three studied groups) the authors collect rich data on attitudes, perceptions and expectations about succession in family businesses. The research highlights the crucial role of leadership succession in ensuring the longevity and sustainability of family businesses, as effective leadership transitions are vital for maintaining business continuity, preserving family values, and fostering the intergenerational transfer of both knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit. While ICs typically possess a range of attitudes towards succession— from proactive to reluctant—SRs generally approach the process with optimism and caution, driven by their personal needs and expectations. The attitudes of both ICs and SRs are influenced by contextual factors and psychosocial dynamics, which significantly affect the succession's initiation, leadership, and relational dynamics within the family. 7. Strategic decisions : how good does it fit the decision-making process into the strategic management process?Edvard Kolar, Matej Tušak, Petra Robnik, Roberto Biloslavo, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: The complicated dance between the decision-making (hereinafter: DM) process, which is shaped by the individual psychological constructs and internal cognitive processes, and the methodological process of strategic management (hereinafter: SMP), which can be understood as a framework that defines decision context, raises pertinent questions about their coherence. The purpose of this study is to propose an integrative model of the strategic decision-making process (hereinafter: SDM), which links the cognitive processes of decision-makers with the rigour of strategic management and identifies and mitigates potential risks at each stage of the holistic process. To design the research, we used the "model paper" approach which seeks to build a theoretical framework that predicts relationships between research concepts. The developed comprehensive model connects four independent concepts, creating a holistic framework for SDM in organizations. The comprehensive model reveals a high degree of consistency between the SMP, knowable decision-making cycle and cognitive processes. Throughout the entire process, decision-makers need to be mindful of the interplay between System 1 and System 2 thinking. While System 1 thinking may provide quick insights and initiate creative thinking, it is important to complement it with the deliberate and analytical reasoning of System 2 thinking, which can be supported by a proper application of different strategic management tools and methods. 8. How to create a national sport strategy : a substantive and methodological perspectiveEdvard Kolar, Elnur E. Mammadov, Farid F. Gayibov, Mariana T. Vasileva, Roberto Biloslavo, Rado Pišot, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: Purpose: Due to its numerous positive effects on individuals and society as a whole, sport has become an important socio-economic subsystem of the national environment. To regulate, develop, and monitor the impact of sport at national, regional, and local levels, countries often develop and adopt various strategic documents, which can be found under the name of national program or strategy for sport development at the na-tional level. Due to the importance of understanding the substantial comprehensiveness of national sports strategies (NSS) and the precision of the methodological-processual approach, the purpose of the present paper is to present a methodological and sub-stantive view of the process of creating NSS and to develop a comprehensive concept (model) that appropriately places the substantive part in the phases of the process.Method: The methodology of writing conceptual research papers was used. This approach provides a bridge or link between different concepts and scientific discipli-nes. The methodological approach was the “model paper” which aims to provide a theoretical framework that predicts relationships between concepts. A model paper identifies connections between constructs and introduces new constructs.Findings: The development of the substantive model for the preparation of the NSS revealed that the comprehensive sport system at the national level can be understood within the framework of five substructures (financial, organizational, developmental, material, and program) that contribute significantly to the development and implemen-tation of activities related to sport and physical activity. They are interconnected and interdependent and are surrounded by a so-called integrity framework that protects the sport system from the deviations of modern society. The methodological process model reveals that for the implementation of the process of NSS preparation, the most appro-priate is the strategic management methodology, which enables accurate and efficient management of planning, organization, implementation, and control of the NSS. The combination of both perspectives (substantive and methodological) enables the deve-lopment of a comprehensive concept (model) of NSS preparation. Conclusions: The developed concept (model) of the NSS preparation comprehen-sively covers the issue of the NSS preparation management and is dialectical, open, flexible, and repeatable, enabling future users to manage the NSS preparation in a substantive-holistic and process-effective manner. 9. Technological advancements and organizational discrimination : the dual impact of industry 5.0 on migrant workersErhan Aydin, Mushfiqur Rahman, Çağri Bulut, Roberto Biloslavo, 2024, original scientific article Abstract: This study explores the impact of Industry 5.0 on discriminatory behaviors toward migrant
employees within organizations. Through semi-structured qualitative interviews with 15 migrant
workers in the UK, this research identifies key challenges faced by migrant employees amidst the
integration of advanced technologies like AI and robotics in HRM systems. Thematic analysis reveals
that while Industry 5.0 has the potential to mitigate human biases, it can also perpetuate existing
prejudices if not managed effectively. This study highlights two main themes: the experiences of
discrimination and challenges in the context of Industry 5.0, and the role of technology in HRM
systems. The findings indicate that automated HR systems can both reduce and increase biases,
highlighting the importance of inclusive practices and targeted support programs to help migrant
workers adapt to a technologically advanced labor market. This research contributes to the literature
by providing insights into the duality of technological advancements in reducing and reinforcing
workplace discrimination. Keywords: Industry 5.0, migrant workers, organizational discrimination, human resource management, technological advancements Published in DiRROS: 30.09.2024; Views: 966; Downloads: 693
