Makroekonomski učinki proizvodnje in predelave lesa listavcev
Domen Arnič, Peter Prislan, Luka Juvančič, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: As far as the utilization of the value-added potential of hardwood assortments is concerned, we have considerable reserves in Slovenia. These could be exploited mainly by increasing the economic use of roundwood in Slovenia and by developing more technologically advanced processing methods for roundwood. The aim of this paper is to assess the untapped potential of the forest-wood chain in Slovenia using input-output models, focusing on the use of hardwood. For the whole forest-wood chain, we assessed the existing situation and tested five scenarios for the improvement of the forest-wood chain in Slovenia. We developed a national input-output model to evaluate possible scenarios for the future development of the wood-based bioeconomy. The results of scenario analysis of the input-output model show that the Slovenian wood-based bioeconomy can achieve up to 20% higher production value, a 24% increase in employment and 19% increase in household income in the future through restructuring of economic activities. In the paper, we discuss how upgrading the forestry and wood-processing industry (according to the defined scenarios) could be achieved by increasing the processing capacity of hardwoods and provide recommendations for decision makers.

Latent preferences of residents regarding an urban forest recreation setting in Ljubljana, Slovenia
Anže Japelj, Robert Mavsar, Donald G. Hodges, Marko Kovač, Luka Juvančič, 2016, original scientific article

Abstract: The goal of this study is to assess residents' preferences for a set of attributes describing the recreation setting in an urban forest (outstanding trees, forest openings, waymarks and information boards, and paved walking trails) and to explore the heterogeneity of those preferences. It was captured by a four-class latent class model used to segment a sample of residents of Ljubljana (the capital of Slovenia), who responded to a choice experiment-based poll. The survey focused on the Rožnik urban forest, for which preferences (also willingness-to-pay) for hypothetical changes in the attributes were assessed. Respondents in class 1 were invariant to changes in the recreation setting. Those in class 2 and 4 stated positive preferences for having more outstanding trees. Class 3 and 4 were in favour of increasing the area of forest openings and enhancing the maintenance of waymarks and information boards. Those in class 4 expressed positive preferences for more walking trails, whereas class 3 valued this negatively. Class membership was affected by respondent age, number of adults in the household, frequency of forest visits, income, and purpose of the visit.

Raba lesa v slovenskem biogospodarstvu
Domen Arnič, Peter Prislan, Luka Juvančič, 2019, original scientific article

Abstract: Krčenje zalog fosilnih goriv, netrajnostno izkoriščanje naravnih virov in podnebne spremembe so dejavniki, ki pospešujejo prehod v biogospodarstvo. Tovrsten prehod omogočajo tehnologije in novo znanje pretvorbe biomase v različne produkte, med seboj povezane v kaskadnih in (energetsko in snovno) krožnih proizvodnih ciklih.
