Fostering inclusivity and cultural connection through students as trainers in their own language, culture, and identity : an introductory study
Irina Moira Cavaion, 2026, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph

Abstract: This chapter presents an introductory study aimed at engaging minority students to assume the roles of informants, narrators, and mediators, conveying linguistic, cultural, and identity aspects of their community to mainstream lower secondary school pupils and teachers. Additionally, the project seeks to collaboratively develop content and methodologies that would bring the minority language closer to majority-language children, viewed through the perspective of young people.

Priročnik interdisciplinarne didaktike jezikov v stiku : teoretični okvir
Irina Moira Cavaion, Maja Vrčon, 2026, dictionary, encyclopaedia, lexicon, manual, atlas, map

Abstract: Priročnik predstavlja nadaljevanje prvega zvezka Didaktike jezikov v stiku (Cavaion, 2019) in uvaja interdisciplinarni pristop, ki povezuje pouk jezikov z zgodovino, geografijo, umetnostjo in aktivnim državljanstvom. Spletni del omogoča dopolnjevanje in bogatenje gradiva z novimi izkušnjami šol.

D4.1 - Citizen Science Playbook
Shé Mackenzie Hawke, Francesco Pilla, Irina Moira Cavaion, Cécil J. W. Meulenberg, 2025, final research report

Abstract: The aimof this documentisto presentthe Engagement Strategy (ES)fortheCoastalCity Living Lab (CCLL) and citizen science activities thatwas developedwithin WP4 (Task 4.1). Theseactivitieswere guided by theimpetus of the Paris Agreement and by our Standard Ethical Protocol(SEP), defining theprivacy, principles and practice forparticipatory engagement from citizens and other actors. This report also provides Learning Modules developed by WP4 to give CCLL participants the opportunity to gain knowledge on climate adaptation and the SCORE project approaches through description of basic knowledge and the key terminology used (provided as a glossary). The report further provides an overview ofwebsitelinks, videos, webinars and courses with brief descriptions of variousresources and tools to educate and instruct further how to set-up citizen science activities for climate-focused CCLLs. The document’s whole content is dictated to empower CCLL stakeholders through transfer of basic knowledge on climate change concepts as highlighted by the SCORE project. Therefore the Engagement Strategy and the Learning Modules detailthe useof CCLLs, citizen science, do-it-yourself (DIY)sensortechnology, and participatory co-creation and co-design activities, as well asthe EBA approach. It guides howto engage and motivatestakeholders and citizen scientist participants using tools and resourses in the CCLL context, by activities executed in a series of capacity building workshops, co-creation workshops, and citizen science and DIY sensor familiarisation workshops. Familiarisation to principal climate change knowledgeis needed to direct, engage andmotivateparticipants. Coastal flooding and erosion, extreme weather events and associated changesin precipitation, are themoststriking aspects of climate change related to coastal cities, alongwith ocean rise in volumeand temperature. SCOREaddressed those issues alongwith their impacts, and included thosechallenges within its framework according to each CCLL primary challenges. The engagement task provided this background information, with the learning modules and tools documented in this report addressing these issues in a more comprehensive fashion. Participatory engagement is a vital aspect of any Living Lab project. SCORE applied an inclusive participatory engagement methodology, that involved the recruitment of a range of voluntary participants or citizen scientists, primarily adults, who come from a variety of classes, gender, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, as well as from industry and business, academia, general public and governance. Participants were recruited through public surveys, social media platforms and standardmulti-media platformssuch as notice boards and newspapers, as well as through community networks and publicmeetings, and participated in a series of ‘howto’ CCLL capacity building and co-creation workshops, as well as citizen science and DIY sensor familiarisation workshops throughout the project. As this document will be publicly available after the completion of the project, its orderly representation of the project illustrating consistentinteraction with project partners and with external CCLL stakeholders, will be a guide on how to engage stakeholders in citizen science initiatives and can build a CCLL with a climate adaptation focus.

Ribiške zgodbe v šoli : priročnik za učitelje tretje triade osnovnih šol
Lucija Čok, Tina Čok, Urška Bratož, Irina Moira Cavaion, Anna Maria Grego, 2023, dictionary, encyclopaedia, lexicon, manual, atlas, map

Abstract: Priročnik Ribiške zgodbe v šoli je namenjen predvsem osnovnošolskim učiteljicam in učiteljem tretje triade, ki bi želeli dopolniti, razširiti in poglobiti vsebine, predvidene v okviru nekaterih obveznih in izbirnih predmetov (etnologija – kulturna dediščina in načini življenja, zgodovina – odkrivajmo preteklost svojega kraja, geografija – raziskovanje domačega kraja (šolskega okoliša) in varstvo njegovega okolja, pa tudi slovenščina in italijanščina …).

Understanding interdisciplinarity through Adriatic maricultures and climate change adaptation : Elektronski vir
Cécil J. W. Meulenberg, Shé Mackenzie Hawke, Irina Moira Cavaion, Peter Kumer, Blaž Lenarčič, 2022, original scientific article

Abstract: The consequences of accelerating climate change for land and sea biodiversity require innovative approaches to research. Interdisciplinary re-search serves to connect natural science, socialsciences and humanities, tech-nology, and engineering, as well as welcoming citizen scientists into the re-search environment. Interdisciplinarity is part of a developing innovative ap-proach to research that emphasizes co-evolution of traditional sciences, with citizen science and participatory engagement in the realisation of research goals and the promotion of climate change mitigation strategies. In this article, through the example of shellfish maricultures we illustrate interdisciplinarity, particularlydemonstrating how marine biology, health and well-being, social science and cultural geography come together at the interface between nature, culture, and climate change mitigation strategies.
